Yeah, gently caress profit. I remember a news story from 1997 or so where a Japanese nuclear facility transported some waste by buckets, against established documented policy. I don't remember if it was actually anything bad though. Just some foreshadowing.

Oh, over the past 30ish years there were probably 4-5000 excess deaths, according to the old 2009 report on the subject. OFC this is roughly equivalent to the yearly number of deaths just mining coal in China, much less air pollution, but eh?

yeah, the only way you could do this successfully would be a massive program to replace all current fossil fuel plants with nuclear, and then gradually replacing nuclear with renewable. anything else is an impossibility

Eh.

Most of the world does not live in first-world conditions. Computer-touchers and finance pukes won't suddenly explode or melt if we just turn off the first-world economy. The thing stopping us from just transitioning cold-turkey is not feasibility or survivability but the fact that the first-world absolutely will not allow itself to temporarily endure the conditions of the people who grow their coffee.

dumb shits who post poo poo like this have never actually been to the third world and must have some weird idealized image of it where people are all self sustaining rural peasants & noble savages or something instead of mostly jammed into modernized, overcrowded cities doing pretty similar jobs to what we do
