I had a 128, it was a good driver but man the little stuff that broke was really annoying. Typical superior German electronics and adhesives. It never stranded me. ... Except immediately after buying it, I found out the gas gauge was hung up at 1/2. Sigh.

I had a 128 which was reliable except the lens of the CHMSL kept cracking and peeling off. It got replaced under warranty twice.

Someone fled NY with a RWD car. Perfectly logical. Honestly, mine didn't look too bad as a result of living in Vermont, it's probably fine.

Well that's all good besides the fact that apparently Carmax just now offered him what he was asking for it, and now wants to charge me $1500 more for it. What the gently caress is wrong with people. [e] Going to look at the Z4C later (apparently) so i'll see how that goes

N54 engine question (‘08, e61): Locally I can find ethanol free 90 octane, and 93 octane with 10% ethanol. Any price difference is largely negligible. A poke around the bmw forums (dear god, BRO, these cars are getting way too cheap while their design is aging well to keep idiots away- the signal to noise is amazing) seems to point to ethanol content in fuel being what kills HPFPs. Thoughts?

Alarbus posted:The heat exchanger buried in the dash failed. No idea if that's common or not, to be honest. It also happened during the hottest week of that year, and we were doing a long road trip the following month, so it turned into a good reason to car shop. I don't recall seeing that on the E90 forums, and my prior one was fine, so who knows. Yes, the E90 definitely has the A/C evap under the dash that fails. In fact, I’m sure the 1 series inherited that from the 3 series. Just a phenomenally stupid engineering decision. The upside for you, potentially with the I6, is there’s an access panel in the firewall to facilitate replacement. Might be there for the 1 series, it’s definitely there on the E90. The fun part for M3 owners is when they decided to put the wider V8 in it they just said gently caress it to any access panels that were covered.

Went to look at the Z4C yesterday and it was easy to pass on it, clearly wasn't taken care of very well, and when the guy drove it up to the place we were meeting he pulled the front end of the car right over a parking block with a loud SCRAAAAAAAAAAPE and got out of the car like it was a normal occurrence. Looking underneath the front end it was clear he did it often. Drove the car anyway tho because I have never driven one and was curious, in sport mode the AT shifts loving HARD it was kind of bizarre, if I was to get one of these cars it would definitely have to be an MT, the AT just didn't feel right in that car. And the seats weren't very comfortable or supportive either. Other than that it was pretty fast and handled really well.....Don't know if i could live with it as a daily tho.

Yeah if you’re gonna be daily driving this car you’d be better off with the Z3 Coupe since it’s got all that storage available and is the weirdest and best BMW.

Caught a flat tire in the e46 late last night coming home. Had to get towed to the tire shop near my work. I'm guessing I should go with PS4 right? Also the tires on it are fairly new so I was thinking of just replacing the rears for now.

So I test drove the 135i, it was a nice car and it drove really good, but unfortunately it's a NY car and i just don't want to deal with the rust. Calipers were completely rusted and the rotors were toast, all rusted and pitted so at the very least it needed pads and rotors, possibly calipers if the bleeder screws were rusted shut. Underneath lots of suspension nuts and bolts rusted, and even under the hood there was rust. The owner mentioned he had to replace the loving oil pan because it had rusted through and was leaking. I know some of you think that's normal poo poo but not down here, the way I look at it is I live in Florida and should not have to deal with any rust at all, period. Too bad because if it was a FL car I would have bought it. And MAYBE possibly if he kept the original price he had at just under 7k I might have considered it, but then he raised the price on me to 8.4k so gently caress that. I made the mistake of buying a Miata from Ohio once and vowed never again.

It's just not worth it. Once that crap starts it is just cancer that you'll be perpetually fighting but never actually cure. That poo poo is not normal no matter what New Englanders or Midwesterners say. Cars should last decades plural, not maybe one singular decade if you're lucky. We've got cars from the 80s still getting daily driven around here in the PNW, especially old BMWs and Volvos.
