Alchenar posted:This is one of the best air defence systems in the world, your only real option is mass. The scenario scoring algorithm seems to think that I should not be taking any losses whatsoever so I figured maybe there's a trick. I think I could drive my Kalibr boat up to it and just 76mm it to death bc I don't think the scenario designer bothered to add in anything to prevent that but that's a little gamey. Maybe I'll try Iskandering everything supporting it and then burning in at sea level with OECM and cluster? Ah wait I got it, Iskander everything around it and then make it shoot at Kryptons until it runs dry should do it. Those gigantic missiles can't be that great at chasing Kryptons??

Update: boating up to it and giving it a taste of the e: idk why I'm doing this silliness but driving up to it with the Iskander does NOT work, Iskander seems to be unable to detect it with its Mk1 eyeball even when parked right on top. aphid_licker fucked around with this message at 17:22 on Oct 16, 2019 |

Against a Gargoyle, approaching off the ocean the question simply becomes can you put over thirty missiles in the air simultaneously to make it run it's ready supply of missiles dry before dumping the rest of your munitions onto it while it reloads. If not then lol. For the localisation get two ELINT planes airborne simultaneously and have them at widely separated angles from it so they can triangulate it.

I hadn't even thought about triangulation, that sounds like it should do it. It's always kinda hard to tell which things this game does very cleverly and which it does really stupidly. The Gargoyle seems to have zero ability to hit an Iskander at least when I'm shooting stuff around it so I think the sole problem is getting the fix on its position. e: for the record I am absolutely not saying that the scenario designer is an idiot who should have included something to stop me from boating up to the Gargoyle, it's outside the basic idea of the scenario, which everyone understands, and not really hard to avoid doing so it's not a problem. gradenko_2000 posted:this sounds like an echo of Grey Hunter's Japan WITP LP I mean that was a lot worse since WITP just consistently failed to do things that it absolutely should have been able to do, whereas CMANO absolutely lets me have a good time trying to crack that nut while I stay inside the implicitly agreed-upon bounds of the scenario. aphid_licker fucked around with this message at 17:33 on Oct 16, 2019 |

I'm playing against Baudin who I've done a game with before. I think your best bet is to post in the WITP:AE forums on matrix games, or use their unofficial discord. https://discord.gg/NwXr6vr

Played some Deadlock 2 (works fine on Windows 10) for the first time. Still a great game but doesn't have the same vibe as the original with that awesome soundtrack and crazy alien cinematic. Apparently the campaign is fun though. Resource locality and transportation cost of both is an interesting and realistic mechanic, makes the game much more strategically complex.

Speaking of which, the Supreme Ruler devs just announced something called Galactic Ruler. Steam Store Page Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1138440 Announcement Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdBROy_48qI It sure is... something. Supreme Ruler engine stretched to multiple planets and systems, with an extra hex-based space map. Considering how they never managed to build a competitive AI or describe how the game’s systems actually work, I have a feeling this will go poorly. I get that graphics aren't the priority here, but god drat There are a lot of reasons that this won't work, but my favorite is the AI. For fourteen fuckin' years people have been begging Battlegoat to teach the AI how to do an amphibious invasion, and they just could not figure it out. Now they're making a game where every invasion is basically an amphibious one. Maybe they finally cracked that nut but I seriously doubt it And everything else about the game just doesn't even scale to one planet, much less dozens of them. I really wonder what made them think this was a good idea

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx-K97iTf_A A video showing off WarPlan, the new and oddly capitalized WWII strategy game from matrix. So far, it seems to be around the complexity of Commander, with the same larger scale - limited to Europe, but giving a 1939 start, which is rarer in games. I can't tell you much more yet, but I'll update with my thoughts as we go!
