Non practicing Papist here but socialist catholics generally have a great understanding on guilt tripping and should use that to their advantage to push a left message to other Catholics.

serious talk in c-spam I know but I hear some California chapters are talking about municipal or state banks ala the North Dakota model and I'd be interested to hear both ideologically and tactically why folks are interested in a state-run bank as opposed to a credit union with membership control.

Plus really what is the Disney megacorp going to do to me or the masses other than make movies and add new additions to their theme parks. Its not like its UPMC which is a "non-profit" healthcare company that spends most of its time buying out competition and refusing to pay taxes and trying everything in the world to prevent its workers from unionizing.

(I think that is happening in 2021 when Mickey becomes 100 iirc) mickey mouse was going to enter the public domain in like 2000 and then disney rammed through a law in 1998 to extend all copyrights by at like 20 or 25 years lol and theyll certainly do it again or maybe this time theyll sell all their IP to their dutch subsidiary for a dollar then figure out way to enforce dutch copyright law worldwide

our steering committee voted down incorporation last night, kind of bummed about that decision. we're now looking at fiscal sponsorship with Jobs with Justice, which is okay, but we'll have to give them 10% of our donations. any other larger chapters dealing with this?

Our chapter's pretty small but we're having a hard time deciding whether to incorporate on our own or to get an account from national on their tax status (really unclear as to the details of what that means). I think we'd rather disband than tie ourselves financially to the local JWJ outfit though tbh.

As I understood it from the stakeholder conference call, national is offering a group exemption for tax-exempt status, not actually their "account", incorporation is something that is separate from tax filing that just makes you a legal entity. I'm not sure I perfectly understand the concern about incorporating, but I also don't know what the local state laws are on it. In Oklahoma, you can have as little as one director listed on the board when incorporating. We decided that we'd only require the co-chairs and treasurer to be on the "board" for incorporation, since that was already what was provided in our bylaws as whose names would be on any financial accounts. If the concern is having people's names listed legally, I think you can make sure only a few roles are explicitly for that (like Treasurer).
