I wish Alien Isolation had an auto difficulty that went up or down depending on how you were doing because it was hard for me to find the right balance between "this alien is real dumb" and "I took a step and now he's skullfucking my corpse."

Alien: Isolation goes dirt cheap like every other week as it is. It is good, though.

EOIV is off the hook good. if you really really really have a burning desire to play a game like this, then it might be worth it just to buy the cheapest model 2/3 DS you can get and get the last few Etrian Odysseys. new one coming out soon, too.

RBA Starblade posted:Is ESO worth ten bucks if you're a fan of the series or not really? Oh definitely. It's totally playable in singleplayer ( I'd argue it's now being developed for singleplayer ), and has a lot of the same writing style/setup as Morrowind. It's a game made for TES fans, specifically the ones that really liked Morrowind. It's also got a lot of the stuff you love from TES in general. Lot of exploration, finding cool loot, doing cool stuff, side quests, etc etc. Just realize the starting island for your faction is not super representative of the rest of the game. They tend to be a bit more focused, with extremely short dungeons. Once you get to the mainland things start picking up.

RBA Starblade posted:Is ESO worth ten bucks if you're a fan of the series or not really? ESO is a perfectly good TES game if you ignore all the MMO parts. It has more interesting and enjoyable questing than most proc gen Skyrim quests by a mile. Especially since Morrowind turned out pretty good.

But you can cheat back by disabling the Alien in Isolation, just for dumb parts like that or the whole game if you'd prefer a more relaxed System Shocky gameplay. There is still the android dudes. Hexedit this \SteamApps\common\Alien Isolation\DATA\CHR_INFO\ATTRIBUTES\ to ALIEN.BML like this: "At the end of the file there is a line that sets the alien behaviour with "alien_behave" and replace it with "NoBehaviour" so the alien still is there in some vent but doesn't make anything. It is frozen." It's interesting to see how it gets teleported around by scripts and stuff.

RBA Starblade posted:Is ESO worth ten bucks if you're a fan of the series or not really? yeah, it's got a lot of cool elder scrolls stuff and the DREADED LEVEL SCALING they added means you don't have to tediously grind a bunch of bad mmo quests and can just do the cool ones that seem interesting. you get to visit daedric realms, and not just boring ones like in Oblivion either. For example there's a sidequest where you can hang out in a daedric forest of talking crows and do stuff for them, and if you do they give you crow citzenship and a whistle you can call to have crows come and hang out with you cause you're their buddy.

There is some of that in how the AI director decides the alien's macro behaviour, and if you read up on what the director uses to measure “stress” you can somewhat manipulate that behaviour. It doesn't make a huge amount of difference the way it does in, say, L4D, but that's more because the microbehaviour is that much more complex than the run-at-player-and-punch the zombies had.
