Totally getting a switch and ultimate on my next check though As far as I know, though I don't have Ultimate for myself yet and don't remember much of Smash 4, there are no more Final Smashes that transform the character for like a minute, they're all just one-and-done super attacks. Also there's a game setting to make Final Smashes charge up like a super meter, instead of (well, in addition to, but you can disable the item) the randomess of Smash Balls.

Yeah it's absolutely not an exact comparison. I just don't know why but turning off final smashes always irritated me for some reason in Brawl. It's like turning off items or fun obstacle filled arenas. It just feels wrong. But that comes down to personal opinion

Final Smashes are a designed part of a character and part of their balance, though, so not including them skews things. In Brawl, for example, Meta-Knight's FS was basically useless because that was one of the counterbalances for his kit being so good. Without Final Smashes, though, he just ends up better for it, because he didn't get much from it anyway. The FS meter works really well so it's not actually luck-based, but also yeah, FSes have been normalized a ton in Ultimate so nobody's is crazy good or bad.

Speaking of Fatalities, I don't give a poo poo about them at this point and never do them after maybe seeing them once. They were fun back in the day because there weren't many games doing that kind of stuff (and even fewer of those were good) and because they looked so hokey with the digitized graphics and bright red pixelated blood. Now it's all dark and gritty and desaturated and you get to see the opponent struggle for their life and every overly prolonged animation is presented at a surgical level of detail (this is probably how the fatalities in the original games looked to our parents at the time ), and after ten games plus a million rereleases/spinoffs I just don't care anymore, I just want to get to the next fight and lose to the next online player. I liked how MKX did Brutalities, though, by making them into these crazy death blows that end the match immediately.

My favorite way to play smash, especially in a group setting, is time mode with all the stages and items. You get all the silly stuff that makes the game fun and no one has to feel left out if they get knocked out early. Especially nice if players are of different skill levels.

Final Smashes are aggravating in adventure mode and classic. Since you get 1 life, depending on who it is and if you take as little as 30% damage its a "gently caress you, you're dead" move as it takes up the entire arena and flings you off at mach 5.

Yeah; Solid Snake's was basically a minute long waste of time where youd have to cooperate with the snake player to die while any starfox character was guaranteed to not only kill every single other opponent, if they were fast enough they could unavoidably kill players as they respawned in and were still invulnerable to damage.

Final smashes are actually weaker if the meter is on, and I can think of a example that seems really strong until you learn a trick to it: Zelda has a final smash that sucks everyone in the map towards it for a bit and when it captures someone it can instantly kill anyone over 80% or so. However, if you block it also reduces the strength of stuff like the gust jar or Zeldas final smash. With that being said, there are certainly smashes that feel straight up stronger than any other ones, like bowsers, which i don't think can actually be dodged most of the time, or the inklings killer wail, which is basically a big laser beam but it can be turned rather quickly and the inkling can move the entire time its active.

The new EDF game is great - you shoot giant bugs, ragdoll all over the place, huge explosions and chaos, great stuff. There is a class called the Wing Diver in the game - basically, an all-female team of jetpackers. When you start the game, you're a civilian who's basically thrust into the war by accident. You look like someone who went to work, picked up a prototype jetpack, and now you're in poo poo. Slacks, shirt, whatever. What I really liked about this, what that previous depections of the Wing Diver are...well, skeezy to say the least. Basically an entirely-female team of women dressed with jetpack boob armor and a thong. But now, pants! Awesome! Then you join the EDF proper and...well, at least the giant cleavage hole is gone. Still got the thong though, guess that's official EDF equipment.

Dragon's Crown I can't believe only the Dwarf in Dragon's Crown can through people. It just feels so off to not be able to do the same for everyone. The giant boulders being Dwarf exclusive would be fine but it still just feels off to me to not be able to pick anyone up as at least the Fighter or Amazon. Also I've managed to actually get far enough that I've gotta collect talismans and unlocked the stable as far as the story goes but I'm now discovering new moves at like 17 that're only just unlocking and I wish they were just available from the beginning and the leveling up was just to make them better. And again, story being tied to character absolutely sucks. I don't want to repeat the entire game all over again if I want to try the Wizard out! That poo poo sucked in Borderlands and it sucks here still. Morpheus posted:The new EDF game is great - you shoot giant bugs, ragdoll all over the place, huge explosions and chaos, great stuff. I just bought two used copies of Animal Crossing New Leaf because the fiancee wanted to play it and I'm down for picking the game back up. One of the copies was already factory reset which is a little disappointing. I wanted to see what these old abandoned hellscapes looked like. The one that wasn't reset doesn't even have more than just peach trees too which means I'm going to have to reset the drat thing repeatedly to get all the fruit. Fuckers.

Len posted:I don't understand turning off Final Smash because it feels like turning off fatalities. I don't know about the new one, but in the previous games final smashes sucked because they weren't at all like fatalities. A fatality was a cool thing you did after a match. A final smash was literally just a free kill given to losing opponents after you beat them a couple of times, except when the smash ball appeared - in which case it just became a free kill for whoever hit it last. I love smash's gameplay but the last game in particular has an annoying abundance of things that were just "and it just kills you" which made playing single player more frustrating than fun. Mach started and like half the items spawn in the opponent's hands? Enjoy the free death.

yet another Smash Ultimate gripe I feel like a lot of these higher-end Spirits fights were not play tested. Pauline, for example, puts you on the original Donkey Kong (1981) stage where you have a minute and a half to defeat Peach, who runs away endlessly. Not a problem until wedding suit mario jumps in with a hammer, not too hard to dodge, and then the fat bastard known as Gigantic DK comes in to ruin the fight even harder. Now you have to fight a super-powered DK and an annoying mario, even though your real target is Peach, who you will never ever kill unless she falls off the stage ten seconds into the fight. Also, the stopwatch item spawns a lot here, and if you don't know what it does, it slows down every fighter that didn't pick it up, but because the three opponents in this match are on the same team, it means only you (and you alone) will be effected by it, unless you get really lucky and the slow effect backfires on the bastards. also that backfire thing can happen to you if you pick the watch up. Some legendary spirits are bullshit until you realize that one character can easily cheese it like the Dr. Wily fight where you fight about eight metal megamans (two at a time) in a stamina battle, with the fight ending with a Dr Mario jumping in to fight. It's just about impossible until you realize that Ness and Lucas can absorb Megaman's projectiles that aren't the metal blade, for free HP. the challenge is gone at that point, just PK Thunder yourself to victory. Some legendary spirit fights are stupidly easy. Oh no, it's zero suit samus in a stamina match, whatever will i do? to make this fight more perilous, the floor is poison. let me just equip my "ignore the poison stage" spirit negates that part of the battle, so it's really just a fight against a high CPU samus with a tight time limit and oh look I won the fight on my second try. final complaint: i got the master giant/beast/sword to make the master core, and it is utter poo poo. Neutral spirit, decent stats, three slots, and you start the battle with 30% damage. Not even any buff to go along with the penalty like some spirits do. my main gripe here is more that the master giant was easily my best grab type spirit and had better stats spit on my clit has a new favorite as of 08:21 on Dec 15, 2018 |

loving system updates every third time I boot up my console. Jesus Christ. Also, waiting for a game to install, launching it and then being told that it too needs an update to play. Anymore, I install a game, go start dinner and take a shower, then come back and update the game and go take out the trash or something. Then I come back to play it; that is if my console didn't put itself to sleep during the install/updates. Last night my kid wanted to watch YouTube on my XBone and we waited for the system update. Then it moved my YT app off of my pinned apps and he couldn't find it. Then YouTube needed an update. I used to think having to blow into an NES cartridge was inconvenient. My phone does the same poo poo. Update it and yes, please, kindly reset all my settings, Verizon. I was getting tired of these devices working exactly the way I wanted them to and having my new unread messages bolded on my app icon.

Xbox will at least do it for anything that you’ve manually queued for download, you just have to set it to “instant-on” mode instead of “energy-saving” in the power and startup settings. I’m not sure if it auto-downloads new updates or just the ones you’re already downloading when you turn it off, though.
