Some might get upset.

Most would just masturbate, same as the other way around.

The core of the scam is that you have a customer base of people with disposable income that can convince themselves to spend it on an infinite promise of any hypothetical or imaginary mechanic, item or situation existing. Literally whatever the customer could possibly ever want is being sold.

Some idiots drop $950 because they are dreaming of space farming and procedural plant life. Other people are dreaming of rape. Mixed bag really.

Are you serious? People commit suicide over this. People have crashed their marriages, spent their kids college money, mortgaged their homes for this scam.

And these posts are from YEARS ago.

Wait how can you fall out of a spaceship when you're in outer space? And how are you falling through the floor? Even janky build engine games in the 90s didn't gently caress up this badly, man :stare:

lol no way. These types of people want everything to work for them. Everything to be perfect for them. The game to be designed specifically for them. The moment someone uses whatever they wanted so badly against them, they'll flip out like autistic children and scream "You're not playing fair!" Then they'll be up in arms and arguing about the next horrible thing they want to make everything better for just them of course.

They've gotten finished with the trench war over the matters under dispute, and are in the trench war over discovery (E.G. evidence about what's being contested). Jury trial projected to start probably spring next year.

The stimpire guy definitely dreams of getting his bones removed as the worst electricity caresses his balls.

imo, it's not just something to do to others, he sees himself on both ends of the stim and loves every second of it. Even odds the weirdly specific date in it is his own birthday.

Uff, only 17 more days until deskeletonization day. It seems to come around earlier and earlier each year doesn’t it? When I was a kid, back when stimpire.txt came out, it seemed like it would never come: now it feels like only last week I was coating the bones of newborns in adamantium analog.

this is really common in nerd poo poo driven by fans of a genre’s mainstays, 99% of people who try to make a game (or write a webcomic, or whatever the gently caress) were at some point really hardcore into some fandom and could tell you all the languages and regional dialects in Tolkien or every ship variant and the planet they’re built on in Star WarTreks or know every lovely faux-Latin “spell” from every piece of Harry Potter media in the universe, and somehow their brains break to think that those insane details are what make the work good/popular instead of realizing they kinda organically grew out of a much simpler product (Tolkien languages notwithstanding, he was a huge linguist dork and I love him for it and the stories were almost a byproduct)

Originality is ripping off something different from what everyone else was ripping off, and mashing things together in a way that people aren't already sick to death of. Dune took pulp sci-fi and Foundation and instead used the Middle East and courtly intrigue dramas for inspiration and had a universe inhabited by grown-ups. Star Wars ripped off samurai, cowboy and WW2 movies with Dune for flavour and made a universe that's been lived in and the spaceships aren't shiny and new. (Because they're the equivalent of WW2 planes and ships)

Even less original but aesthetically distinctive works are generally built around someone's idea for an aesthetic; Borderlands comes to mind as being distinct despite being full of blatant ripoffs and memes with its 'Sci-fi equivalent of a Third World country' theme.

Star Citizen clearly isn't even trying, and I think that's partly on purpose, they just want a melange (and not in the fun Dune way) of vaguely familiar sci-fi trappings with maybe a vague sense of 'real and gritty' (but no actual grit) Chris Roberts isn't exactly known for originality, given I'm pretty sure Wing Commander is basically just Battlestar Galactica but with cat people instead of robots.

Of course, it's not exactly an unusual thing in video games to be clearly not even trying for an original aesthetic, including in successful and popular ones, because making something new is hard especially when you're trying to build a functional game around it, so I don't feel most game devs deserve too much judgement on that point. But given the sheer ambition and scope of Star Citizen and the insane amounts of effort going into the assets, I think it's worth pointing out and mocking how said assets are so generic they might as well have used off-the-shelf stuff.

Star Citizen is like Schrodinger's video game, where the context of the inquiry alters it's development cycle. Either it's very far along so you can't criticize how much time it's taking or it just recently started development so you can't criticize how unfinished it appears to be.
