Some of you who are familiar with my twin turbo V8 S2000 are gonna hate me for this, but I will be faster because of it so who gives a poo poo what you think. Just kidding. I am really sad to put the S2000 on hold, but unless you've owned or attempted it you wouldn't understand how much time I was pissing away essentially punching a brick wall expecting it to fall down. I decided to take a different approach and find a car that I could do all the things I love(turbo kits, engines, tubing fabrication, wiring, racing, and wrenching) without having to worry about sinking 12,000 into a NHRA approved 7.50 chromoly chassis and four link and still ending up with a overly tight unibody car with a useless wheelbase. Additionally finding a car I could take apart in a walmart parking lot mid drag week was huge.

I quickly discovered that money goes amazingly far in this game compared to other approaches(stock chassis). You can essentially buy 200X model year prostock car or a brand new top sportsmen cars for ten grand without engines. For another 8 grand you can buy a car so lite a LS swapped honda seems like a bus. That is where I ended up.

Here is my new baby. I love her. She might not be unique but drat if it isn't loving awesome. So what is it? It is a factory roof/quarters/door panels 67' camaro, fully certified chromoly tube chassis built 5 months ago. Strut front end, Aerospace brakes, twin and single chute, wheelie bar, all aluminum tin work, Fits up to 33x16 tire and 15x15 wheels. Most importantly she weighs 2200lbs with a small block and 200lb driver. Changing any engine component or chassis component can be done in minutes rather than hours only with a lift(looking at you S2000 plugs). There is very very little camaro on this car outside of the roof, quarters, and doors. Everything is 1/4 turn fastenered and quick release. It is a dream to work on truly.

My plan is to swap some of my S2000's LS components over to a new 427 Dart LsNext block and perhaps do twin 80mm turbos mounted in the fender wells. First I need to sell a kidney for a pair of 33" tall slicks and 15" wide beadlocks. My tiny 28x10.5w 15x11 wheels look like playthings under the fender

The only goals are 'i wanna go fast' and drag week. Hopefully with the increased ease of repair I can make that happen this year.

Welp, as you point out, will definitely be faster and easier to work on. I'm working on design of a tube chassis RX-7 so believe me, I get the appeal.

Soooo, you’ve kept the s2000 as a roller/mothballed project? That’s good news- it sounded before like you’d have to sell it to get this.

Is this the part where you tell what the wheelbase and track of the new ride and and we get to googling cars for donor body panels?

Just think, you could have the fastest tube frame Mazda MPV in the world.

With that front suspension, I doubt it. I see geometry designed to keep it straight and able to stay down once it wheelies, not much else.

110". Cars so big I had to rent a new 5 car garage. Cant wait to enjoy the new space and take on additional projects. Maybe a diesel Chevy Luv daily. The S2000 is teetering on mothballed, and being sold. Who knows. The chassis is so cut up it would have to goto someone who wanted a drag car, so its probably better to just keep it and reapproach years down the line. Alternatively I would sell it if I could further this project.

I want a unlimited class drag week car and this car has that potential. Can't wait to play with the turbo placement in the current weeks! New 30x40 shop is going to change how I approach this hobby. So much room to do anything I want, including perhaps a dyno.

This is cool as all hell. How much was the body? Is it all one unit like a dynacorn thing or a bunch of new-made patch panels like the car in the "Chevelle of Thesus" thread? Is it attached with quick-release fasteners too? Is there a ready-made market for this sort of old-style body on a new racing chassis, or is it fully custom? Sorry for all the questions but I'm just really fuckin' intrigued.

Because I want to compete in races that call for stock roof and quarters those are old steel and so are the doors. They are however quarter turn fastened to the car which is amazing. The front end is a two piece carbon clip. So you can pull the hood independently. As for the chassis mine is custom but you can buy a crazy welded chassis for like 7-10k from companies like quartermax or Tim McAmis. Really to do a real unibody or real frame drag car now is basically stupid unless you are required to have things like stock firewall.

Love talking about this thing. It isn’t ‘unique’ but it’s functionally amazing. The weight alone is shocking.

I know I already asked you this via text but it bears repeating:

How are the VINs handled for something like this if it is titled? After all, there's not much (any?) original metal on this thing.

I personally think titles make no sense anyway. Sigh.

WUT.
If it's still got some original sheetmetal, it might have enough in the right place to retain the original '67 VIN. Otherwise, I guess it's gotta be registered as a kit car or something, if he's not willing to buy an old pile of rust with an intact VIN. Which would be illegal. :ssh:

Considering tons of cars like this have vins I am not too worried. It will be far more camaro than a full dynacorn build or a full fiberglass promod with a vin tag.

Basic plan is to buy a 67-69 and swap the body. Just enough of it. Keep extra pieces(like quarters and roof) for wall kiss repair.

Given how hard my brain is working trying to figure out how that trailer would be hitched to the front of that xterra, the only other logical (?) conclusion is that it is hitched to the back of this "road legal" car. And that is both :perfect: and :shepicide:

Drag week cars can't have a support vehicle, but can tow a trailer. They also have to drive from track to track on public roads, thus they must be fully road legal (lights and everything) and registered with plates. So yes, its full on :black101:.

Hot Rod also puts on Drag Weekend, which is an abbreviated version of Drag Week. AZ/CA though so it doesn't solve all your problems.

There were rumblings that a Drag Weekend East would happen sometime, but no news.

I think the Zip Tie Drags were either supposed to partially or completely replace Drag Weekend as well. Not as west coast: OH, TN, IL, AZ.

Rocky Mountain Drag week is in the West this year, and Drag Week proper is around Atlanta this year. So its a great year for those of us on the coast.

When starting out on the cab replacement for my FJ45, I specifically made sure that swapping over the vin plate was legal here in Ontario. Some level of tomfoolery is allowed, it would seem. I was required to document it and nothing more. Was told the vin plate must remain with the chassis if the body is going byebye. The old cab got crushed by snow two winters ago and we scrapped it last year.

Small update!

Finished the motor plate. Took the small block chevy motor plate and used sbc and LS cad files to compare it with the trans mount holes(same for Big, Small, and LS blocks) and make a conversion plate. Oddly the LS is 1.315" shorter?! Weird! So I lasered a new LS plate and used the old plate to match the mounting holes. Worked great!

Then I began mounting the motor. So drat easy in this car! I now understand how race teams can change motors and transmissions in minutes. I don't regret this purchase one bit after this small bit of wrenching!

Video of the new car's interior and how you can put a trans in without a jack and the new shop I just got.

Finally I quickly mocked up my intake and headers. This motor is so drat small in this car. It is shocking.

Lower the S2K over a Corolla engine & trans, then post a photo of the mock up to the S2k boards saying that you'd had a change of heart after their sterling defence of OEM Honda tunability and handling. Ask where you get a carb kit for it while you're there.

Worked for about an hour, and bullshited for another three. Got the turbo setup mounted. Surprisingly I only need to shorten one side by a 1/2" and make new dumps/downpipes. Rethinking my intake and might run a dual throttlebody setup to avoid the S2000's twin J cold side tubes

As many of you know I had "student driver" on the S2000 and that became its nickname. In No Prep racing cars need names like drug addled WWF wrestlers. I've decided to call the car "The Abyss" and put a sticker on the bumper that says "Abyssal Gapped" to taunt the other lane. Should make for some fun. Not as much as Mr. GAPP himself Stevie "Fast" Jackson who does blower inserts mocking opponents every time he grudge races and poo poo talks like no other.

So I decided to make some changes from the setup that was in the honda. Bought a pair of 83mm Bullseyepower turbos capable of 1500hp a piece or 2900 as a pair. Going to move them into the fender wells. Also going to have to go tall deck block which increases deck height of the block and thus displacement capability. Hopefully 460+ cubic inches if I can work out the cash. Should work awesome!

Planning on mounting them like this

Here is a size comparison of a S400(mine is bigger than this) and a S300 frame turbo. Crazy bigger.

M5 or M1 methanol. M5 is a power adder fuel so there is a gain of 10-15% more power via goblin rectums or something. It will be a dual fuel car once I get it registered e85 for the street and m1 for racing.
