I haven't played since December when a death in the family derailed video gaming time. Does this still suck? Should I wait until the new NPC updates before jumping back in? There were 9k unread posts in my bookmark for this thread. Surely they can't all be people bitching about Fallout 76. EDIT: a shameful snipe.

Speaking of ATOM, how is Underrail as far as throw back RPGs go? I have it in my GOG collection but never got passed the tutorial. Is it like Fallout 1 where there are trap builds and what not? It's alright, but there are definitely builds that are a lot worse than others. The crafting system is pretty in depth, but due to how expensive it is to skill up in it, it's not something you can afford to dabble in. Either commit to kitting yourself out in custom gear, or just don't bother at all and use what you can find/buy. Similarly, psionics can be very powerful, but require you build for them to get the most effect. My only real complaint is that the narrative kind of unravels in the midgame (where I lost interest). I can't say if the endgame gets better.

Eh, I have been dicking around with it with a friend this week: it still has some issues like wierd crashes (once or twice now) but it definitely runs better on my PC now compared to the beta, and I actually think the world is a lot more loving interesting to genuinely explore than Fallout 4. I also think the overall plot is much more interesting than Fallout 4 "MY BABY" though, even without human npcs (and that's honestly not a high bar to clear), so.... Overall it has improved somewhat, at least when I played it in the beta, and most of the bad bugs and dumb duping poo poo seem to have been fixed. There were a few bright spots where people talked about the old games and one guy even tried to name an effort towards playing Tactics which was kinda cool  Also 76 added some underground lair or something and people were briefly excited about it being a giant dungeon like the one in Skyrim but it turned out to be for a 10 minute quest I guess? But other than that, yeah, pretty much.

I've got 6 characters who just sorta duck-walk around the map inch by inch set up to return fire at any moving thing. Enemies are dying in droves. Pretty cool game!

A small recommendation if you're in the mood for a post-apoc sandbox is Kenshi. Requires a specific kind of brainworm to enjoy ill be honest, its not dialogue heavy or plot based, just a big world that hates you to gently caress around in really. The aesthetic is pretty good and worth checking out imo.

If your not at the caps cap(25k caps) and don't have the backpack or done the new short short short quests, then there might be stuff for you to do. Might be better to have caps/backpack/more perks upgrade and know what you want to make legendary when they add the legendary system or other stuff. Apparently today's random rear end conference between Todd and Musk was somehow related to the development of Starfield and Todd's recent visit to a SpaceX facility to do some research for it. Haven't been able to watch the video yet (and likely never will since I can only stomach so much smug rear end in a top hat at a time) but a few tidbits of information that did make it out include spaceflight being "dangerous", using H3 as a fuel and Bethesda wanting to take a more hard sci-fi approach to the game. Can't wait to see Gamebryo poo poo itself trying to do calculations on newtonian physics in real time. These tax write offs are getting more and more elaborate every year.

Oh god no, I am still a babby in swaddling clothes in ‘76. Like to the point where I’m still having to sneak around to avoid ghouls. For whatever reason I wasn’t leveling up anywhere near as well as I was in other Fallout games even after playing for 2 weeks. I am comically bad at that game. So everything will still be a challenge. And I can’t stand Fallout 4 anymore because of all the missions. I can’t go five minutes without a Minuteman freaking out about some crisis.
