Indeed, that's why I have Chris in hiding in #5. He'd be living it up in some non-extradition country in this particular scenario.

Of course the particular company I linked (which was founded less than 2 weeks ago) could simply be for the purposes of a well known tax dodge where the parent company transfers all rights to a new company which in turn charges the parent company for each use of said rights.

Who knows for sure?

Honestly I doubt it, if only for the sake of "why would he bother with living with a warrant on his head if he can just walk away with whatever cash he's got left". If he's already trying to get external funding and it doesn't show up before the collapse, he'll know there's no point in trying to continue the project unless he wants to put his own retirement fund into it.

When it dies he'll just blame derek for being derek and his cultists for not being supportive enough, at which point all the ones who are left will devour each other in a massive self-consuming frenzy of which among them didn't believe hard enough. Then he'll molyneux off into the grey havens and everyone who still bought into the dream until the bitter end will cry themselves to sleep over what could have been.

It still baffles me how much time and effort Citizens spend dreaming about the most mundane poo poo like dress code enforcement in a game that doesn't even have the most basic play mechanics set.

As mentioned in ATV, they want to make it so you aren't just running around with your helmet on all the time. To make it expensive or otherwise desirable NOT to be wearing it 24/7 to create interesting moments when you are running to suit up.
Thoughts?
Imo, few potential ideas:
Helmets cut off peripheral vision (We've already seen this on a few)
Helmets emit signature via electronics (easier for others to spot with helmet on?)
Sound is simulated with helmets on (Thus hearing pewpew in space) and I imagine some forms of tech could screw with that function. Either blasting the unfortunate person with white-noise or making the other person effectively silent. Suppressors via hacking for instance.
Likewise with hacking and helmet hud's, someone could blackout your view or spam a bunch of crap onto it.
As noted, expensive due to Oxygen, Wear and energy costs. Save on battery, maintenance and oxygen by not wearing it.

In the first hour or so you have to manually go and grab a load of cargo in zero G and place it by hand into its correct place, then go tend to some plants and then gently caress around with some dials to make the atmosphere liveable for the plant-life, then go and repair a comm array by hand and explore a mining facility lol

Yeah, similarly in UK law this would also be likely seen as fraud. Further, the money transferred into the shell company would almost certainly be considered a 'transaction at an undervalue' and be reversible by a liquidator/administrator. I'm certain the US would have similar laws for such blatant attempts to defraud creditors.

That said, that company you linked to on CH does seem to lend credence to the theory that Crobberts was trying to sell tech/rights/whatever at Gamescom; after all, if you're going to get into the IP business, it doesn't hurt to create a new company devoted to that business, right?

Eurogamer: Chris Roberts "a bit too ambitious"

Wing Commander designer talks about his departure from Digital Anvil as the company is bought out by Microsoft posted:

In the wake of the collapse of Digital Anvil, co-founder and soon-to-be-former CEO Chris Roberts has spoken about his decision to leave the company he founded just four years ago. As we suspected, the company's troubles were down to "wanting to develop not only hugely ambitious games, but too many hugely ambitious games", leaving the company's finances stretched after four years without a single game being released - the sole title to emerge with the Digital Anvil name on it was actually mostly developed by a small British company.

Having left the monolithic corporate world that is Electronic Arts almost five years ago to found Digital Anvil in the first place, it is somewhat ironic that his dream development studio is now being taken over by the monolithic corporate world that is Microsoft, and Roberts has confirmed that his decision to leave the company is simply because he has no desire to find himself in the same situation again.

We also have confirmation on the status of Digital Anvil's various games, with Chris Roberts apparently "spending a fair amount of time talking to other publishers" at the moment, trying to find a home for real-time strategy game "Conquest", which was dropped by Microsoft a few weeks ago, triggering the crisis that has lead to the company's demise. "Loose Cannon" will also be looking for a new publisher, with project lead Tony Zurovec leaving the company to complete the game elsewhere. Erin Roberts will be staying on at Digital Anvil though, continuing his work on an as-yet unannounced Xbox title.

But what next for Chris Roberts, the man who brought us the groundbreaking Wing Commander series? "I just want to see Freelancer out the door, and then I want to take some time to reassess everything. Taking three and a half to four years to build a massive title just seems like a huge amount of effort. There needs to be a better way to do it."

Rather worryingly though, according to GameSpot "he has expressed his interest to work in film and exploit broadband technology to us recently". Oh please god, no! Anybody who has had the misfortune to see the truly appalling Wing Commander movie will be praying that Chris has a sudden change of heart. Although he has produced some impressive games in his time, his debut movie was something of an unmitigated disaster, flopping at the box office and featuring some hilariously bad acting and dialogue which would be perfectly at home in a computer game cutscene, but just looks plain ridiculous on the big screen. We can but hope...

Just an ELE theory I posted on Discord:

  1. CIG set up a new shell company and transfer the last of the backer funds to it.
  2. CIG declare bankruptcy, the entire development team is laid off and all the current backers are screwed as they end up in the back of any queue for any money that comes from liquidation of unclaimed assets.
  3. Coutts swoops in to claim the IP/Assets they got in the loan deal and set about to hold a public auction to sell them off to the highest bidder.
  4. CIGs new shell company attempts to buy them up with the money they embessled in the dying days.
  5. CIGs new shell company (with Chris Roberts as a silent partner in hiding) announces they're going to bring the game to release but they will be unable to honour anywhere close to CIG's ridiculous list of promises and they definitely won't be able to give everyone who's already paid a copy of the game for free, they will instead offer it at a reduced rate for all backers who lost money.
  6. Profit

"Nature of business (SIC)

69109 - Activities of patent and copyright agents; other legal activities not elsewhere classified"

I wonder just what exactly this company will be used for, since all copyrights were put up as collateral for the Coutts loan.
