I kinda wonder how much they’ll care about the tables that aren’t making them money anymore. They update and it breaks tables then what’s the incentive to fix it?

Honestly I don't see Farsighted continuing as a business after their main source of income is cutoff. I'm sure they're getting a bump from this not-even-a-sale but it's not like anyone's using that shitshow of a Stern app.

Yeah. I have all the tables in iOS and Steam but that's from years of waiting on sales and whatnot. I expect no continued support of anything from Farsight, pretty much treating this as "get Pinball Arcade before it's dead."

I dunno if it'll be a full-on application MERGE or whatever, but it sounds like their next step is releasing Stern tables in base TPA. After that, though? God only knows. What a long, weird journey it's been.

It seems weird me to that FarSight would just lose the Williams license straight up. Doesn’t it seem likely that someone else has it going forward? Who though?

They license out Bally and Williams tables for re-release too don't they? Just thinking that maybe they're under the wrongheaded assumption that having virtual tables will make people less likely to buy the Special Edition physical tables or whatever? I mean it sounds stupid but we're not dealing with logical people here.

Ah, I thought the slot machine company bought out Williams/Bally way earlier. I just remember reading the wiki page where it said they moved into slot machines back in like the 90's/00's so I assumed the buyout happened around then.

Zaphod42 posted:What's the easiest way to find cabinets to download? When I say cabinet I mean I built a full size virtual pinball cabinet. You need to download visual pinball 10.5 or later and then the tables are easy enough to find. Note: Visual pinball is not the most user friendly thing to setup and get running.

Yeah, despite VP Forums still sort of being the mother site, Monsterbash Pincab seems to be the place where the best table makers are releasing their stuff. Luckily I managed to snag their Ghostbusters table off of there before it was pulled, after Farsight got all litigious.

Is there anywhere left to grab the Ghostbusters files? I didn't think farsight would bother with a takedown since you have to buy their table for the dll files anyway
|
# ? Jun 24, 2018 04:58 |
|
Nah, you didn't need to buy the table for the dll, you just had to download the game from Steam. There's nowhere that will officially host the file now after the takedown, got PM's?
|
# ? Jun 24, 2018 06:30 |

Oh dang. That makes the takedown more understandable, I wish they could compromise somehow though. I do have PMs!

So I'm FINALLY starting to figure out multipliers and stuff on Star Wars, thanks largely to some guy who kind of showed me how it works. We played a couple of games yesterday...I was definitely better at making shots than he was, but he managed the stupid multipliers so well he kicked my rear end. Does anyone 1) have a good approach to not draining off of the target bank, and 2) a good sequence to max multipliers without having to constantly adjust things? My sequence now is to use Han, +5 tie fighters, get tie fighter hurry up, load up hoth, load up multipliers to 20x, shoot hoth and do the asteroid field, then do the same with video mode (hopefully with a 40x multiplier), usually with a tie fighter multiball in there somewhere. This usually puts me over a billion, but I ALWAYS lose a ball or two to the stupid bank DTFM.

They just yanked the Pinball Arcade season packs from Steam, but you can still buy them if you have money in your steam wallet and buy them from inside the game itself.

Pinball Arcade got an update for PS4 to version 1.26 and they took off the Bally and Williams tables. They now have... Gottlieb pack 1: Big Hurt, Genie, Gladiators, Haunted House, Lights Camera Action, Victory - $9.99 Gottlieb pack 2: Wipeout, Rescue 911, Bone Busters, Black Hole, El Dorado City of Gold, Goin' Nuts - $9.99 Gottlieb pack 3: Teed Off, Cue Ball Wizard, Class of 1812, Cactus Jacks, TX-Sector - $8.99 Gottlieb pack 4: Big Shot, Centigrade 37, Central Park, El Dorado, Jacks Open - $8.99 Stern Pack 1: Flight 2000, Mary Shelley's Frakenstein, Ripley's Believe it or Not!, Starship Troopers, Star Trek Vengeance Premium, AC/DC Premium - $19.99 Stern Pack 2: High Roller Casino, Last Action Hero, Harley Davidson 3rd Edition, Phantom of the Opera, Mustang Premium, Ghostbusters Premium - $19.99 Alvin G Pack: Al's Garage Band Goes on a World Tour, Pistol Poker - $7.99 Dr. Who Master of Time - $9.99 and Custom Balls: Glow ball pack $1.99, Dr. Who ball Pack $1.99, Gottlieb Ball Pack $1.99, Gottlieb Retro Pack $0.99, Stern Ball Pack 1 $1.99, Farsight ball pack $1.99 So it looks deserted now. I searched for the old tables on the PSN store and was able to buy The Getaway and the Pinbot/Centaur pack.

So they already folded Stern’s Star Trek, AC/DC, and Mustang into the regular TPA client? I wonder if they’re available on the Steam one, too. It’s not much help to me, Ghostbusters runs like crap on my laptop and I can’t imagine the other tables being any better.

there is a fix for ghostbusters but you have to do it every time you run the game. you set your processor affinity for pinball arcade to 1 core and then back to normal and it clears up the choppiness. also i didnt notice the new sterns in there. i guess if i want them i need to buy them individually through the game since i already have 90% of each bundle

I spent like 40 dollars on Pinball Arcade tables recently where if there weren't a deadline I would've strung that out over years, possibly decades.. So, I dunno, losing the license SUCKS but, like, maybe it's good for Farsight? If I owned that company I'd take the windfall and bail out and live comfortably and not give a fuckall. also here's my hot take from a person who has spent an inordinate amount of time considering what tables to buy before they're gone: Adams Family, Star Trek: TNG and Twilight Zone suck rear end.

Addams family is a legit bad game with the magnets in because playing it in a try hard fashion is boring as gently caress, but putting twilight zone on that list is unforgivable
