Just a paranoid stab in the dark, but what if Gina Rinehartan anonymous billionaire promised the right faction an all-expenses paid election campaign as long as Peter and Tony were running things? It's probably not that but it makes more sense than an insane compaction cycle that leaves them representing cattalaxyfiles.com.

The IPA's 75th anniversary party was held just before the attempted spill so we have some very current quotes from rinehart:

quote:

Also expressing effusive praise for the US President (not that that's a surprise) was key IPA patron Gina Rinehart, who sent along a message urging Australia to adopt the US' policies.

"Under President Trump's leadership, free enterprise policies that promote economic growth and reduce the size and cost of government are doing more to help the underprivileged in the United States than eight years of big government and socialist policies," she said.

Murdoch was also there saying effectively the same thing. It's a direct condemnation of the last eight years of LNP leadership, and pretty much confirmation that they are all in on trying to sell a strong man nativist. Even the fact that no federal members were invited is telling. Abbott at least is often invited to these things.

Plus both Murdoch and Rinehart comments came from "journalist" and current IPA director Janet Albrechtsen, noted for this quote earlier this year:

quote:

At the end of last year I was told that I wouldn’t be renewed on the board of the National Museum even though I’d been told by the relevant minister that I was going to be renewed.
“And then I heard that Malcolm Turnbull had said, ‘Well, I can’t possibly — why would I reappoint her? She is an enemy of mine.’

Oh yeah they're into that alright. You should see their climate denialism, it's choice.

If you need a laugh, here's Dopey Downer in the AFR and his amazing idea of a "story" which he pushed again on ABC PM last night:

quote:

On the basis of what we know, the Liberal Party should be able to win the election: the economy is going well, the country's at peace and urgent social and environmental issues are being addressed.

But to win an election in a Western democracy requires more than good economic data. There's very little truth in the Clintonian slogan "It's the economy, stupid." People don't vote for statistics. They vote based on how they feel. Successful politicians are more than good policy analysts. Leaders, to use a phrase, "ring the chimes in the hearts of the people".

So here's the challenge for the Liberals. They have to develop an inspiring story about where they're going to take the country. They won't find that story in focus groups and quantitative polling. They won't inspire the public with a fusillade of cliches about listening and delivering. They need to produce a quite emotional story about Australia and where it needs to go.

An inspiring story will make people notice. It will play to their emotions. Australians love Australia. They care for the country and they care for it's people. So it's no political crime to put Australia first.

There are many lols, not least his sadness that Lateline was axed.

I'm enjoying the IPA disappearing up its own irrelevant rear end in a top hat out of the mistaken belief that lobbying is a one way street.

The overwhelming majority of Australians do not want a US style system. That applies to health, welfare, government, the administration, gun rights, employment conditions, the election of public servants down to a pathetically low level etc.

We have a better country than the US by almost every metric that works on a per-capita basis. We would be idiots to want to change that, and every time somebody has given it a solid go they've ended up on their rear end.

So yeah, the IPA and their benefactors openly declaring support for the least popular president in US history, as well as a desire to adopt policies that a majority amount of the US are desperate to overturn is just fine, as all it will do is marginalise them and cause politicians to keep their distance.

There's a lot of stuff about how Flight Centre are exploiting employees, but the parties sound awful

quote:

For many, the party culture at Flight Centre represents something of a pay-off for the long hours and low pay.
"The parties are insane — they are amazing," one Flight Centre staff member told the ABC.
There's the all-but mandatory booze-soaked "buzz nights". Held in pubs, restaurants and function spaces, the unpaid monthly events offer a chance to boast for those who have hit sales targets and are known to devolve into sexually-charged hard-drinking sessions.
The nature of buzz nights varies depending on the store, but those who don't attend are reportedly frowned upon and asked for a compelling reason for their absence.
"You are required to go to these staff nights, but I dreaded them," Ms Little said.
"There'd be new starters who they'd introduce to the whole group.
"In my area, when you were introduced, you either had to tell a joke, tell a funny story — which usually had to be quite dirty — or you had to flash. Not men, women.
"You'd have men in the back-row howling like fools."

It’s not hard to point out that there is an ideological alignment of english speaking billionaires across the planet all promoting violent nativist movements in order to pollute the planet, cut safety and worker rights, cut social services, and funnel that money into tax breaks and cushy government contracts. A snap Roy Morgan poll, to be released tomorrow, suggests Malcolm Turnbull remains the preferred prime minister over Bill Shorten. But it also suggests Shorten is preferred to Peter Dutton.

It polled a cross-section of more than 1,200 voters. Key results are:

Malcolm Turnbull was preferred as the PM (52%) Shorten (44.5%). A further 3.5% were undecided.
Shorten (59%) rates above Dutton (36.5%). A further 4.5% can’t say.

quote:

Now The ABC understand one of those other frontbenchers has insisted his resignation be accepted, putting more pressure on Mr Turnbull as he fights for his job.

It is not clear yet if it will spark more Ministers or assistant ministers to join him in finally quitting.

More resignations would be a sign Mr Turnbull's position is further weakened.
