The killdozer incident just has it all for GBS: there's a dozer, there's a weird boomer inside it, and he's mad about poop. Somebody already linked to the donoteat video so I'll just second watching that.

One of my pet peeves with living in Colorado is that people are so nice, generally speaking, that other people don't feel like they'll ever face consequences for their actions. And so you've got people out there who do some really petty poo poo, that you might not pull elsewhere out of fear of dealing with crazy people. A good example of this was someone wrote on my windshield in sharpie "nice parking job rear end in a top hat". Now to this day, none of us can figure out what they thought I did wrong in terms of parking, the car was legit just in a line of other cars, not parked closely or anything. But more importantly, what if I were a crazy person that showed up as you were doing that and just went nuts and started shooting. That's why you don't deface stranger's property, you just don't know who you're dealing with. But everyone has this expectation of "no consequences because they live in a "nice state". Now, was the killdozer guy right? Was a hero for his actions? No, he was insane, and probably had pissed off a lot of people leading up to that event. But that's why you don't pick fights with people that might be crazy, because they're prone to doing crazy poo poo. In no way should anyone condone what he did, but..... well I'm willing to bet the people on that city council wish they had been a little more accommodating to that guy, even if he was an rear end in a top hat.

When you do confrontational stuff in the more rural areas of America, you also run the risk of getting shot dead by some redneck who thinks he's standing his ground because you got up in his face about something. Killdozer guy was a giant piece of poo poo and the fact that he didn't kill anyone is due to his own incompetence rather than lack of trying (he had gun turrets built in fyi)

He clearly had a plan and i dont believe that people were in danger with how slow he was moving especially the children in said library but the library was innocent he is just an insane libertarian who targeted other buisness owners people who taxed him and where his tax went.

Does make me think: there have been a few cases of people going postal with armoured machines, including tanks. Are there plans in place to stop them the next time it happens? Do Ponch and Jon have javelin missiles in their motocycle panniers?

Shut up Meg posted:Oh yes: man was a shithead for sure, but you can't argue he made a hell of a machine. i mean you'd think that those fuckin' army surplus armored vehicles the cops get would be decent for roadblocking a non-tank armored vehicle, but it wouldn't surprise me if they chickened out and just held back and ineffectually plinked at it theoretically you could call the national guard out to bring rockets or something but my guess is that by the time they get everything in place the driver's probably going to have run out of fuel. even if that's not the case it wouldn't surprise me if it's considered safer to just let the tank run out of fuel than fire anti-tank weapons within city limits, they're not infallible and you really don't want to have a stray shot

The police just followed him as best they could and finally tried to apprehend him once he high centered the tank on a highway divider. Apparently, he tried to resist or had a weapon and they had to shoot him but otherwise they would've taken him alive. I think a large bulldozer would be harder to take out, and would also do more damage to structures since they're purpose built to move large amounts of dirt, rocks etc and are also good at destroying stuff apparently

And he turned down multiple offers, not one. He kept upping his offer after they'd meet each one. Also he turned down other offers of remediation, like a parcel swap or the cement company allowing him to hook his sewage to theirs, on their dime. Not to mention that a lot of this goes back to him just being pissed the city wouldn't pay for him to add sewer access to his land before the cement factory thing even really started. Basically everyone else around him was accommodating as hell and he was a dick about it. I'm sure there is plenty of "the truth is in the middle" bullshit mixed in, but he was an rear end in a top hat. He also sounded literally insane and thought this was some kind of religious mission. Killdozer is still rad as hell, but the pilot is an rear end in a top hat

wilderthanmild posted:And he turned down multiple offers, not one. He kept upping his offer after they'd meet each one. Good points, but the fact that they offered him so much initially was a good indication that the land was really valuable to the cement company, and he had nothing to lose by upping his counter offer. When it got to the 1 million mark, he was probably just being stubborn though. The sewage thing can be chalked up to principals. Why should he have to make any kind of agreement with the cement company, and then be forced to take their sewage charity? IDK how much of the counter arguments are valid, but I'm sure we're still getting the light beer version from the city after the fact. Sure his killdozer response was crazy(and loving rad as hell), but there was a slow burn of assholery where a simple dude just wanted to run a muffler shop and be able to flush his toilet but some cement company wanted to build next to him so he didn't matter anymore.
