Untrustable posted:Is there a new way to do zombie movies? No one has come at it from a new angle in a long time. I liked Fido but that was like 12 years ago. I'm trying hard to think or something interesting or original in zombie horror from the last 10 years and I can't remember anything super good. Except Savageland. Even though that movie's premise could have worked with any kind of horror movie creature. Yeah, nothing groundbreaking has happened to the zombie genre in a while. Pontypool came close! I think Zombie In A Penguin Suit is pretty unique. It's 7 minutes, and I could spend 80 minutes with something like that.

Pontypool, Girl With All The Gifts, and Endzeit were a few newish takes on zombie/rage monsters that I enjoyed. Altered Skin is also not bad, and is unique enough by setting the story in Pakistan.

Halloween Jack posted:Milla Jovovich is really not qualified to be an action star. (No less so than plenty of men who star in action movies, I should add.) It’s really bizarre to consider that she’s arguably one of the most successful action movie stars of the last 15 years when you take into consideration the success of the RE franchise. But it’s like some kind of illusion, where if you try to examine the substance of that concept it just like, optically camouflages. And yeah, Fran’s right; Zombie In A Penguin suit is dope as heck.

Mine is a better version of The House's October Built. I still don't think it's horrible but it does a poor job of building dread.

Therez this website I stumbled upon where people have set up webcams all around their house and get paid to be watched 24/7. Turns out it’s mostly a porn thing where you gotta pay to see the bedroom cameras and they all have a lot of sex, but that would make for a cool slasher movie. Especially if you can control what cameras you’re watching and it all plays out in real time, but I guess at a certain point it’s just Night Trap

flashy_mcflash posted:I feel like once you've seen Roar, you're spoiled for animal attack movies after that. Nothing is ever going to stack up to the pure hell insanity of that production, or at least that was my experience. How can you go back to CG animals, or even ones done with practical effects, after watching those real-rear end untamed lions go buckwild on Melanie Griffith and her family? I tend to like the typical story beats of those kinds of movies, watching the characters figure out what's going on, why it's happening, and whether or not they're able to deal. So while all that real carnage makes for a crazy viewing experience, Roar is a total disappointment given what I usually want out of a killer animal movie. And since the cats were totally untrained, all their random marauding doesn't have any kind of flow. It's worth watching only because of how insane the entire production was. Basebf555 posted:Anyone here ever seen Burning Bright? It's a horror/thriller about a woman trapped in a house with a Bengal Tiger, I've read some good things about it but never had the chance to see it. It's a paid rental right now in Amazon. That's on my list of stuff to watch, but I keep hoping it'll show up on one of the streaming services. I mostly pay for rentals on movies I've already seen but don't want to buy a copy of, maybe because there are already so many new-to-me movies on Shudder or Prime Video or whatever.

Congo is actually a movie I'd like to see a UHD release for, that hippo scene is a prime example of where it would benefit from HDR and as much as people mock the ape effects in that movie they're all practical so in 4k they'd still look the same as they always have.
