You gotta throw in Final Fantasy (just the first one) too, since Link's grave is sitting right there in Elfheim.

Zelda threw the "Other game's hero's grave" punch first, though, since Loto has one in the second game.

so if i beat the windfish and don't care about the seashell hunt or dampe and his lego dungeons, there's nothing else to do in the game? i thought the graphical overhaul was charming but it still had crazy slowdown when more than like 3 things were on the screen at once (both docked and mobile) and i feel like $65.35 was way too much for what was basically a gameboy color game with a high-rez graphics patch

There is the hidden Color dungeon, which was added to the Game Boy Color version, if you missed that.

But yes, you are right, this is just a remake of the original Game Boy game, not something wholly original and new.

I still would've said $40 feels "right" to me but I'm not too salty since I know I'll replay this every year or so. What I really hope is that they do an Oracle twofer, now that they have the engine and a ton of assets ready to go. I really want to try those out again with the updates and streamlining added in.

Yeah, I think it was overpriced in itself, but if it turns out that was Oracle tax so they could get the style/engine/assets sorted for Switch Oracles I'm not going to complain.

I’ve been doing good with throwing the ball over the fences, but there’s a room to the left on the 3F where you need the red/blue blocks switched one way to get to the next room, but then the room after you need it switched the other way. The first room has a snake enemy that I don’t remember seeing before.

In other news: I suggest people get at least forty shells to get the powered up sword. The sword is really great, and hunting the shells down is a lot of fun, and helps you appreciate the world.

I paid $60 for Link's Awakening and $60 for Astral Chain and I got way more enjoyment out of the 12 or so hours of LA.

I don't know what this thing is, and I don't care. I'm just tired of seeing your stupid newbie av from 2011.
I'm about to enter the Wind Fish's egg, so I might as well give my thoughts on the Link's Awakening remake.

I love it! The original was my first Zelda game, and amusingly due to this and the Oracle games being my only Zeldas until I picked up Twilight Princess in ~2010, I had no idea what a Hyrule or a Ganon was for nearly 20 years of my life. Anyways. I'm honestly glad the core map wasn't changed. Even being familiar with the map the new art style and soundtrack kept everything feeling fresh. Small QoL changes such as permanently equipping the sword, not having to re-kill enemies to unlock rooms, and the teleport changes really helped the game feel modern and accessible. I can't really think of any changes I didn't like aside from a couple minor ones. Fishing seems harder but I've hated fishing in every Zelda so that's a moot point. Also a few minibosses were less difficult than I thought because I had trouble finding the hitboxes for them. Notably the big Armos guarding the Face Shrine key and the boxing glove guy. Those are probably just my ineptitude though. The art style definitely helped some of the dungeons come alive. The GB was limited and the original did well with what it had but this really makes them feel distinct. Personally Turtle Rock felt the most updated, but gonna be honest here, I don't think I ever actually played this dungeon. I have a habit of burning out on games right before the end. But looking at the original's map, yeah the new art style is a fantastic update. Is the game worth $60? I think so. Especially if you've never played it. It's often argued to be the best 2D Zelda, and personally I think it is. As well as the best Zelda period. But that might be nostalgia clouding my judgement.

Amusing sidenote, I loved that I got stuck in a few of the exact same places as I always do. I always forget where the ghost's grave is, I always get lost in the Face Shrine and Eagle's Tower, and the Tal Tal caves somehow. Speaking of which, I think the last three dungeons (Face Shrine, Eagle's Tower, and Turtle Rock) are some of the best Zelda dungeons in the series.

The Chamber Dungeon thing is... not as bad as I thought it'd be. Is it the worst part of the remake? Yeah. But I still had fun going through the challenges. Mostly once I hit the final set and I was overwhelmed with how much I had to fill in and ended up realizing "wait exactly how lazy can I be filling this stupid thing in" was a very viable solution.

Seriously look as these lazy trashcan abominations I made:

Special shout-out to this for being ungodly annoying:

I think I could convince myself to go back and finish the dungeon design challenges if there were a way to force it to link particular stairways. The two I did with basement sections were aggravating because I had viable solutions but had to delete sections in the correct order to make the game link up stairs in a way that'd work, rather than in its own order. Maybe that feature is there, I just got frustrated and stopped designing.

It seems to do closer sections link up to each other for the most part but even that doesn't track 100% of the time. And from what I've read you cannot manually link them. It annoyed the hell out of me because I would've had a lot more fun if I could do that

also are some of the seashells in new places or something? that area in the forest, where its 4 holes shaped like a diamond and a bush in the middle (...uhh) i remember using the shovel in the middle and getting a shell in the gb version?

I used to spend ten minutes or so smacking coconuts around from the monkey to get money for the shovel just so I could have bombs in Tail Cave and full clear it in one go. I was kind of annoyed bombs are locked behind beating Bottle Grotto so you're forced to go back.
