I cannot fathom how 3 people died unless it was vast stretch of desert that took a while for responders to get to. Or they had a old shotty 70s touring van (most plausible). A senseless week for music as well: nipsey hussle getting gunned down (sorry its not on topic, but not sorry) and lets eat grandma canceled their tour because of a death, save for the coachella gigs.

Yeah I had tickets to the LEG show in Chicago. Poor kids.

On a less tragic note, I saw Mitski in Wisconsin last night and it was a great show. The crowd was amazing too.

they had a head-on collision on a freeway with a (possibly drunk) driver who was going the wrong way. the vehicles burst into flames. when the police arrived, the bodies were not identifiable. im glad you shared your hot take with us though

I’m heading out to Colorado for a wedding in June, and it just so happens that Death Cab and Mitski are playing Red Rocks a few days later... really excited to scratch that off my bucket list! I’ve seen both before so I know what to expect, but I saw Mitski last year about a week before she dropped Geyser so I’m excited to see how her live show evolved since Cowboy came out. DCFC I’ve seen before, I know exactly what to expect - hopefully they’ll play a lot of Narrow Stairs, that’s always been my favorite record of theirs.

As for new music, Hot Chip counts, right? I don’t think I’ve ever not enjoyed something they put out. Really enjoyed the new Vampy Weeks and National tracks today too.

Anybody still listening to Bright Eyes? They were one of my favorite bands of my mid-teens and had a profound impact on me, coming out with songs (and albums) that I'd consider some of my all-time favorites and getting me through one of the hardest times of my life.

I'd kinda stopped listening to them for a while for whatever reason, but I listened to them a bunch a few nights ago and it reminded me why I've always loved them so goddamn much.

I've only kept up with some of Conor's solo work, and most of it hasn't done much for me outside of his first solo album with the Mystic Valley Band, which was real good but still not as good as some of the Bright Eyes stuff.

The only time I've ever seen him live was in 2008 on the tour for that Mystic Valley Band album. Never got to see Bright Eyes live :(

Though this Better Oblivion Community Center performance of Shallow from A Star Is Born that came out a few days ago was pretty great too, even if that was mostly because of Phoebe!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbCrQPJDa9c

I gotta give that BOCC album another shot. I listened to it once all the way through and it wasn't wowing me so I didn't listen again. At this point I'm just wishing I was connecting to more of Conor's recent output because of how much Bright Eyes means to me.

e: HOLY poo poo, WHY HAVE I NOT HEARD THIS BEFORE :eyepop:

I don't think they played Toronto before. If they have I must have missed it. The last time I saw 'em was at Pitchfork 2015 when their set ended after like 3 songs because of rain.

Anyway it was a loving blast. The songs off the new album sound even better live.

Lifted.. was a great amalgamation of post-breakup teenage psychotic neurosis. I can't speak for anything else he did (well, arc of time is brilliant) but I listened to that album exclusively for a month for the aforementioned reasons. That's my story thx for listening.

Yeah that was a hell of a storm. And the band just like, waved bye kind of confused after a song and then it came down like the apocalypse.

Saw Death Cab for the first time in 10 years. They were great! They're still energetic with both old and new material after 20+ years. And Ben can still hit those high notes in his 40s!

Setlist:

quote:

1. I Dreamt We Spoke Again
2. Summer Years
3. The Ghosts of Beverly Drive
4. Long Division
5. Title and Registration
6. Gold Rush
7. Crooked Teeth
8. A Movie Script Ending
9. No Sunlight
10. What Sarah Said
11. 60 & Punk
12. I Will Possess Your Heart
13. Little Wanderer
14. Black Sun
15. Expo '86
16. Northern Lights
17. Doors Unlocked and Open
18. Cath…
19. Soul Meets Body
20. The Sound of Settling

Encore:
1. I Will Follow You Into the Dark (Ben solo)
2. When We Drive
3. You Are a Tourist
4. Transatlanticism

Loose Leaves is so good, it's weird for how prolific he was that he saved some great songs for EPs and always had a few weaker spots on his albums. I always really enjoyed the split with Neva Dinova too, those guys complimented each other really well.
