BrianBoitano posted:I'd add a bit to this explanation. To do the trick, you first dip the dollar in water, then dip in rubbing alcohol. There ends up being a soaked-in-water dollar with a thin layer of high-proof alcohol. The alcohol burns easily and at a high temperature, but as you say the heat required to vaporize the water from the dollar is greater. And that teacher... was Albert Einstein. (sorry, I couldn't resist, that is a cute story )

Well, it looks like the UK Tory government, after over a year of hemming and hawing over what their 'incredible' deals they would make after having being free of the E.U. have now submitted their agreed proposal on leaving the E.U., i.e. surrendering to effectively all demands and getting very little in return, which will probably be renegotiated to getting nowt in return. And the psycho Brexiteer ministers have shut up. For once in their lives.

I laughed so hard when the Brexit vote came through. Livestreaming British Pound exchange rate websites between calls while working in the back of an ambulance. "It's down to $0.80!" I'd yell up to my partner driving in the front cab. "This is the dumbest thing any country has ever done in my life!" Then, not too long afterwards, the United States, my United States, held their own vote for something.

Is there any chance of Brexit just being cancelled if the right people are in charge, or was that vote so binding that nothing can be done?

The vote itself was never binding: a referendum is just a popularity poll. Brexit is happening because the PM started the processes to exit with the EU which doesn't have an 'abort' button.

That is not necessarily true. According to Donal Tusk (President of the European Council) the UK can simply reverse the triggering of article 50 at any point (up until actually leaving obviously). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39291512 Brexit is happening because a weak prime minister (A career-long political mediocrity who got the nod as PM because all the other candidates self destructed) doesnt have the guts to stand up to the members of her own party who will make a shitload of money when brexit tanks the UK economy. It is a spectacular act of national self harm which can all be traced back to internal tory party spats. I mean, it almost certainly WONT be reversed because the loudest voices in the tory party are pro brexit (and even those that arent are TERRIFIED of losing their core "old and quietly racist" voters to UKIP) and the Labour party have the oipposite situation where Corbin is personally pro brexit (although for ideological reasons rather than your Rhyss-Mogg personal gain reasons) despite most of his party wanting to remain. The one and only bright spot for me is that when we leave the EU it might finally lead to Scottish Independence. But thats a lot of years off and hardly a sure thing either. Whole thing is a massive clusterfuck.

The Attitude Era is arguably the "best" wrestling has been, business wise, and there were a lot of factors to it. SiKboy posted:Corbin is personally pro brexit gently caress, this myth annoys the poo poo out of me. Corbyn appeared at more pro-Remain events than any other front-bench MP of any party, voted Remain, and has (unlike just about any other politician, journalist, or gobby Twitter personality) retained a consistent, reasoned and principled position on the situation - as an internationalist he's absolutely in favour of the principle of the EU, as a socialist he sees the current institution as the neoliberal protection racket he is, as a democrat he finds himself bound to support the idea of Brexit at least but to hold the Tories to account, and as someone with a functioning brain he knows outright opposing Brexit will stop the Tory party tearing itself apart. Ironically at this point the only thing that *has* stopped the Tories business wing quietly knifing the swivel-eyed loons, taking the loss at the next election and regrouping, is Corbyn's existence - they fear that an actual socialist in power in the UK rather than the Blairite corporate-dick-sucking-machines is a far greater existential threat to them than the hellworld that happens if we go out. This is why you see so many "centrists" loudly screaming that a political situation that came about because the party in power threw the dice and lost in an attempt to quieten down their own internal fighting, and are now about to drag us into the biggest self-inflicted political catastrophe in history because they're still unable to resolve those internal tensions, is all the fault of the quiet jam granddad who is leader of the Opposition, a group that by literal definition are unable to change the course of the Government.
