She has a bad habit of doing that with movies. Like the Changeling movie with Angie Jolie? She told me it was about a single mother trying to find her son. Boring. Lifetime does that every week. If she had said oh yes, mother trying to find her son, and there's a serial killer too, and an insane asylum where they lobotomize women who act uppity, I'd be all in.

It's like the reverse of the trailer that spoils the entire movie.

My dad did that to me with Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

He tried to sell it to young me as "A movie about a boy who uses his computer to take away the number of sick days he has taken." Technically, he wasn't wrong, but jesus gently caress did he miss the point of the movie.

My sister had an interest in history when she was in middle school/early high school, and do you know what was a great show that she could watch with mom that wouldn't cause any embarrassment at all? Why, The Tudors on Showtime of course!

I had graduated from high school and college respectively when they came out, but Mom still nearly died of embarrassment when watching 40 Year Old Virgin (The Office was a weekly family thing) and Black Swan with me.

Anyway, a thing irrationally irritating me: Agents of Shield's previous season ended with the warning that Thanos is coming and the crew preventing a bad future where Earth is accidentally destroyed by an overcharged superhuman who wanted to stop him. Then both Infinity War and Endgame came and went, and the new season started with a timeskip and no mention of Thanos or the snap, and I'm spending too much time wondering about it.

Also, the Netflix portion of the MCU has wrapped up, and I can't help but laugh at how few of the fantastic elements of the MCU made it in. Kingpin is the biggest criminal in the city but has nothing to do with the trade in alien technology other New York criminals are engaged in. The biggest effect of the alien invasion is that Hell's Kitchen was de-gentrified. The fact that America's government was completely infiltrated by HYDRA didn't come up at all when the Punisher was dealing with the excesses of the War on Terror. The guys in the government worrying about the Punisher exposing their off-the-books assassination squad in Afghanistan funded by heroin are almost quaint compared to moles in SHIELD who tried to cull America's population with a network of automated flying aircraft carriers.

Just recently learned that Robert Downey Jr. was down with the show and wanted to make a couple cameos but was kept away by ~someone~ in charge that I can't remember.

They got Sam Jackson for two episodes and that was about it.

I thought that was Greeks. The idea that the bigger the dick, the more savage and barbaric the person, so civilized and cultured citizens prized smallness.

Meanwhile Romans considered the penis a symbol of power and protection. Pendants and inscriptions of winged penises protecting common citizens are common.

IIMM: in Train to Busan why bother to show us the kicking sweet deer and then it never shows up again?

Another IIMM: is there a point, after the first Hostel, to make loving gorn torture porn movies? Huh okay the dude is scalped and now...okay, so someone decided to make 'cannibal almost zombie Injuns' a thing. poo poo, I was going to tease her about having a guilty pleasure with torture porn movies but that scene apparently bothered her enough she won't shut up about how hosed up it was and she wished she had never seen it.

I can't even remember seeing an ad for this for the movies, must have been some Netflix original or something?

And another thing about Supernatural. When Meg gets possessed it gets mentioned that her body has become so damaged that the only thing keeping her alive and moving is the demon in there. So if they exorcise it she will die. They finally make the tough decision after she begs them to and it haunts Sam for multiple episodes after.

Now every episode has them off like 10 possessed people and not care. Why are these hunks also monsters?

Bone Tomahawk has a few somewhat gory scenes and one crazy gory scene. Between them is a very very good western with some outstanding performances from Richard Jenkins, Patrick Wilson and Kurt Russell.

I've always told friends that it's a movie that I love dearly that I can't recommend to anyone because of that last scene. The scene also fits so I think the movie really needs it. I wouldn't put it in with other torture porn as this gore has a point other than "look how gross this is".

It was just earlier in the show’s run, that’s all. Supernatural has a real de-escalation problem with all its antagonists and themes.

Demons are terrifying forces of evil who can only be harmed by the antique bullets of a legendary gun? Nah, now they’re faceless extras who get taken out by the dozen.

Angels are barely understood agents of an absent God who command awesome unstoppable power? Nah, just smear some blood on the wall and exorcise them back to heaven.

Dying and enduring literal hell to procure salvation for a loved one is the ultimate sacrifice? Nah, must be Tuesday again already.
