The irony in that minitruck article thing is the way we are importing them completely sidesteps those issues because they are explicitly exempt from EPA and saftey standards, it's in-built to the 25 year rule. People get confused because people want to import minitrucks that are newer than 25 years. As for why there is a fuss it's probably something simple like him having friends in industries that make those sorta off-road 4wheeler truck things. Why spend 3 grand on a Deere when you can spend the same 3 grand and get a Honda with a fully enclosed cabin and AC? Havent tried yet, a ton of people in Oregon do that for dual sport bikes though. Oregon will not register or sell them brand new for highway use, however if you get it registered in Washington first they do not look at what kind of bike it is and will register them no questions asked. edit: by dual sport i mean the dirt bikes that have all the DOT stuff to make them street legal (lights, etc)

Here in Ontario I might be able to import a 2002 GT-R but I can't plate it if it's mostly

Also, at least in my experience the only thing required to get registration is emissions, most states don't do shaken/engineering/road worthy inspections, that's why you can have the most dangerous poo poo legally driving on US roads.

This is also why people get away with importing stuff newer than 25 years and getting started titles on stuff not federally legal, the state and federal things aren't connected really. What Garbageman is dealing with is shitheads that don't know poo poo. As for country of origin? What like if a car isn't legal for Japan use you can't use it here?

Here you have to get an e-test every 2 years after the first 7 for any vehicle that's MY 1988 or newer. If you live in an area that requires e-testing that is. To get plates when you get a registration you have a safety inspection performed sometime in the month before you get the reg. While the rules (for here) are that it has to meet the reqs for the country it was originally sold in generally a shop isn't likely going to look that up for a safety and will just do the same inspection they would on any other vehicle. I was merely wondering if that meant 1988 or newer JDM imports up here had to get e-tested (in say the GTA) on the regular or not and if that meant they had to meet Japanese emissions.

I don't know where here is, however generally almost any Japanese car will be better than a US car on emissions, their laws change every year and are way more strict than US laws. The first Suzuki kei we imported had no CAT and passed the Oregon emission requirement (more strict than federal requirements).

It’s to the point that I almost want to get a used Isuzu NPR and put a bed on it rather than buy a giant Chevy Silverado. I actually want to do work with it, rather than daily drive it, so all the fancy tech is unnecessary. AC and a decent stereo is all I need. A smaller JDM style truck would almost be perfect.

Mitsubishi, Mazda and Nissan all were doing the same sort of truck layout with floor shifters. There is no physical reason why, the vans have floor shifters but the trucks ???

Might need a bit to top up but still. Any car I'm going to import is almost always going to have AC and if it needs service it's a lot easier to just keep it R12 if possible, especially if I sell it to someone else. Dunno when Japan gave up on R12 but I've got at least a couple more years of not-converted R12 systems.

Dock Pix AZ-1                 Pajero                  The AZ-1 is completely stock, maybe including the headunit? Looks like it has little tweaters installed and an aftermarket key but it looks pretty dang fantastic. The Pajero is in great shape too, it looks like what a conversion van would be in the early 90s that some grandparents would have but instead it's had the conversion bits stuck on a Pajero instead. Peep them Lay-Z-Boy curtains, and the 'arrangement' of buttons it has in the driver's area. Pretty sure that's a CB radio. KEEP GREEN PAJERO

It seems to be one of those words that the UK (and probably australia) still uses while the rest of the English speaking world, and the Japanese, see as an ethnic slur.
