Couturier put up serious numbers this year and has that defensive specialist reputation. But yeah it'll probably be Kopitar. Or hell, even just Bergeron inertia. I hope the Norris goes to Hedman, but gotta wonder what the impact would be on Doughty's contract negotiations if it goes to him.

Kopitar was better than Couturier so that’s fine.Lost Season posted:He was getting some buzz as an MVP candidate before he was injured, though, so I don't know that the games missed will ding him all that much He doesn’t really have anything that jumps out ahead of the other two, so the potential points lost by missing those games (Bruins went 9-2-2 without him, that was a lot of winning to get points in on) is what’s dinging him.

NHL tends to make safe picks, so: Kopitar for Selke PK for Norris Rinne for Vezina.

PK is the opposite of safe pick for the Norris. That poo poo would get debated for years. It'll go to Doughty, or if the award voters don't want to give two big ones to Kings players, Hedman. Subban will finish a distant 3rd.

Subban wasn't exceptional this year and tbh I'm surprised he got nominated.

Rinne definitely gets the Vezina. Pk is cool and Hedman probably deserves the Norris, so it'll go to doughty. Plus, he was better this year than 15-16 when he won't it.

Peters is a weird case because it seems like he runs a decent enough possession system but at some point you have to translate that possession into goals.

In a small industry with a relatively stable collection of high level employees, being known as the cheap rear end who interferes is a surefire way to end up with a group of third rate executives under your employ.

I agree that the owner is making a hilarious mess of things I'm just saying Peters did miss 4 years in a row and that's enough/should be enough to get any coach fired.

Carolina biggest problem is they have sub-.900 goaltending
|
# ? Apr 20, 2018 17:08 |

Also possessing the puck doesn’t help that much if your goaltending can’t even crack .910. Edit: yeah exactly ^ Scoring talent is a real thing. The Leafs PP% under Babcock went from 29th in his first year to being 2nd two years running. System and shot generation were basically the same, but it turns out Marner and Matthews are a lot better at scoring than PA Parenteau and Brad Boyes.

He's never had the talent I believe they also create a high number of high danger area chances, but they honestly just do not have the talent up front to score enough. I'd probably be happy with him on the Rangers as he worked with a young team in Carolina and probably got the most out of them with what he had to work with, but yeah sounds like Calgary's all up in that

Russian news source Sport-Express reports that SKA St. Petersburg defenseman Yegor Yakovlev is planning to sign with the New Jersey Devils. It seems that GM Ray Shero and company have stayed busy on the talent acquisition front for next season, despite the team still being focused on their first-round playoff series. Anyone else watched the U-18s this year? Alexis Lafreniere is playing insanely good for a 16 year old, I think he might be a McDavid level prospect. At least in the America game he looked as good as Jack Hughes, who is a year older and probably a solid bet for being the #1 puck in 2019 Lafreniere finished his 16 year old season 9th in QMJHL scoring with 80 points in 60 games. For comparison sure thing top 5 pick this year Filip Zadina had 82 points in 58 games as an 18 year old. McDavid has 66 points in 63 games as a 16 year old in the OHL, but to be fair his team was absolute garbage and still finished last in the league where Lafreniere’s team seems to have been at least average.
