new caucus, Refoundation - it's a revolutionary Marxist caucus. it has people pretty much everywhere in the US so it's geographically diverse and a member on the NPC. we've been building for awhile but waited on going public until we had the program and everything sorted out, it's probably around 60 people out of the gate. the basic gist is that if we're not working to build a mass labor party then we're just jerking around and that the democratic party cannot be salvaged

so like Momentum or Praxis (everyone has to have a cool name), which were big players in the last convention - they are basically factions within the DSA. since the DSA is such a big tent organization it makes sense to advocate for your views in an open and organized way, otherwise differing opinions can get lost in the noise. this is sort of the heir to the left caucus (which tbh I'm not familiar with as I'm a new member) which advocated steering away from the DSA's embrace of the democratic party even before the member surge

This may be more mainstream than you may expect, even this time last year there were a lot of voters in my districts who at least felt police unions provided a level of protection that is unusual in the business world and perpetuated abuse.

it's not at all in favor of focusing on electoral politics, it's a revolutionary caucus not a reformist one. if you feel you can win and it's not a waste of time, go hog wild - the gains in seattle and other local fights are good for base building. however throwing in on getting leftists elected regardless of the likely outcome is a waste of resources

I'm in the LSC.

The answer is... sometimes? Most of the institutional momentum seems to come from advocating for less centralization of power within DSA itself, so the LSC as a whole has been most active when there's been movement on that front -- we lobbied extensively against the march on Washington, pushed back against problematic motions at the convention, and were central to the Accountability task force working to get Danny Fetonte recalled. There's also a project to publish libsoc position papers and thought on our website. Separate from the caucus as a whole, LSC people are forming sub groups to tackle other projects. In the Bay Area for example a lot of the people working on brake light clinics are LSC members.

But there hasn't been as much movement nationally lately. I think a lot of people on the listserv are up in arms about the latest NPC proposal on healthcare organizing though so I think we'll probably be doing something around that soon.

the DSA elects Trump to NPC because he's clearly anti-troop, what contextless tweet do you immediately send from your semi-anonymous twitter account:
A) welp... we gave it our best shot.
B) I believe the DSA is on the right track, and have nothing but comradely thoughts for our org, HOWEVER 1/388
C) Can't wait to welcome Roman Polanski to our steering committee [followed by an apology piece written on Medium]

I might be wrong but my interpretation is that it is about facilitating the growth of local-level community support structures, with the long term goal of them organically forming a party that serves their interests and would then engage in electoral politics. As opposed to an engagement in politics that is like running an advertising campaign.
