I'm thinking about the 55" x900e as the OLEDs are too pricey (in Canada anyway) and the vizio in 55" is IPS, but I'm concerned the android tv app sucks (and the usual sucky sony physical remote).

I can't speak for Sony's particular implemention, but AndroidTV is arguably the best streaming platform on the market right now. Roku has it edged out a little in app support, but AndroidTV largely makes it back in casting support and the apps that are native don't have a UI out of 2003 like Roku.

AndroidTV on the d models is passable but often sluggish. And in true Android OEM style expect to get updates a year later if ever.

Although tbh if the APpleTV supported 4k i'd never touch it again. It's stupid that apple doesn't support 4k still.

Looking at picking up a 4k Blu-ray player, which is the best one to pick up right now that supports or will be updated to support Dolby Vision? I was looking at the Sony UBP-X800 but apparently that isn't going to support it?

I think right now, the only two choices are the two Oppos (UDP-203 and UDP-205 ) and the LG UP970. I think more were announced, but I don't know if any are out yet.

Hey guys my Xbox one is causing my tv to flicker like crazy so I'm guessing it's the cables but I can't tell what cables to buy on Amazon to support 4K. The ones I have are the Amazon basics one but it's not working I guess...what should I buy? . This is a new problem too, it worked fine a week ago E;actually I had it connected with my Xbox one cable odd. Wonder if it's my tv fuckin ugh

# ? Jul 8, 2017 20:47 |

It’s usually something funky with the cables. I’ve always had good luck using the shortest amazonbasics cable possible.

Yeah I don't understand why cables are so finicky. This will be the second time a cable has failed me for four k in a month lol

Some of mine worked for a while but I gradually had to replace them all. Now that I have all newer cables my only problem is the lovely 4K support on my receiver; I occasionally have to power cycle it when it gets confused and won’t accept 4K.

Seems very cut and dry but if I buy a mount on amazon that says up to 65" and VESA 400 but its a 70" TV I'm looking at thats well within the weight restriction and is still VESA 400 it will be okay right?

When we bought our new house, one of the selling points was the previous owners ran cabling from the living room to the outside under a hard deck. All looks good and ready for me to mount a cheap tv like they did (they had a really old Visio out here, nothing special and certainly not an all weather tv despite the fact right now it's 11pm, 81 degrees and 80% humidity here in South Florida so gently caress paying $2k for something specialist). Anyway, other than my worry that the speaker cable might be cut and I have no way of telling right now... does this look like a standard place to mount to you guys? I've always used stands and there's no real indications this actually had something screwed to it if I didn't see it with my own eyes. So here's the current situation... I presume they just had a vesa mount drilled into the wood frames that are sticking out? Reference photo of how it looked before. EL BROMANCE fucked around with this message at 04:21 on Jul 9, 2017 |

The boards on the wall could have been part of a French cleat. You'll need to make matching boards and screw them to plywood and mount the TV to that if they are.

I would think so, I mean my 2010 tv is heavy as all gently caress compared to the couple models I've helped to hang in the past year, so I dunno why they even list dimensional limits anymore. The weight is far more important than the screen size.

Early LG B6P trip report. Picked up a 55" floor model for $2400 CDN. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever looked at, despite not having viewed any 4K content yet (TV and internet services are being hooked up next week). I've watched Mad Max Fury Road twice because of how glorious every moment is. I've been using it as a monitor and have had zero burn issues. Lag is...noticeable. Next week I'll get Rocket League and Street Fighter up and running and we'll see how bad that is. But overall: wowowweewow

How much am I gonna be missing out of HDR content if I get a tv with HDR 10 but not Dolby Vision, LG UJ635V to be exact? Anything with Dolby Vision on it is out of my budget right now. TV would be mostly used to watch Netflix, HBO and regular TV broadcasts on Full HD, maybe some Blu-Ray movies every now and then.

All UHD discs (which you would need to buy a new player for anyway) seem to be coming with both formats. So really you’ll just be missing out on what is considered a better standard. Also, don’t forget to upgrade your Netflix sub for 4K.

Bill Barber posted:wtf does any of this mean? When ultraHD first launched on netflix the 2 tv plan supported it for $7.99. Then they moved it to be exclusive to the 4 tv plan but anyone who used ultrahd during the original period got to keep it with their cheaper 2 tv plan. I was wondering if anyone knew if you also got HDR with this as well and if netflix had plans to remove ultrahd access for people with the cheaper plan in the future.

Early adopters of 4K technology who currently are Netflix members were grandfathered indefinitely under their existing price plan." You had to watch something in 4k before a cutoff in august 2014 i think. Which i had a vizio p series for a bit.

I'm looking at getting one of these cheap 50-55" 4k sets for the bedroom to be used /w DirecTV and Plex. The E series Vizio's have decent-ish reviews and come with a built in Chromecast target. My question is, are the new E series Vizio's capable of using the built-in Chromecast for 4k content, or is there some concerns there? I can't find information on how the target advertists, what WiFi connectivity it really has, etc. Most information I search for is about the built-in Plex client, which I'm sure is nifty, but I'd rather have a Chromecast target and keep using it like I do my current TV, just with more dots. EDIT: Or would I be better served by getting the Samsung at the same price or a smidge cheaper and just buying a Chromecast Ultra? FunOne fucked around with this message at 17:04 on Jul 11, 2017 |
