Giroux should have been the 3rd nominee, with Hall and Mackinnon, and McDavid and Kucherov are better MVP candidates than Kopitar too. Like even if you don't think the award should be Art Ross 2.0 - Giroux and McDavid are easily more valuable to their franchises relatively speaking.
