Attacking anyone is bullshit but attacking Lisa is double bullshit because she's like the nicest person ever. I think she's subbed for every team at the rink at some point.

I can't think of anything it would take for me to get so mad at a low-level hockey game to where I would attack someone with my stick.

I asked one of the guys on Iron Kitty who was in the game about it. Here’s what he said: “...the dude just lost his poo poo. He took a swing at Lisa, then got booted and kept arguing with the ref. The best was he walked over to our bench and tried to start poo poo and then went in the stands. The rest of Dad Bodz apologized up and down for his actions. I don’t think we will see that guy again, never argue or get in the face of a ref.”

When I was in high school someone two handed one of my teammates on the head. Concussed him for sure. I don't think any charges were ever brought with it and I can't remember what discipline the player faced. This would have been in the early 2000's so back then I feel like stuff like that was not punished as severely as it would now.

Ginette Reno posted:When I was in high school someone two handed one of my teammates on the head. Concussed him for sure. Oh gently caress yeah. poo poo like that now is met with your own team mates going "what the gently caress dude". Nobody wants to play with somebody like that on your own team, let alone on another. And really the league needs to set a firm disciplinary standard for that poo poo. You can't tolerate that behavior as that's how serious injuries occur. I mean, during the hearing maybe the guy can make the case he's going through some things if he is. Maybe a divorce or family member died, he wasn't getting sleep and work stress has all got to him. Then he states he's realized he's sort of lost it and is now actively seeking therapy to help himself mentally. If that's the case I'd be on board with done for the season. Then, maybe, come back after a note from your therapist saying he has been given tools to address his anger issues and has been showing constant improvement then maybe let him back in next season. If he trots in like "gently caress that player and gently caress the refs this was bullshit" then I'd say suspend him for life. You can't have that kind of uncontrolled temper out there in a physical sport like hockey where you get your adrenaline going that hard and can get that exhausted and make stupid decisions.

Life's too short to deal with people like that and they're only going to end up seriously hurting someone. It amazes me that a grown adult can be filled with so much rage that during a game of recreational hockey they see no other option but to two hand tomahawk someone over the head with their stick as a viable means of "solving the problem". That dude needs to be gone forever. I don't care what the gently caress they're dealing with, how they saw the play, what led to it etc. Clearly the dude can't handle stressful/emotional situations and he's got rage issues. I think its one thing to equally square off with someone and drop the gloves (I don't think I would ever do it) but I understand it. But blatantly chopping someone in the head with your stick is intentionally trying to injure and you should be gone. I've seen it too many times in all levels of hockey I've played and all forms (from pickup to league, ice to floor and inline). Some people just have that rage switch that the moment it clicks, there's no coming back from it and they're in full attack mode.

I always assume that chances are somebody like that isn't just pissed about something on the ice or whatever. They're probably having the worst day of their lives or something and this is the final straw. Like those public freakout videos, I don't think it's the McDonald's employee that really set them off so much as maybe their dog just died or their wife just miscarried or something and this thing just set them off. I dunno, I just generally hope people are able to function to a point where a perceived cross-check or something doesn't result in a literal assault with a weapon unless there are some serious underlying issues. Hence my willingness to be accept someone back into a league if they're getting professional help. That said if they just lost it because they have the emotional stability of a 5 year old temper-toddler they cannot be on the ice again, it's just unsafe for everyone around them. Edit: To be clear neither is acceptable, just one is more understandable than the other and I view it as something the person and work on and maybe control. Since playing ice hockey it's become very important to me. It's motivation to keep in shape with exercise, it's exercise in of itself, I enjoy playing it a lot (it's my favourite physical activity and one of the few physical activities I partake in that I genuinely just like), plus it's a great social experience before and after the game with my team. I wouldn't like to lose that so it's hard for me to say someone should too. doctor 7 fucked around with this message at 20:57 on Mar 22, 2019 |

As the father of two kids, enough about your kids. Had our second-to-last game of the season last night against our arch-rivals (the Grinders), with whom we traded off 1/2 spots in the division for the last few seasons, lost to in a championship game OT last winter, trounced in a championship game last summer, and who followed us when we moved up one division this season - where we are back in the 1/2 spots. Our team is 18-1-1 and the one loss was to them in the very first game back in October, though we've come back to beat them 7-3, 8-1, and now 4-2 in subsequent match-ups. They're young and play fast, and we're on average probably ten years older but move the puck around very well, so it's always very competitive, very physically draining, and very fun, and last night was no exception. We were even through the second, then I set up the go-ahead goal on the PP half a minute into the 3rd period. And five minutes later I did this: The air left their tires after that, but we had pretty much shut them down in the third up that point, anyway. The only openings we gave them were very occasional rushes managed by a single player, all of which came to night. It was one of the more marked changes in momentum I've experienced in a game. It went from a relatively even back-and-forth to us just stifling them and barely letting them out of their own zone with the puck. Their goalie stood on her head, too - stonewalled our best player on no fewer than three breakaways, including one incredible full-body-extension glove save after he'd deked her completely out of position and thought he had an open net.

1. Nice ripper. 2. RW should win 1st star of the game for that defensive effort. 3. The gently caress is up with those blue lines? Maybe its just a perspective thing but it looks like the blue line is REALLY far back, making the offensive zone look about 5 feet longer. Guessing the thin blue line is for curling. 4. 18-1-1? Going out on a limb here and saying you guys should probably move up if thats your season record.

Used to have a guy on our team who was good + ridiculous puck luck, like multiple times a game he'd go through the opposing team and at some point lose the puck only to have it roll onto his stick with an empty net (think Rick Nash vs Phoenix goal). And he was a bit of a chode, so everyone definitely hated him. Towards the end of the season someone cross-checked him in the throat at the end of the game. Actually ended up calling it with 2 minutes left because his throat swelled up and we were a few seconds away from calling an ambulance before he suffocated. Head referee that game just happened to be the league director, and he was like a foot away when it happened so he saw everything. Once our guy regained his ability to breathe, ref strolled over into the other team's dressing room and we never saw the cross-checker guy again.

To be fair, our record wasn't that good last season, in a lower division, even though we've been top two consistently and I'd been arguing for some time that we should move. See, our prior division was the highest division that player primarily weekend games, so it had a lot of guys playing down, and punched above its level. This season was just kind of a breakthrough, with new team members gelling and some of our worse players not being able to make as many games due to the weekday schedule. But, yeah. We don't belong in this division.

We had a guy permabanned a year or so ago for doing a two handed hack to someone. I didn't see it but it may have been on the head. The best part of it, his team encouraged the league manager to boot the guy forever.

We won a barn-burner 8-6 tonight, bringing our record to 5-1. I know that it's a D-League and I'm not even one of the better players on my team, but I find myself getting angry at how bad our goalie is and how much of a liability he's been all season, despite our record.

If it's a new goalie they get better fast. After a season or two they adjust to the level of competition and then you have to start complimenting them.

Just be glad you're 5-1. I've backstopped teams where I was facing 45 shots a game and went 1-9 on a season before. Is he just letting in bad goals or are there a lot of breakaways and 2 on 1s?

Maybe he has bad knees or something because he flat-out refuses to drop down when making saves. He either whacks the puck away with his stick or will block the puck with his pads while standing up. The only time he freezes the puck is if he catches a shot above his waist in his glove, which means the vast majority of the time he's giving up juicy rebounds. So I guess my issue isn't so much that he's bad as it is he's lazy. I'll be the first to admit that I suck at hockey, but I'm trying as hard as I can during every shift, as are the rest of the skaters on my team. Our defense is by far the best part of our team, so we almost never give up odd-man rushes. We don't keep detailed stats, but I'd guess that our team has never given up more that 20 shots on goal in any of our games.

Our goalie is similar about not dropping down too much. But he's having knee surgery this summer to fix that issue. When I first started out again I got irritated by goalies letting stuff in, specially the easy ones. My philosophy now is relax drink a beer and enjoy playing hockey. Only time I get mad is at myself when I'm terrible. Which is pretty much all of the time.

Drizzle, xzzy, I know you guys aren't the reps for your team so you haven't seen what hawk is doing with the leagues for the summer. It's interesting. https://ashl.ca/stats-and-schedules...=div_percentage Basically: Top of C1 got promoted to B C2/3 got smoothed out between C1/2/3 D1and D2 are basically the same except for Biohazard and Mighty Drunks being off in la la land. Because nobody in D2 wants to deal with the Drunks, and Biohazard was god awful this season (because all their skill is kids who come back from college). D3 got split into east and west (like 50+ is) by regular season rankings, Dad Bodz isn't playing over the summer, Iron Kitty drops to Coed, one new team in our directional division, two in the other one. Yeah, we're all in D3 West. YeehawMcKickass fucked around with this message at 23:01 on Mar 24, 2019 |

I'd heard rumors that something was coming (such as D3 moving to saturday to get more available ice) but that's loving nuts. The split of D3 is great though, there's a lot of teams in there that are legit D3 games (and being near the bottom of the barrel I measure this based on whether I can compete or not) and a bunch of D3 teams that would get trashed in D2 (and a couple that would still own in D2). Hope it works and it becomes permanent because I'm just a sub this summer.
