That kind of hardware is expensive. They're not made of money.

No, they did have other snagging machines. They just didn't have one you could just attach to your arm, like Wes did. Presumably, their ways were simply much less efficient.

It's worth noting that there's no 'probably', he's kind of snagging them left and right here. Granted the one thing I felt was weird was the lack of trainer acknowledgement in that.

The thing Wes blew up in the beginning was the main snag machine. It converts Poke Balls into Snag Balls for everyone to use, but only last for a day. Its a big sucker tho

Considering that in the main line games it's the trainer knocking away your pokeball if you try to steal one of their Pokemon, we must conclude that the snag machine just let's you throw the balls really hard.

Part 8: Down Under

Pyrite Building

There's the elevator to take, but we're actually going to go all the way back to Miror B.'s cave for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Just feel like it, okay?

What the heck is that bullshit? Oh yeah, every trainer here will rematch us since we left the area. Unlike other games with a rematch feature, it's not optional, since they will battle you if you enter their sight. It's kinda completely bullshit, since I don't really wanna rematch all these trainers. But I must.

Still, since we beat Dakim, their teams have levelled up and are more interesting to fight. Well, slightly more interesting, but it means we'll get even more exp, which I don't want, since I wanna make this game kinda challenging.

They act exactly the same as the first time we fought them, which is a bit of a shame, but flicking the instant rematch switch was probably nice and easy to ensure you wouldn't get stuck without some form of infinite exp the main games have in wild Pokemon.

Through the endless boosts, we gain some levels.

It was a very good level, cause drat did Dhalsim need that boost, look at that Attack! Uh, well, you gotta double it first...

Okay that wasn't too painful, but at least for trainers you had to talk to in order to battle them, such as the ones down in Duel Square and the cave sentinel, you need to talk to them again to rematch them.

So we can run right past mister short-sighted, but mister normal-sighted will battle us.

Oh yeah we haven't used Solarbeam yet, how is it in this game?

Fuckin perfect.

For whatever reason, Hunter Zalo is the only trainer we rematch here that has different dialogue. But only when he first talks to us.

Octillery does not have a good level up movepool after the goldmine it got as a Remoraid.

But we've made it to the depths. Could it be... COULD IT BE???

No. But pretty drat close.

Mirakle B.'s Theme

Not off to the best start, especially with that Light Screen. Unless you know to come back here before the postgame, you would have no idea that Mirakle B. is even here, unless you need to backtrack for a Shadow Pokemon or a missed item or what have you. Especially since you have to fight so many trainers to get here. I wouldn't have known to do this in the LP if I wasn't following a guide my first time playing just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Everyone's picking on Umbreon... even though Mawuh is right there with an Electric weakness. This AI man.

Okay please stop doing that

...Dhalsim.

Okay, now we can start doing some damage.

Though this Ludicolo that entered the battle might be a problem. We've got practise in fighting them though.

Hmm, maybe this isn't a Ludicolo after all.

Even though my hair hasn't grown to a full afro do...

Well wasn't that fun? The best time to do this is before we head down, since he only appears after beating Dakim and disappears without a trace after beating the game.

We have to go around this girl, but if you hug the wall she won't see you and we can avoid a battle. Neat! Let's head down.

The Under

Oh! Wait a second. It has been a long time since anyone has come down here.

The Under Time

Now this is one hell of an interesting location for a Pokemon game.

It's horrid. There are spies right here in THE UNDER. Can you imagine? We don't really know all the details, but if you see anyone suspicious, please let us know. Everyone, please, I'm counting on you! We need you to get lots of information for us!

And that was Lady VENUS! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, thank you for watching. Please do tune in again!

The Under

While that might be the case, I think we should do some SHOPPING down there!

Ohhhhhhhhh baby, this is where most of the non-Colosseum battle TMs are hiding, there are some real good ones. We've got Blizzard, Hyper Beam, Light Screen, Protect, Safeguard, Thunder, Reflect, Fire Blast and Hidden Power, all really excellent moves to consider for your team, especially in a doubles focused game with lots of team support options.

We'll get some elemental shells for our tank, since even at 75% power, Blizzard still does more than Aurora Beam and Fire Blast is a really good move, though I'll always be upset when we miss. It's also good to give your Earthquake weak Pokemon Protect, though while I debated giving Protect to Carbuncle, I decide to next update. Our team is looking pretty good!

But even though I'm so near to her, I've not seen even a glimpse of her in person. Oh, it hurts deeply!

Everyone seems as normal as Pyrite Town, so they've got that going for them.

Let's see what's past this locked storage area.

Holy crap it's the only vending machine in the game! We could use some Lemonade to save on Super Potions. Moomoo Milk aren't in this game, alas.

Humph. I don't mean any offense, but you don't exactly look tough. I'll test you to see how well you can battle.

I have my gripes with Hi Jump Kick, but god I love it too.

I'm tempted to give Dhalsim Hidden Power, but it'll only be useful for Ghost types if it's physical and has a high enough power. Since the rest of our team can deal with them no problem, I don't think they'll be an issue for Dhalsim this game. Mostly.

I know right, apparently people are saying I don't look like a spy! Honestly...

Some weird kids in the corner, well whatever, kids are dumb and never do anything, so we'll ignore them.

Let's dive deep into the nightlife. Uh, since it's underground, I guess there's always nightlife here...

That's a little bit much for a heal, especially since we blew all our money on TMs.

Oh, uh, I'm sorry.

The Under Time

I'm very disappointed. The spies haven't been caught yet. Can you imagine? Everyone, please, I'm counting on you for mre cooperation!

And that was Lady VENUS! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, thank you for watching. Please do tune in again!

What is with that "I'm your VENUS" shtick? It's revolting!

:yikes:

Everyone's being really mean to me today.

One day, I'm going to enter and get me a SHADOW POKMEON. Before that, I'll test the opposition starting with you! Here goes!

I mean, uh, if you insist...

Surely you've got something else up your sleeve?

Yes... hahaha... YES!

I love Wailord so much.

Looks like the same thing is happening here. Ooh, I can't wait to enter the Colosseum with no interruptions!

Just tell NETT that it's from PERR. He'll tell you the details. NETT's house is the one with the big, rotating antenna dish. You'll know which one it is as soon as you see it.

Alright, I think I remember where that is. And so you're not watching me backtracking, how about I tell you a joke? So, three Electrode walk into a bar...

We'll catch them right away, pulverize, and mash them up. Giggle...

...fine. The priority is to distribute SHADOW POKEMON. Don't forget. As for you, EIN, hurry. Complete the SHADOW POKEMON development as soon as possible.

Your trust will not be misplaced, Master NASCOUR. Already, sufficient SHADOW POKEMON battle data has been gathered from our minions. My masterpiece... the most powerful SHADOW POKEMON in history shall soon be ready!

Good. I will be waiting for good news. That is all.

Now... it is time we returned to the LAB and put on the finishing touches.

Huh? Are you... are you "the" THOMAS and ANCA? Oh, wow, this is too awesome! Come on, you have to get inside. Quick, quick!

...and then I said "That's not a Pokeball, that's my wife!" Man, I've been wanting to tell this joke for ages, I hope you liked it.

Try not to be too shocked when you hear it! It's THOMAS and ANCA!

No! Really?!

THOMAS, you two are, like, totally famous on the KIDS GRID. Every kid in THE UNDER knows that you're the hero who's taking on CIPHER.

This is like a dream come true! THOMAS, ANCA, I'm so glad to meet you. I'm MEGG! The KIDS GRID is bringing together kids from faraway towns.

Oh, this is from PERR. Great, this is all that I needed to get the KIDS GRID back up and running again.

But this POWERUP PART you delivered will let me boost up our equipment. When we get the KIDS GRID back up, I'll track to hack their computers for useful data.

May I have your P*DA number? We'll contact you just as soon as we discover anything. Thank you! We'll do our best to gather useful information for you.

It's cool to meet the too cool for school h&ck3rs club, but I wonder what kind of dumbass got caught in a place full of idiots.

Goddammit Silva... guess we should go rescue him.

I got it! You came to rescue your pal here! You two are spies, too!

Cipher Peon Battle

Man it has been a while since our last Shadow Pokemon, right?

Due to its massive SpDef, it can take a super effective hit and be a great example of our new Net Balls.

Ledian, 90 catch rate (99%, low health, Net Ball), starting moves: Comet Punch, Supersonic, Safeguard, Shadow Rush/Baton Pass

Hoo boy is this a tough Pokemon to use, we're gonna have some real interesting choices coming up and, well, you're not using Ledian for damage, since the best move it'll know for the entire game is Swift shortly after you purify it. It cannot learn a single STAB move in this game, as Silver Wind is via breeding and Aerial Ace isn't in this game, but if you want some damage, you could go for Giga Drain, but Dhalsim has higher SpAtk than Ledian. DHALSIM. Thankfully Ledian is in a double battle game, so team support is absolutely something it, uh, has to do, so you've got dual screens and Baton Pass, one of two Shadow Pokemon that can have it, if you want to pass Agility boosts. Aside from that, you can Toxic stall and, uh, that's about it. It'll take special attacks quite comfortably, but doesn't agree with any kind of physical attack. Ledian is cool, but goddamn its stats are just a real shame, since I can't even recommend Comet Punching fools all day.

No

Ahah, now we've got a Shadow Ariados!

Oh, no, actually, instead we have Bug types with Bug type moves, something I was not expecting.

That's fine, I'll just apply some oils to my weapons...

Haha, that's the good stuff! Fire Blast is too good a move to pass up and will really annihilate Grass types when the sun is up, which I can do with Magnolia. Alright, now for a Blizzard showcase.

Uh, yeah, that's as good as it'll get. Since Ice Beam is postgame, Blizzard is a super useful move for this game since it's like hitting both opponents with a fairly inaccurate Ice Beam. If only there was Abomasnow in this game... and the Blizzard Hail combo.

The Under

You can fight those peons in any order, but going for the Shadow Pokemon first is probably a good idea in case you need to reset.

I discovered that they were bringing SHADOW POKEMON to PYRITE from here. That's as far as I got when they caught me like this... but I did manage to filch this from them. Here you go.

If you find the key to this place, please let me out.

These disks let us ride the UFO! We'll use the F-Disk first and visit the Colosseum.

I hate that item and I hate this man. We'll see why later.

At least the Herb Shop is here and, despite being released just after RS, Revival Herbs are back to normal and are a buyable Max Revive, instead of a lovely expensive Revive.

We'll check out the Colosseum in a second, but there is something you really should do.

We've now got a fast travel point to The Under, so we never have to go through Pyrite Building again.

I will start registering trainers for the next knockout challenge just as soon as Lady VENUS finishes giving prizes to the winner.

We're never gonna challenge a Colosseum as soon as we reach it...

Nothing else to do, but to head to the right. Let's crash this party!

Oh I love a good audience.

You ready to face another Cipher Admin? No you're not, you're never ready.

Those faces were on the blacklist from HEADQUARTERS! How did you find us?! But that's not important now! I'll squash you myself and collect a reward from Master NASCOUR!

Cipher Admin Battle

Venus is a very dangerous opponent, since her Pokemon can do the worst thing imaginable: make you flip coins every turn. Attract and Confuse Ray are some of the worst moves in the game and her Pokemon pack some real power behind them. Thankfully she led with a Normal type, so it gets instantly deleted. What? Dhalsim needs exp!

Most of the time Magnolia will survive a hit or two, so can easily set up sun. Sure, a Sunny Day and Solarbeam does as much as two Giga Drains, but the real numbers and utility come from three or four Solarbeams.

Brave choice using Earthquake first turn, usually you see Taunt.

Let's deal with this bad boy right now.

Oh god this thing.

I might be slightly clowning Venus right now, but her Pokemon are strong and an Attract at a bad time will really gently caress you over.

Like that. gently caress

I'll just switch Mawuh right into that Giga Drain, oh yes I will.

Okay phew, though it's a shame that plant on plant action is still gonna keep happening.

Hope you didn't use up too many Pokeballs against Entei, cause we've got another dog to catch!

Ah, right, well this was a big mistake on my part. I should've used Fire Blast, but what can I say, when I'm up against a Grass type with a Water type, I just go for the Ice move, I'm so used to it. But Fire Blast is not only boosted by the sun, it's also more accurate AND is single target, so would've knocked out Vileplume regardless, whereas Blizzard hits, but is just too weak to knock out.

So yeah, my bad. I'm also not using Solarbeam on Suicune, cause a timely crit would be, uh, kinda bad.

Since I've been on the offensive from the get go, Venus hasn't been able to wear my Pokemon down with all kinds of status, which can quickly build up to being a massive problem, as you can see with this Vileplume running wild.

Focusing it down works out just fine, so now we're on the last mon.

Suicune, 3 catch rate (5%, low health, paralyzed, Net Ball), starting moves: Surf, Gust, Leer, Shadow Rush/Rain Dance

Oh hey it's another thing that can snap the game in half, since it has a much better typing than Entei and just will not die, no matter what you do! Surf is a real blessing and we just got Blizzard access, so it's a real no-brainer. However, that's all it does, since you won't be getting any more interesting moves for a long time, way past the postgame, so just stick Toxic and Protect on it and watch the world burn around you. It is an option to catch it later as it is the only Shadow Pokemon in the SERIES to have a different move when you encounter it in the postgame, with Hydro Pump instead of Surf, much earlier than you would normally have it. Of course, the postgame is pretty short, so it's not really worth it, but hey, you know what Suicune does and while it won't have Calm Mind until level 81, it'll easy beat the game for you, how could you not with a typing and stat spread like that?

Oh hey I got it, I showing every Pokeball I used, so, uh, two. Yeah there's no way in hell that's a 5% chance.

Remember this! I'll get you back for this!

And thus we end with the bad guy running away like always and us doing nothing to stop it. ...wait a minute let's not do that. Let's chase after her!

I wanna thank Fionordequester again, since there are no good images of the Kids Grid, uh, kids, anywhere, so I really didn't know what I was gonna do for this update, since there are, like, 5 trainers in this game that are young, so it left me with very few options.

Finally, if you want me to use a Pokemon for Mt. Battle Area 3-4, suggest it now, there's still three more slots! We'll do Area 5-6 later, since we're gonna get a few options soon enough.

Mirakle B. doesn't actually show up after Dakim. That's just when the other trainers' rematch switches get turned on. And when the level curve catches up with him.

No, Mirakle B. shows up immediately after you're warped out of the cave. And he''ll trash you easily at that point if you head in looking for any items you missed the first time.

Also, I'm pretty sure lots more of the trainers have different dialogue. In particular, the Cipher Peon in the dead end. Instead of talking about Plusle being in danger while you're wasting time, she talks about the world being in danger while you're wasting time.

Less special attack than a Medicham, you've already got a Yanma if you really want a Bug/Flying type, and you've already snagged enough Pokemon that it's not even good as team filler like Slugma was.

Part 9: Sub Under

The Under

Here's the spoils of war, it's a TM we'll never use, woo!

With all the ways you can purify Shadow Pokemon, we can use that info to make more powerful Shadow Pokemon. Somehow. ~SCIENCE~

We're gonna chase down Venus, who will take forever to reach her destination since she's only as fast as we are to get to specific points.

In a weird twist, here's an unlockable two way door! Why couldn't the Pyrite Building door be this??? Still, it lets us go back to the Under Colosseum and heal up and prep for what's coming next. It's not over.

Venus can take the quick way down, but I suppose we can be healthy and take the stairs.

Trainer Battle

We've got a fair few trainers to fight, so hey, here's the cool music! Like I really need an excuse.

After the tough Venus fight this is a bit of a breather, but we've still got more to snag. All we need to do is wea-

Alrighty then. Shadow Pokemon Resets: 4 5

Still, least I can show that trainers can switch up their Pokemon when we reset, with Gligar coming out second instead of fourth. It can throw you for a loop!

Gligar, 60 catch rate (50%, low health, Ultra Ball), starting moves: Slash, Leer, Hypnosis, Shadow Rush/Faint Attack

GLIGAR CAN LEARN EARTHQUAKE SO IT'S USABLE!!! We're not that far off from getting it either, so if you want a big ol' face hugger, then it's not a bad pick. It won't have the utility of Quagsire, nor is it able to learn any Flying move since Aerial Ace is missing, but with Slash and Steel Wing it'll have some coverage. Sludge Bomb and Iron Tail aren't particularly close, so it won't have many options and it could be an alright recipient of the coveted Return, but it's not gonna be a huge amount of damage. Also it's really weak to Surf and Blizzard, which is not a good thing. Still, it gets loving Earthquake.

Noooooooooo

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Oh thank god, nearly knocked SystemLogoff out of the running there, that was close.

What? No, don't do that.

Okay sure

Carbuncle is really starting to like me, since he nearly one shots this Kirlia. That's my boy.

Oh god this thing.

Since I know what this mon does and that it'll go for Dhalsim, since why wouldn't you, I'll stop it from taking a load of recoil.

poo poo. Good thing it didn't matter then.

Stantler, 45 catch rate (50%, low health, paralyzed, Ultra Ball), starting moves: Take Down, Leer, Hypnosis, Shadow Rush/Astonish

When you finally stop this thing from suiciding into you with hard hitting Take Downs, Stantler is a pretty alright Normal mon if Furret didn't take your fancy, though the king of Normal types is still to come. You should go for Return instead of Take Down, but Intimidate shoots your survivability up by quite a bit so you can deal some damage with Earthquake, Shadow Ball and Iron Tail, as well as go for a special set with Calm Mind... wait, really? Oh, it has 10 less SpAtk than Attack. I mean, sure, a mixed set might not be too bad, we have all the good TMs for special attackers available if you want to drop Thunder or Solarbeam with weather support. This isn't even mentioning Hypnosis, so if you need a good catcher that lowers Shadow Rush's damage, then this is the best you're gonna get. Well it's still kinda fragile even with a great ability and it won't give the punch you might want it, but hey, it's also alright I guess.

Ooh treasure. Nothing too special though.

Oh hey it's a big gun that what I got.

Weirdly enough (or maybe not), that Ice Beam came from Dunsparce. Why can't I get that move? I hate Blizzard...

Magnolia taking names with his DEATH LASER

It's another Johto thing! Man, when am I getting the final team member? Not yet, that's for sure.

Piloswine, 75 catch rate (62%, low health, Ultra Ball), starting moves: Blizzard, Dig, Odor Sleuth, Shadow Rush/Endure

This mixed up menace is back again with a split typing that doesn't help it much and not much in the way of moves, since Rock Tomb isn't in the game to give it that little bit of coverage (it's a poo poo move anyway). It'll love Earthquake, but until then its Dig will deal a lot of damage and it'll dodge some attacks since it's slow, but otherwise it's not that interesting, Ice does nothing for it, though coming with a free Blizzard is cool (heh) and it won't learn any other good moves, so give it Return, or Hyper Beam, or whatever, you'll be spamming powerful Earthquakes anyway. Uh, yeah, that's it, avoid Surf I guess.

Body Slam paralysis is pretty cool but it doesn't happen often since I am frugal in attacking these guys (most of the time).

We, uh, could've used these earlier, but hey, we're at the bottom, so let's continue the chase.

Swagger and Confuse Ray onto the same Pokemon? Next level strategy here to get rid of my Lum Berry...?

Like Carbuncle gives a poo poo.

I am getting lucky with the Pokemon being sent out, so we'll deal with them and then go for Sneasel.

Doesn't mean Sneasel should be ignored, it's got a strong physical move after all.

Sneasel, 60 catch rate (62%, low health, paralyzed, Ultra Ball), starting moves: Icy Wind, Fury Swipes, Screech, Shadow Rush/Faint Attack

For a couple of Pokemon, it could be argued that they stay as a Shadow Pokemon. Sneasel is one of them, having great attack and terrible STAB options, so having a nice move in Shadow Rush is great! Okay, you at least get some cool moves in Brick Break, Shadow Ball and Iron Tail, but no STAB, since you have terrible SpAtk, so it's perfectly usable, but it won't have that same ooomph to it that it'll have next gen. Oh man I can't wait for that. But anyway, Sneasel is pretty good, but it's really fragile and the game isn't gonna get any easier. Still this is one of the best times to use one before Platinum, so take it or leave it.

The Under

Phew, that was a nice chunk of Shadow Pokemon, last time we had that was Pyrite Cave.

...tch. This isn't good. I can't lead them to the LAB...

Before we board, there's something neat here.

Umbreoff will appreciate this for his Mt. Battle climb. Will I remember to give it him? Haha, what do you think?

That's weird... they got on the train... but they're not on the train???

You didn't think I would really let you take our train? Beh! Bye-bye, and this time I mean it! Don't you dare forget about me!

Aw man, she's really gone this time, I think we're pretty drat screwed. It's not like the people of Orre just leave important keys lying around, right?

Cipher really loves dropping stuff, oh they do.

Choo choo motherfuckers.

You're THOMAS and ANCA! How did you get down here?! Argh! This won't do! We can't let these two get into the SHADOW POKEMON LAB!

We're doing a lot of chasing today. Should be easy enough to battle them and head into the la-

JESUS CHRIST

Uh... it's too late now... come on, let's skedaddle!

Neat, we've got our way into the lab. We'll be saving it for next update, cause hoo boy that place is kinda big.

Before we head back to the Under Colosseum, we should definitely pick this up.

And now that the Colosseum is open with Venus gone, let's enter and get some sweet TMs, they're really good!

I love the look of this place, big 3D battle environments are my jam.

15 levels higher than us, you say? Well, like with the Pyrite Colosseum, we'll be challenging this place later. But, like with every Colosseum, it's definitely in your best interest to challenge them.

So instead let's use our new UFO key.

It leads to the second Time Flute! If you want the final Time Flute, then you'll need to do a lovely gruelling challenge that'll take you to the postgame.

Alright, we've got a bit of time in this update, so let's do a couple of neat things. Not too many, mind you, this game does not have much to it, we're two thirds of the way through now.

How's the l33t cr3vv doing?

THOMAS, you're going to go out to the LAB, aren't you? For sure, the LAB will have important data on SHADOW POKEMON. It doesn't matter what it is; if you find any sort of data, please be sure to bring it back here.

I think we're done with The Under for a bit, so I think it's time to enter the Pyrite Colosseum, I think our Pokemon are strong enough. I feel like I'm forgetting something though... OH poo poo SILVA

Alright cool, we'll go up the quick way and enter our second Colosseum challenge!

Colosseum Battle

Oh good. Dig strategies. How swell.

This is why Umbreon gets Protect. We'll be facing a few evolved Pokemon here and there, but the Pyrite Colosseum isn't particularly tough. I think this is the best time to try it, but you can definitely go for earlier.

I feel like we face a lot of Linoone and Furret in this game, is that just me?

Overall, not too bad. I'm not gonna sift through 30 minutes of footage for something potentially interesting, this is all we need until the tougher battles.

This could be fun, Dhalsim has a spare moveslot anyway since Rock Tomb isn't here. Oh yeah, only Phenac Colosseum cares about you using Shadow Pokemon (well, Rui does), all the other ones are fine.

Oh whoops, I didn't want to use these two again as a lead, guess they're getting some extra exp!

Nature Power and Secret Power can do all kinds of crazy stuff in these games, but I don't believe anyone's actually catalogued it. I wouldn't.

If Blizzard has perfect accuracy in Hail, then it would be more useful. Otherwise, eh.

Baltoy goes boom, but it's only a little boom, so even Dhalsim survives from full.

Ah poo poo a Gligar with Aerial Ace. It's actually weirdly good against our team, only Mawuh can take a couple hits, since we're nearly 15 levels weaker than it.

Mawuh please.

Roar. Why is this in the game and moves like Aerial Ace and Water Pulse aren't???

The fourth and final round starts off strong. Our team is fine against Surf and the like, so I don't fancy giving our team Light Screen. Reflect is super useful, but I feel like special moves aren't as dangerous. Especially in this game.

Oh hey a Protect, did the AI predict me going for Hi Jump Kick or somethi-

OH GOD DAMMIT

This last fight is actually super duper tough cause of all the evolved Pokemon hanging around and Lunatone getting lucky with the Psywave rolls.

Thankfully it rolled low this time, so Umbreon can deal some more chip. At least Ampharos can't take down ours very easily.

I already told you no!

Despite landing a couple of Dynamicpunches (which is bullshit), we squeak out a win!

And finally, finally, we get Brick Break. Dhalsim does not need another Fighting move and no one else on our team can use it, so Umbreon gets it so he can do SOMETHING against Ground types. Sure, it might not be a lot, but in doubles, chip damage can be super useful when you're taking down a Pokemon.

We'll be purifying another six Pokemon: Hitmontop, Suicune, Ledian, Piloswine, Gligar and Stantler, leaving Sudowoodo (wanna see how low I can get it just walking) and Sneasel (next batch).

Alright, to end the update, we'll be going through the first two areas of Mt. Battle, using Pokemon chosen by yooooooooooooou! Future trips to Mt. Battle will be in their own, smaller, updates, similar to the Pokemon Contest update from Emerald. There's a few other times I'll be putting a chunk of content in a small update if they're not large enough for their own full on update.

I hope you do well on your knockout challenge!

THOMAS! Go for it!

Mt. Battle

If I used the main team for this 100 battle slugfest, I would die of boredom, since this, uh, legit Gamecube console doesn't have speedup, so I need to use some interesting mons. Plusle is Duking's Pokemon that he "traded" to us, so we can't nickname her, but that's what cheats are for. Cheers to Solumin for the nickname.

Pikachu? has got quite the mountain to climb, as she doesn't learn a STAB move until level 19, so it'll be a slog until then. Thankfully we have some cool Pokemon to help with that, such as Umbreoff, who will be our main companion up this mountain.

One down. NINETY NINE TO GO.

If you want to give up your challenge midway, you can go back to the most recent checkpoint, so at least you don't have to backtrack.

Mt. Battle isn't too bad to get through, you're healed inbetween each battle and you can use items as much as you want and the Pokemon start off pretty weak, so you're free to use whatever you want. But it is a big time investment, so be prepared if you wanna climb it. I never bothered doing so in my previous playthroughs, since I knew I would be showing it for the LP, so this is brand new content for me! I obviously know everything about this place, I'm the LPer after all, bitch!

Since we know what Umbreoff can do, let's switch it up. I'll be using one main Pokemon for the challenge (Pikachu? this time, Umbreoff for the rest) and then five Shadow Pokemon that get four battles to strut their stuff. Should be a fun time! Leraika offered (yet another) nickname.

Strutting their stuff usually means using their attacking moves to take out the weak opponents. What can I say, I'm a hyper offense kinda guy, screw status moves (though they are very good in this game).

Pikachu? will continue doing her thing and Medea is pretty standard. Not enough battles to show off the wonky AI though, sorry!

I don't like Fly, but I like all the birds chilling there.

Got some nice levels, but we're only halfway to Spark. We're also at the tenth battle, let's go.

Vander is gonna go all out! Which considering he's the first Area Leader we face... doesn't mean much.

Maybe this area starts a bit too weak.

Area Leaders have five Pokemon of a certain type, so they're the closest this region has to Gym Leaders. We'll see if any of them get as tricky.

Nice pull.

Now, go on. Someone will give you POKECOUPONS in the BREAK ROOM.

Mt. Battle Break Room

Woo, we're now 1/35th of the way towards a reasonable TM. So yeah, the reward isn't great, but once you clear an area, you can head back to it at any time to get the reward again by just facing the same ten trainers. It's a bit of a grind, but hey, it's something.

Otherwise, there's a PC and you can resume your challenge from the entrance whenever you want. It's pretty good! Shame it'll take like five hours to finish this place...

Area 2! It's not much tougher.

This certainly isn't quick, I'll tell you that much.

But starting with battle 12, let's try out Milkweed! Nickname by... L-Leraika. It's n-not like I like them or anything!!!

When you need Grass STAB, then Skiploom is your pick, but he'll just never have the stats to deal decent damage. I say, using an underlevelled Plusle with no STAB.

Oh thank god

Now we can sweep through the last four battles, since our last choice is Flareon and it's, well, an Entei. Nickname by Blaze Dragon.

Alright, will the next Area Leader offer a challenge?

Noooooooooooooooooope

Pikachu? just knocked out a Pokemon in one hit. She's a monster now.

I haven't battled this hard for a long time. Oh, it was fun, all right! Go get your POKECOUPONS in the BREAK ROOM.

Pikachu? got 8 levels in that venture, and while it would be kinda cool seeing how strong she'd get from climbing the whole mountain, we already have Umbreon for all our Electric attacking needs, so Umbreoff will offer more variety.

We're nowhere near finished with Mt. Battle, but the story must continue and next time, it's into a large complex. I'm gonna go stock up!

Roar makes sense to include since it works in trainer battles and, theoretically, you could swap out one of their pokemon for a potentially better match up, break up their combos or bring in the shadow pokemon in early.

I mean, no one will, but it's an option

Should've put this at the end of the next update, but I did decide on what Pokemon I'd be using for Mt. Battle Areas 5-6 and they were Pokemon that we already know about, so we don't have to wait until next update.

So I'll be using Stantler, Ledian, Hitmontop, Sneasel and Suicune, gimme your names for them!

I'm not sure why you say Suicune, I can only see a Vaporeon.

Also Ledian should be the Electrowave Human, Tackle. And Stantler...Who?
