I dunno what the gently caress you're talking about. Unless I misread what PCM was saying the democrats are the only party that tolerates non-whites, and out of a two party selection I think they should probably remain intact until the republicans rend themselves apart. Saying that their politics aren't sufficiently progressive enough doesn't strike me as a prudent basis for trying to disrupt their present position as the major viable alternative to the republicans. Let the R's fall apart before trying to reform the democrats.

Thank you for calling me unbelievable though.

I'm not saying do nothing, I'm saying it might be more worthwhile to organize against the republican party broadly at the moment. Considering they have the legislature, executive, and ostensibly the court on lock it seems to me that calling for the disintegration of their only real opposition is a bit ambitious.

If you think that the democratic party are what's standing in the way of more progressive ideas becoming commonplace then I guess we just disagree. Most people still think the term "socialist" is synonymous with abusive last time I checked.

Ehhhhh, even at the time Johnson wanted a good way to get out but was afraid that it would be used to kill his Great Society work. He would have had to go through with Kennedy's "let them fight their war" plan instead of going along with McNamara and Co wanting their war. Johnson could have, at best, kept it at advisors and just ratchet down the number of them as the Saigon "government" kept up the revolving door of coups until we were out of it; at worst, it would be historical.

Johnson hated the idea of looking weak and especially didn't want to lose a war, regardless of whether or not it was for the right reason. It might have helped if he had replaced at least some of the Cabinet, but that's really turning down the hypothetical road. But if, and its a huge if that can be seen clearly from the Moon, Johnson had been able to extricate the US from Vietnam AND been able to keep political capital in Congress he probably could have kept the Great Society advancements going.

But its a HUGE if.

Huge if, hypothetical as well. I think the US could have and can have what many see as a right. The forces against it were the same as any western country. The one with monetary power against those without, in an ostensibly democratic country. Too see it as too far or revolutionary is meeting the enemy on their terms. My dad went south to get his knee fixed, I have waited and lost...six months? I can’t imagine living in a world where I might be on the hook for that. I can imagine staying with a company for their extended etc, but I would not, not take time to better my body if I had the choice.

When generic R would beat generic D by a ton, and the Republican pedophile is currently claiming the whole story is a plot by Democrats, the media, and Establishment Republicans, it's probably best to stand back and let the story feed itself.

Everyone knows about the story already. People's brains are so broken from partisanship that the moment Jones starts heavily attacking Moore for the story, Republicans snap back to AHA I KNEW IT WAS A DEMOCRAT PLOT. At most, Jones could go more biographical about honor or whatever, but R-versus-D would still likely gently caress him.

Moore stated there was “no evidence in this case of an implied threat of serious physical injury.” A child was raped. What kind of “judge” says that?
