Like I can understand the online requiring downgrades to run smoothly but short of firing incendiary rounds non stop singleplayer is pretty well optimized. I don't really know all the details or if they ever fixed what they broke, I first noticed when I went to replay the beginning of singleplayer a few weeks ago that it looked noticeably worse before giving up in disgust. When I glanced at the news about it the main takeaway was that they turned off ambient occlusion in single player at least, possibly among other things. See eg this article

If you have a physical copy you could uninstall the game, disable automatic updates, and reinstall the old version that's on the disc. If you're playing a digital copy you're out of luck because if you reinstalled from the store it would have the latest update baked in.

I love that some gunsmiths will talk about things they can do to a gun (like new triggers) which aren't actually an option at all. Seems like 95% of the changes you can make are cosmetic and they forgot to include a lot of other stuff they had plans for, but they did manage to keep the dialog talking about them... E- also amazed that poker is such an atrociously ignored/useless minigame. It's like they only included it because it was in the first one... Why would anyone ever play? All the mini games this go around really. I enjoy them but they won't pay the bills. I'm glad horseshoes isn't in this one though. I could never figure out how to be consistently good.

Honestly the game could do with making it 20x harder to make money, or at least make certain things way more expensive. So dumb that I can go find one gold bar and that near enough pays to have the camp fully upgraded from nothing.

The original RDR had a goty edition with all the DLC/Undead Nightmare and included a new hardcore mode that had increased/decreased parameters like that. Harder to make money/things cost more, forced free-aim/enemies were more accurate, you couldn't take as much damage/took way longer to heal. I think ammo was hard to come by too. Outside hardcore mode I remember rarely using restorative items, but in it they were a godsend. Really made shoot-outs more dicey. Gotta be smart with your ammo, secure good cover, and be on the move so you don't get flanked. Maybe we'll get that again in the distant future

I set up camp a bit away, slept until evening, rode to lake Cairn and they were there on the lake when I arrived. First time was a 3 star one with no horns, second time was 2 stars with horns. Also the camp upgrade for the antlers doesn't need to be 3 stars, if that matters.

The most fun of which is the one where replaying the graveyard mission in San Denis to completion (you just need to finish it, dying and Skipping to Checkpoint is fine) makes all of the usual Blackwater death patrols vanish until you reload or die. So it's possible to go all the way to Austin at any point past that mission.

The only challenge you can’t complete is herbalist. I did the horse ones by just smashing tonics, including taming the horse that only spawns outside Blackwater.

Is it worth trying to recatch a legendary fish after dying before delivery? Interwebs posts that are months old suggest I am hosed but maybe it's been patched? Caught the lake sturgeon and then proceeded to run straight into the train with the fucker. No X on the map but I was bored of fishing so I hosed off to do other poo poo rather than trying again after respawn.

The furthest kill I've had is around 580 feet and it was a situation where the NPC didn't even appear on my screen until I got that close, so I'm not sure how I am supposed to shoot someone further away when they don't even show up.
