Yeah I deal with this constantly too. Everyone hates me because I nag them, but if I don't they'll never do what I need. I've had less important issues sit for months then someone from their team pings me saying, "we're cleaning up our queue, is it ok if I close your ticket since it's so old?".

I do this all the goddamn time because my users love to open bullshit tickets. 0.1% failure rate on a command is not actionable, so I'm gonna let your ticket simmer for a couple weeks and then update with a "is this ancient ticket still an issue?" before resolving it.

This is what project managers, business analysts, or junior employees are for. If you are senior enough and/or fortunate to have one of those people on your team, make them do all the chasing. I've even forced interns to call executives to chase them for poo poo.

So my boss is scheduling a meeting next week for me to explain why my replacement is so bad. Maybe if you are hiring an “expert” for a system you should actually make sure they know the system? I guess her boss is pushing back on why all of the sudden he is crashing and burning right when I stopped holding his hand. The guy can’t even find an option in a context menu when it is right in his face and I’m telling him the option to pick. 5 more days and none of this will come up again. I’ve pretty much been pushing back at my boss saying none of this is my issue. They hired someone in a different country for 1/20th the cost and then wanted me to transfer 10 years of knowledge and experience via Skype. gently caress em. Worst they can do is fire me a few days before I quit.

Outsourcing is one thing that really pisses me off and I have seen this happen so many times, I am glad that he is crashing and burning and that your idiot boss has to deal with it.

This is their second attempt to outsource this position. The first attempt was about 7 years ago when I was only partially in this role. They had the exact same issues with “experts” not actually being experts and the Indian replacement not asking questions. It failed then and I went completely in to the role. I don’t know if it is a cultural issue or just bad luck but almost every person they’ve tried to export a job to has said “yes they can do it” but aren’t actually able to and won’t ask for help or ask questions. This attempt is coming out because we got bought by a multinational firm that tries to save every penny they can even when it costs them dollars. Your previous posts to this thread have numerous examples of how your replacement is a fuckup. Maybe print a list of all that stuff you told him and he subsequently ignored to prove good faith. Looks like you are only doing this for a reference and there's no severance on the line or anything so who cares :P

Not pissing me off: I adjusted my schedule so I now work from 6am to 3pm. It is great because you sit in silence for 3 hours because everyone else here seems to be late starters. Also trams and metros are slightly less crowded then normal so thats nice to.

If I were working 6 to 3, I'd be a miserable loving sandy oval office until about 11. 9:30-6 is about right. The 20-minute walk to work helps a lot, though.

More time in the AM to not deal with people, and more time with the kids on the backend. But it was definitely a lifestyle adjustment period to get comfortable with that schedule.

I have narcolepsy, so I try as hard as I can to get as close to my body's natural rhythms that I can, there's no way I'd survive 7-3.

If you don't have a working relationship with a doctor because it was diagnosed as a child or something and you've just dealt with it, I highly recommend starting one so you have something. I image there's some legal protections with a doctors note (as long as you were hired for a set of hours you could work, which sounds like you were).

I'm really hoping if we move out west we can just forego me having to attend morning standup but our guys in Belarus have to attend, so that gives me pause. I just don't want to have to fight that battle, I REALLY like this place so far. But it's equally probable we end up in Boston or Baltimore or somewhere, in which case nothing changes. I'm also working on trying to convince our scrum master to have standup an hour later so everyone has a chance to go through their email and teams chats and stuff to get oriented before we meet (half the time people's updates now are "Well I have no idea what I'm doing because I saw 50 emails about a bug maybe"). Side note: Modafinil is a loving miracle drug and I'm so happy to finally have insurance that covers it. It's been an uphill battle for 5 years to get that poo poo legally without paying $200/month for it.

I become a miserable oval office when there are too many people around me in public (standing too close to me or even touching me in passing, smelling like old sweat, not having their phone on silent, children) also I run out of mental energy around 2pm so having me stay after that is essentially paying me to stare at a a wall/floor/ceiling.

I have a flexible start time between 7am and 9:30am and many times over the years I've put in effort to be one of those "at my desk at 8 and smiling" people but it's just not in me. Getting up that early makes me permanently tired and crabby and I never want to be productive. So I get in at 9:25 every day and people look at me funny but gently caress them I'm happy at work and it's in the rules.
