I would follow a series about Waver, a kid from a new Mage family having to prove to the stuffy upper crust that he's worth something.

Much more interesting and comprehensible premise than Red Hair's arc.

Which Grand Order movie is good? Wikipedia is saying there's 2 by Lay-Duce, 1 by ufotable, and 2 by Production IG.

There's literally only the First Order OVA right now. The Camelot movie by IG is still under development (still haven't even announced staff to my knowledge), the Babylon series by CloverWorks is still in development, and the ufotable movie is for Heaven's Feel, unrelated to FGO.

Oh turns out what wikipedia called a "movie" for Fate Grand Order by ufotable is just an animated short called "Fate/Grand Order × Himuro no Tenchi - 7-nin no Saikyou Ijin-hen"

I guess the mobile game is making tons of money if it already has a tv series and 2 movies planned?

FGO has been making so much money type moon literally doesn’t know what to do with it. That’s why we’re getting projects like Emiya Gohan. It has its own separate entry on Sony’s earning reports.

I mean, they are working on it, if Nasu's to be believed, but unlike literally everything else they can't just license their intellectual property, pay a bunch of people and ride the way to profit. VNs are Type Moon's sole fully in-house product.

Good news, if you liked First Order (Caster Cu is the best!) they’re making a movie and series out of what are considered two of Grand Order’s best story chapters, Camelot and Babylon.

NA/global FGO already has Camelot and will be getting Babylon in a couple months. Camelot was pretty dang good. I can’t wait for animated Bedivere.

Caster Cu was awesome yes. I look forward to more fate series.

Whatever happened to the guy who did the original illustrations for the Fate visual novel? Did he get better so he's now able to make work that fits with their increased profile and budget? Or did they jettison him once they had the budget for better visuals?

He got paid lots of money because he was one of the two big brains behind FSN and he basically runs Type-Moon alongside Nasu.

Wasn’t it Takeuchi who did the art? Isn’t he now company president and also still doing a fair number of characters and key visuals and such for FGO? If anything he’s overworked at this point.

Also, he still draws, and now he can do plenty of funny faces and junk. Here's an end-card that he did for gag anime D-Frag! a couple of years ago.

Plus, he still does FGO character designs. Sakura Saber is probably my fave "newer" design of his.

Takeuchi has done like 30 different character designs for FGO. And even the assistants on FSN have done their own art for FGO. I'm pretty sure the composers still work on the game too, as do all the assistant writers from F/HA.

James Harris and Haga Keita both are the two main composers of FGO still, yeah. Delight Works has its own sound team, but they only do a few songs.

good end card here too, a crossover of moonphase anime (also of note: takeuchi's colorist gruntman for 15 years)

Nasu and Takeuchi are also childhood friends as I understand it and Takeuchi was the one who originally encouraged Nasu to bring his writing to a wider audience. They seem pretty inseparable.
e:

quote:

Takeuchi pulled Nasu to the second floor and told Nasu to not remain self-satisfied within his circle of friends and think further about his talent, to Nasu, it shocked him, because those words given by Takeuchi to him was interpreted as this: "この美しい黄金の夕焼けと比べればお前はどうなんだ (lit. What are you when compared to this beautiful golden sunset)"

Yeah, afaik they're basically platonic life partners. IIRC Takeuchi even financially supported both of them while Nasu was concentrating on finishing Tsukihime.

Nasu and Takeuchi's success always makes me feel happy, from going to making niche porn visual novels with good writing to hitting the big time and becoming filthy rich 10 years or so later. It was also really cool to see how much Takeuchi has improved since Tsukihime too.

Okay I'm most of the way through the Unlimited Blade Works first season after approaching this series wrong by watching the Heaven's Feel movie first (although I had watched Fate Zero back in 2012 or so). This is more like it! Lots of good fights, which go on longer and look even better than the ones in Zero. A bit of stupidity in terms of letting bad guys escape and not finishing off other characters as a way to extend the plot and try to milk suspense but overall I'm enjoying it about the same as I did Fate Zero. I'll probably also enjoy the future Fate HF movies more after I finish watching this.

I like how Rin is a competent mage and can actually use some pretty fearsome spells. Makes the whole thing seem less like a pokemon fight with heroic spirits if the masters also get in on the action.
