RyokoTK posted:It’s more just that terminal apathy is comedy poison and it belongs in the D&D abattoir forever. Apathy and nihilistic whining are poison to everything. Stop publicly celebrating the fact that you're sad and have given up, all it's gonna do is make you more sad and cement your surrender. I'm genuinely tired of how prevalent this seems to have become, and how some people are treating it as a cutesy wacky meme.

It was a joke. Everyone call down. On subject, the trumpkins at his rally yesterday were chanting "lock her up", mere hours after two people close to Trump were convicted of actual, real crimes, and Graham has said he doesn't care that Cohen linked Trump to a federal crime. I'm just hoping that Cohen's plea will open the door on new targets, seeing as he is the first person in Trump's circle to be found guilty of a crime directly related to the election. It's like the line about how millennials constantly joke about wanting to die. A good portion of this meme is dealing with the fact that a lot of us actually do want to die and that's scary, so we want to laugh at it Nihilism as a meme or joke is usually an attempt to process overwhelming despair and there's an absolute gently caress ton of overwhelming despair in, honestly, most people, for a few years now.

I know it's not politics or nihilism related but a quick PSA: Hey, *sits in chair backwards* round bales are loving crazy heavy and if they start rolling somehow please get away. Also. Don't park your truck in high, dry grass, because it'll start a fire. I lost almost 20 round bales to fire last year. The fire department came out and we used a backhoe and a bulldozer to push them into a pond. So in conclusion: don't live on a farm.

Nihilism is a valid ethos IMO since I think it just means you don't believe in gods or that we are part of some master plan. We make our own destiny.

Cause you can't always have perfect control, or sometimes any control, over the way you feel and fighting tooth and nail against your own brains best efforts to destroy you is the background noise of my life. It's exhausting and sometimes you have to stop and laugh at it. Sometimes you want to normalize your suffering because you're just so tired of being abnormal. If it's normal and you know lots of people are feeling the same way it becomes a little less terrifying. It's probably not the healthiest coping mechanism but it ain't exactly the healthiest world we live in.

It'd end up being an obstruction of justice charge for him because that would be interfering with a trial or investigation. Tampering with a witness, I think. Basically at that point they wouldn't need to investigate him for anything else, they'd have the impeachable charge just right there.

The schad's gonna be on all of us when Trump pardons Manafort. I work with Trump supporters and a common theme with them is "I don't care what he says; I like what he's done." I don't believe in engaging further discussion because I would rather maintain my sanity (and also it's only so much wasted breath trying to debate them), but I hear that and I think to myself, "What the gently caress has he DONE, other than hold And the most frightening part to me is that my coworkers are probably pretty representative of Trumplodytes as a whole.

Trump already pardoned Joe Arpaio and Dinesh Dsouza. All these guys are going free. Though Michael Cohen might actually be hosed judging from Trump's tweet about him being a bad lawyer.

Stupid_Sexy_Flander posted:Nope, I severely doubt it. It'd end up being an obstruction of justice charge for him because that would be interfering with a trial or investigation. The pardon power can by definition interfere with a trial and an investigation. Ford pardoned Nixon, who hadn't even been charged with any crimes. The use of the pardon power cannot be obstruction of justice. The President can pardon someone in the middle of a trial if he wants to, there is no Constitutional limitation on it other than that it only applies to Federal crimes. Stupid_Sexy_Flander posted:Basically at that point they wouldn't need to investigate him for anything else, they'd have the impeachable charge just right there. An impeachable charge is whatever a majority of the House says is one. Impeachment is a political process, not a criminal one.

Isn't there also the issue where if Trump pardons someone and they accept they can no longer please the 5th to avoid incriminating themselves and can be compelled to testify on instances where they helped someone else commit a crime? No longer any good for Cohen, but Manafort has maintained his innocence and clammed up right?

Yes, that's generally correct, and you can refuse a pardon if you want to maintain your 5th amendment privilege against self-incrimination. But the limitation of the pardon power to Federal crimes works both ways here; if your conduct could also expose you to state prosecution, then even if you're pardoned for the Federal charge you could still incriminate yourself to state charges and hence are still protected by the 5th amendment.
