Take that microtransaction concept and get a bot or just do it 20 hours a day and I'm sure you would do extremely well. Most traders don't do it because they are chasing huge profits quickly, not a million 0.01% profits over a period of months. I didn't want to deal with trying to pay taxes on 20,000 transactions and think crypto in general is dumb. Yet I still quadrupled my initial buy in because the market just went crazy, no matter what you were buying.

He has that ability to do extreme spreadsheet minmaxing and spend an infinite amount of time focused on minutiae. He was famous for it. in my case, i did make a lot of trades. unlike adar, i never touched ICOs. but i never entered a trade with just 0.1% profit as my target, as the risk vs reward would always be too heavily slanted towards risk in that case. market orders had a 0.25-0.3% fee on coinbase, so a target of 0.1% profit would automatically be a bad trade just because of risk:reward. limit orders were free so it was possible to take profit on a 0.1% move, but realistically, you probably aren't going to get in and out of a trade like that on limit orders. i'm sure there were algo traders who were microscalping like that but i doubt if any human could have any edge making 0.1% scalps in the crypto market. also i'm not sure why any human would try to do that when the moves were way, way bigger than 0.1% i traded momentum and reversals. so, big, high volume breakouts in price from previous resistance (this was stupid easy with how irrational the market was in 2017), and buying into high volume sell-offs with the expectation that the price would quickly reverse in the near future. i also did some bottom fishing, which is buying just above price levels that have previously acted as support, with the expectation that it will act as support again. you stop out if it doesn't, and if it does, you sell for several times what you were risking on the trade. the basic idea behind every trade is that you identify setups that give you good risk:reward and you stay disciplined and respect your stop and take your loss if the trade doesn't go your way.

Norton the First posted:I really want to know how that works. BitMEX gets its bitcoin price from Bitstamp and Coinbase, two exchanges that deal in actual US Dollars. And I'm pretty sure the margin bets on BitMEX are trader versus trader. So the traders don't care about Bitcoin - they only care about how the price of Bitcoin affects their bets. Fundamentally: the bets are way bigger than the amount needed to manipulate the price the bet depends upon.

Also these bets are highly leveraged; there's likely not a few hundred million real actual dollars backing these trades. But that means there's huge upside if the market moves the right way -- or a total loss of the staked funds conversely. Almost surely everyone betting long got their positions liquidated, and depending on what their balance is in their brokerage account, wrecked entirely.

So what basically happened is that somebody took $250,000,000 in bets that nobody would be dumb enough to sell a butt for $x, and then sold butts until the price was $x? lmao
