The big joke about Dougie is that nobody realizes he is completely retarded, people think he is just a little off, in spite of it being quite obvious to us the audience. How can people be so lacking of any sense of humor as to see RAPE on that scene, Jesus

I though it wanst the best episode, probably one of the worst. Still good. A bit too slow, a lot of scenes seemed too long, and Im finally getting tired of Dougie too, although the sex scene was funny. I was so expecting Audrey to finally show up on that scene with Jonny and Sylvia, that got me a little disappointed too. The song at the end was kinda bad

Now is a matter of time before someone at the FBI sees "Dougie" on TV, right? I hope so. And I dont think Diane is working for Bad Coop, probably she is working with Phillip Jeffries, the real one or whoever uses that name now

Whatever is going on with the drug trade in the new Twin Peaks, it's a hell of a lot worse than anything 25 years ago, as evidenced by Shelley's son-in-law, Richard, and those two girls with the bad teeth. It seems like the drug issues in Twin Peaks were bad before, but the effects this time around seem to go to a new level.

I think we can all agree that you should definitely not rape mentally handicapped people

But, you know, it really opens up some grey areas on consent when you bring magic into it

You also have to remember that everyone seems to treat Dougie like he's an adult even when he's clearly acting like a toddler.

Dale Cooper had sex with Janey under false pretenses. If anything, he's the criminal.

But he isn't an adult. Nobody's actually criticising Janey's actions in the scene haha as it does stick to the same thing of nobody getting that he's a babyman but the scene overall does have some mildly weird undertones especially when it's just played for comedy like LOL he can't even form a conscious thought but here he is getting ridden

I also actually agree that the snuggling up and "I love you" is more worrying to me because of how Janey's falling for a dude who doesn't have a clue who or what she or anything is. I saw a review talking about how cute it is to see them fall in love and I was like WHAT

It's going to be devastating when/if Coop wakes up and has no idea who she is. :(

Well, Coop seems to be in there, just pushed to the back without being able to do anything consciously, so I'm of the opinion that he'll remember everything when he wakes up. I could see him ultimately getting with Janey-E and adopting Sonny Jim after seeing how well they took care of him.

That is, if they aren't killed off in a horrible hit gone wrong... :(

Dougie literally is unable to give consent so it is literally categorically rape. What that means towards your opinion of the show is up to you, but saying it's not rape because it was played for comedy is idiotic.

I wasn't a fan of that scene, though Dougie's arms did get me pretty good.

TAKE ANOTHER LOOK, SONNY. IT'S GONNA HAPPEN AGAIN!

I think it's just sad because the real Coop struggled with the loss of his lover so much. He finally opened up to Annie, and almost immediately lost her again. There is no way he would have consented.

Also, having sex with Coop is basically a death sentence at this point. Janey is as good as dead, people. :tinfoil:

I am glad we are discussing the key points of this fictional television show here, like whether it qualifies as rape if you can't consent because your soul is split between reality and an alternate dimension and a copy of you, possessed by a killer demon, is preventing you from returning to this world.

I wonder what Janey's life was like that she ended up marrying Dougie in the first place. Pressured to get married by her family/peers, sees Dougie single at a party, decides "well this is how you adult right?" and goes for it? She's such a sad character. I think her wanting to have sex with him so bad really shows how pathetic it is that Dougie getting replaced by mentally handicapped Coop is the best thing that's happened to her in life.

Thing is Doobage went completely cyberninja when that hosed up dwarf got up in his poo poo, so I think he has at least some semblance of consent. Although thinking about it he did have the electric tree dude as a cheerleader for that, so maybe the scene would have been better if the Evolution of the Arm popped up out of the bedsheets near the end screaming "Aiiiiiiimmm fooooorrr herrrrrrrr tiiiiiiiiitttttz!"

I feel like some people are paying too much attention to how much less Cooper is able to exert himself through the dougie-construct-body, and not enough to the ways he's actually exerted himself thus far. back on the very first day after he entered or became dougie, when the hobo lady came up to Coop at the Silver Mustang he was already able to both understand what she was asking him, and point her towards what she wanted--the next jackpot. He doesn't just repeat any old thing someone says in front him, it's more like he's lost the use of normal vocabulary and can only articulate what other people give him now. if he wasn't on board with what happened between him and janey last ep, he probably wouldn't have been grinning like that under her, but he most definitely wouldn't have returned her 'love you,' same as he kept saying 'call for help' to a succession of casino employees instead of just parroting whatever he heard last. his vocalizations aren't just an unthinking cipher, he's picking and using the pieces of language he finds. 'love you' probably wasn't exactly how he wanted to express himself to janey, but if it wasn't aligned in some way with how he wanted to express himself he probably would've just stayed quiet, which would've been a far sadder and crueler scene than what we got, and lend a lot of credence to the non-consent theory.

While there are some moments in which Dougie acts like he knows what he's doing, sometimes he doesn't even know how to sit down. Similarly, I doubt Cooper would have had sex with Janey if he was his usual self. There is really no way to reconcile this, in my mind. It's just inconsistent from moment to moment.

To me it feels like his moments of awareness are based on whether or not it's something the real Cooper would do. Taking down Ike like a huge badass to defend himself and Janey-E is something real Coop would have done without thinking, and so Dougie does it without thinking. The real Cooper would instinctively figure out the shady dealings at the insurance company and that manifests as Dougie figuring it out with his random scribblings. The real Cooper frickin loved coffee, so when Dougie has coffee he feels sedate and satisfied. Conversely, Cooper never had a wife or a son or a life like the one Dougie had, so when confronted with it he's just a zombie that reacts to the world around him with complete neutrality. But that's just my own personal theory.
