The starting assault rifle is enough to break the bloody game, especially on PC with a mouse.

Honestly I really do like TD games and very forgiving with even mediocre ones. And I think this game has a lot of promise but the Unity jank and and poor lack of polish and explaination of well, anything, takes this game into unplayable territory imo. Literally the text is way too big and all the pop-ups or notes get cut off halfway through when there is anything, the entire upgrade and chip system makes no god drat sense. I literally got a chip that says "Rarity Lvl1" with a little yellow circle that has +0.1 number at the bottom corner, literally no text or anything else on it. Ok, great, what the gently caress is that supposed to do? Ok I guess I can drag it onto a tower thing, but now its locked in and can't remove it and now I've upgraded a tower with a little but it doesn't say anything about it??? What the gently caress do any of these upgrades do? It seems to start off introducing mechanics but then just throws the whole kitchen sink and was just overwhelming. Not to mention the scrolling was horrible and you can't use mouse look to move around and if you place any towers in the bottom of your screen, you get that lovely janky bare-bones HUD pop up bar which prevents you from really clicking them. It's like the dev had some elaborately good ideas in their heads on making things that all made perfect sense to them, but then completely forgot that everyone playing this is not them and didn't include much in how to teach this to players in any meaningful way (and mostly not even at all) Xaris fucked around with this message at 23:38 on Aug 19, 2017 |

So as an owner of the very excellent Slayaway Camp, I got a coupon for SPACE TYRANT, which I investigated and picked up. It's... goodish. Simplistic so far, but good. It's RTS/ABS stuff that doesn't have too much to show for itself, there's a neat "your whole fleet shares 1 power bar, you can fire off stuff based on how much power you have overall, and smaller effects use less power" mechanic, but the real draw is the exploration and flavor. You get trading cards that you can use turn-to-turn, with the cards being paid for by crystals, which you get from conquering crystal worlds. Shipyards need gold, gotten from conquering gold worlds, etc. The whole thing is pretty charmingly animated, and I enjoy the reversal of play that has you enslaving and dominating every world you come across (even if, mechanically, it's the same as liberating them). VERY light RPG elements (when you conquer a planet, it often gives you two choices in the vein of "There's a pacifist religion on this planet that will not take up arms and fight for us. What shall we do? (1) Tax them into debtor's prison (2) Enslave them (3) Ignore them" with funny options for each. I feel like if this feature list makes you SALTS (smile a little, then stop), you will like SPACE TYRANT quote:Features Shrecknet fucked around with this message at 02:56 on Aug 20, 2017 |

Oh god, why did I buy 20XX? Procedural roguelike megaman game should have clued me in right away so I only have myself to blame. Nothing is balanced. I consistently get tons of damage powerups to the point where I can one shot every enemy then run into bosses that take ages to whittle down. I have so much money at all times that I can empty all shops and vending machines no problem, causing me to stack up on dozens and dozens of upgrades. That's IF the level generator doesn't gently caress me and create a level that is either literally impossible to complete (a jump that can't be made) or spawning platforms and enemies in such a way that I'm forced into taking damage so much that unless I get enough hp upgrades to tank I just have to concede the level. Also there are bullet hell bosses in a game where your hitbox is absolutely not designed for dodging bullets.

Yeah, the question of how often do you load a save more than four or five saves back is a pretty reasonable question, and I assume most of the time, or even all of the time, the answer is never. That turning into well let's have one autosave managed entirely by the game is a gigantic leap and almost completely irrelevant.

Looks pretty good, I think I might give it a go despite being early-access still, just wondering if anyone else has any insight into it. This is really fun game. It is what you want to make it though. It's not as much fun solo but jumping in with the goon group has been a blast. So go ahead and jump into Road gently caress Squad and make the enemies cry.

Furious Angels has gone from a strafing run game of pick apart the bits of cap ships to a twin stick like thing. I want a button that autoshoots directly ahead, but the new and a lot deeper arsenal you can get it very cool. You get a hovertank with both a chewy shotgun and a laser.

A concerning trend for single-player games in 2017: bad sales Steamspy numbers: Dishonored 2 853k (compared to 3.2m for the first game) Nier Automata 514k Outlast 2 191k (compared to 1.7m for the original) Prey 376k Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 108k (compared to 1m each for first two games) Vanquish port 84k The Surge 72k Styx 2 48k (compared to 513k for the original game) Rime 28k Bulletstorm remaster 20k (compared to 378k for original game which itself was a flop) On the smaller studio side: Little Nightmares 116k Yooka-Laylee 90k Edith finch 71k Sexy Brutale 31k Nex Machina 19k Strafe 18k Signal from Tolva 9k Get Even 9k Now, some of the indie games were never going to get GREAT sales. Edith Finch's numbers are probably about what you would expect for a walking sim. But a lot of these games are just flat out bombs. The Surge selling less than a port of a way old xbox 360 game. Rime, in development for years, releases to a tepid response. Prey of course tanking right out of the gate (partly due to Bethesda neither marketing or giving out review copies). Nex Machina doing badly makes me sad. At the very least for Platinum, 500k is good for a Japanese developer, and combined with console games, has salvaged their fate after the cancellation of Scalebound. Dishonored 2 at least will sell over a million lifetime and got an expansion DLC. But man these are some bad bad numbers in general. I hope our future isn't endless MOBAs, card games, and multiplayer survival games that last about 3 weeks before the community bails, over and over again. Wolfenstein 2 save us!!!!

They're not going to care too much if they're multiplatform and do well overall. Just a matter of work put into PC version being profitable with sales versus costs, right? Also, you can only compare numbers within the same timeframe. Don't compare game sales with games that have been out 4 months with games that have been out for 4 years.

Quest For Glory II posted:A concerning trend for single-player games in 2017: bad sales A lot of these can be chalked up to the game being marred by being rushed out the door into technical issues or bad marketing. Obviously publishers are bad at seeing these reasons because it's their fault and not the devs'. Especially the Arkane games suffered from this. But publishers are basically cargo cults, like movie producers, who see the trends they want to see. "See? SP games sell poorly and we can't even properly nickle-and-dime them with microtransactions! Everything's now a CCG!" Sexy Brutale is depressing though, given how excellent it is. Sniper GW3 is supposed to be trash and it outselling a decent sci-fi soulsalike is unfortunate. But Bulletstorm remaster landing like a wet fart is exactly what Gearbox deserved for pricing it like a new AAA game.

Rime was borderline vaporware and a weak Team Ico imitator. Et cetera.
