Proceed in a str8 line shaped like a perpetually shifting torus knot until you feel a sense of despair transcending all mortal comprehension, then hang a right at the next octopus, she'll be in the first room on the left
I'm looking for some Violent music.

Long story short, I'm compiling a number of playlists to use as mood music in tabletop RPG campaigns. One of these playlists is literally named OH poo poo, and is reserved for moments when things go horribly, unexpectedly wrong.

Did the summoner complete the ritual and bring forth the Harbinger of Doom into our plane? OH poo poo.
Is the party being chased by a monster it has zero chance of defeating? OH poo poo.
Did a situation the party thought they were in control of suddenly go tits up? OH poo poo.

I'm specifically looking for music with a desperate, violent tone. Nothing else matters; not instrumentation, genre, artist; nothing matters so long as I feel it strikes the tone of desperate violence I'm looking for.

Out of the whole playlist (as I've assembled it thus far) there are two tracks which I feel best capture what I'm looking for:

Attack on Titan: Female Titan Theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqfqJPckors

Father Gascoigne, the Hunter
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA614N3IHD4

I want music that really conveys the sense that poo poo has hit the fan, and that the party is in either a "Win or Die" or "Run or Die" scenario. Thanks in advance for any contributions!

Not sure if you're still checking your post, but something came on my shuffle today that made me think of this. You may want to check out some of the African funk that was coming out of places like Nigeria and Zambia in the 70s. There are a few good compilations of this stuff.

Some random things -

There's a decent book by Richie Unterberger called Unknown Legends of Rock and Roll. It may be worth a read if you're interested in the topic. It also comes with a great CD (at least it did when I bought it some 15 years ago). This was the standout track for me - John's Children: Smashed Blocked (of interest - John's Children briefly had Marc Bolan of T-Rex as a member).

You're really looking for more Jazz-Funk rather than Fusion. The list you've got already is awesome, but some other greats of that genre would be:

Herbie Hancock post-Mwandishi period when he got together The Headhunters is a classic. Head Hunters, Thrust, Man-Child and Secrets are a definite pick up. Plus The Headhunters as a band themselves had a couple great albums out on Arista, namely Survival of the Fittest and Straight from the Gate.

Idris Muhammad, who had a great run of albums on CTI offshoot Kudu throughout the 70s. Check out the albums Power of Soul, House of the Rising Sun, Turn This Mutha Out and Boogie to the Top.

Don't forget The Blackbyrds, grab their self-titled, Flying Start and City Life.

Roy Ayers has been about since the 60s, but really hit his stride with his Ubiquity stuff. Grab the incredible, Mystic Voyage, Everybody Loves the Sunshine and Lifeline

Make sure you grab George Duke's A Brazilian Love Affair as well if you like Azymuth (who just had a great new album out last year and I think are recording a new one at the moment).

Honestly I could reel off a hundred other names, but I suggest if you really want to go digging it might be worth your while picking up some compilations and using that as a starting point. The old Classic Jazz-Funk Mastercuts are all worth picking up. Well the first 3-4 that were compiled by Ian Dewhirst. Harmless also put out a nice little comp called In The Pocket - 70s Jazz-Funk which is also really nice with some nice tune selection. Covers a lot of what's been already raised, but still worth picking up and it was pretty cheap too!

As for more modern stuff there's been a bit of a resurgence in recent years, at least I think so. Most of these artists only have an album or two to their names but they're ones to watch. So try The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble who've had two albums out on Colemine Records, a self-titled and my favourite Out on the Coast.

Marquis Hill has his debut The Way We Play out on Concord and so worth picking up.

Japanese trumpeter Takuya Kuroda has two great albums out Rising Son and Zigzagger out on Blue Note and Concord respectively.

Wil Blades had an album called Field Notes out a few years ago that's well worth picking up too.

They're a couple of artists on the great Bastard Jazz label that've been kicking it recently. Might not be exactly what you want as it all generally moves more into that modern NuJazz/Broken Beat era, but check out the albums Cookin' Gumbo and Esperanto Slang by Captain Planet which has a lot of cool, funky Latin inspired rhythms. Lord Echo had a great album called Curiosities out on BJ a few years ago, his latest out on Soundways is also great.

Finally Resolution 88 are a great London-based band with two great little albums behind their name. The first self-titled and the second came out like just last year called 'Afterglow'. Well worth picking up.

Sorry with the big speil there but hopefully you'll get something you like with that.

I don't really know why Dün are considered zeuhl and not RIO but apparently they're considered zeuhl, I'm guessing it was more of a scene thing, maybe they had musicians in the band who were mostly known for their work in zeuhl? Other than that the way bands use vocals I think is pretty central to separating zeuhl from other forms of avant-prog.

Anyways, Time of Orchids were a little shouty for me, love Zu, don't know the others (except the RIO bands), will listen

iirc Dun had dudes from Magma? Zeuhl is basically just Magma, bands that had people from Magma in them, and later bands that were deliberately trying to sound like Magma. Anyway a cool lesser known Band is Yeti from the US, the first album and the demo CDR are both good. I've not heard the second album but some people reckon it's more doom metal influenced or something so I don't know if it's any good.

e: oh you should also check out Shub Niggurath who were one of the coolest bands out of that French zeuhl scene, they're much more gloomy and darker than most of the Magma stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8e9nBOKub0

a label to look at also is Soleil Zeuhl who do reissues of all these Magma offshoots plus newer bands playing similar stuff.

I'm looking for laid-back moody, atmospheric acoustic folk in the vein of Panopticon's Tamarack's Gold Returns (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxCLgSJmhgw ). It's nowhere near metal, but I'd look into Steeleye Span if you haven't already. They were one of the stalwarts of the 70s English folk revival alongside Fairport Convention, but they often had a harder edge to them. Some of their tracks are quite heavy and dramatic in a way that reminds me of metal, even if the sound isn't strictly similar.

King Henry is a good example. That massive bass is typical of their sound at the time. Their best album in my opinion is Below the Salt; other particularly good ones are Please to See the King and Parcel of Rogues.

A few more:

Female Drummer
Jigs: The Bride's Favourite / Tansey's Fancy
The Weaver and the Factory Maid

Also the ultimate foot-tapping fiddle track is probably Fairport's Lark in the Morning medley. Liege & Lief is kind of a must-have album for anyone who likes this stuff.
