The scenario scoring algorithm seems to think that I should not be taking any losses whatsoever so I figured maybe there's a trick. I think I could drive my Kalibr boat up to it and just 76mm it to death bc I don't think the scenario designer bothered to add in anything to prevent that but that's a little gamey. Maybe I'll try Iskandering everything supporting it and then burning in at sea level with OECM and cluster? Ah wait I got it, Iskander everything around it and then make it shoot at Kryptons until it runs dry should do it. Those gigantic missiles can't be that great at chasing Kryptons??

Update: boating up to it and giving it a taste of the COLD STEEL naval gunfire absolutely works. For some reason the guns don't engage, but it turns out that it still cannot deal with eight surprise Kalibrs from 2nm out. Bote supremacy confirmed.

e: idk why I'm doing this silliness but driving up to it with the Iskander does NOT work, Iskander seems to be unable to detect it with its Mk1 eyeball even when parked right on top.

I set sail for the Planet of Lab Requisitions!!

Against a Gargoyle, approaching off the ocean the question simply becomes can you put over thirty missiles in the air simultaneously to make it run it's ready supply of missiles dry before dumping the rest of your munitions onto it while it reloads.

If not then lol.

For the localisation get two ELINT planes airborne simultaneously and have them at widely separated angles from it so they can triangulate it.

I hadn't even thought about triangulation, that sounds like it should do it. It's always kinda hard to tell which things this game does very cleverly and which it does really stupidly.

The Gargoyle seems to have zero ability to hit an Iskander at least when I'm shooting stuff around it so I think the sole problem is getting the fix on its position.

e: for the record I am absolutely not saying that the scenario designer is an idiot who should have included something to stop me from boating up to the Gargoyle, it's outside the basic idea of the scenario, which everyone understands, and not really hard to avoid doing so it's not a problem.

gradenko_2000 posted:

I mean that was a lot worse since WITP just consistently failed to do things that it absolutely should have been able to do, whereas CMANO absolutely lets me have a good time trying to crack that nut while I stay inside the implicitly agreed-upon bounds of the scenario.

Played some Deadlock 2 (works fine on Windows 10) for the first time. Still a great game but doesn't have the same vibe as the original with that awesome soundtrack and crazy alien cinematic. Apparently the campaign is fun though.

Resource locality and transportation cost of both is an interesting and realistic mechanic, makes the game much more strategically complex.

*shrugs* Battletech? I presume that by 'strategy' you are ironically not including the core Paradox titles because they're mostly good and you should own them but that's a paradox megathread question.

True :v:, but there is still very different amount of work you need to put in to even be able to play the game depending of which title you chose. For example just compare naval battles between EU4 and HOI4. One is just selecting your fleet and ramming it into the enemy fleet (if you manage to catch it) while the other involves convoluted settings and ports and zones and home ports and fleet compositions and hope for the best because lol nobody knows how it actually works in full. Or just doing anything in CK2.

Wow, those screenshots. I get that graphics aren't the priority here, but god drat

There are a lot of reasons that this won't work, but my favorite is the AI. For fourteen fuckin' years people have been begging Battlegoat to teach the AI how to do an amphibious invasion, and they just could not figure it out. Now they're making a game where every invasion is basically an amphibious one. Maybe they finally cracked that nut but I seriously doubt it

And everything else about the game just doesn't even scale to one planet, much less dozens of them. I really wonder what made them think this was a good idea

Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts posted:

Hello Admirals,

We deeply thank you for all the support and feedback you are providing. We would like to inform you about our work for the next patch, which is scheduled to arrive next week. First of all, some balances:

Balances/Fixes

Penetration rebalance (Not so high drop-off of penetration strength, better shell shatter threshold for not so frequent partial-pens of HE). With the new settings however, angling will be even more important in order to inflict critical hits to heavily armored ships.
HE penetration strength reduced slightly for compensation, making HE shells not so powerful compared to AP as before.
AI choses shell ammunition more efficiently. It should switch to HE as a human player would do.
Main Guns/ Sec Gun fire rate rebalance (+15% Big guns, -10% Small guns)
Increased slightly the impact of flooding, making AP and torpedoes potentially more hazardous, as their hits can cause flooding with more probability.
Targeting became slightly sharper (fixes issues of very low accuracy at close range, due to very rapid change of bearing).
Cost rebalance of the Yamato type hull, so that in mission "Modern Battleship" it is less possible to build many weaker battleships. It is still possible to do so, but they should be so weak that they will be worthless (especially with new penetration balances).
Increased the accuracy of electric torpedoes further, but now they cost +12.5% more.
Reload Mechanism now affects range, turret traverse speed and aiming, instead of accuracy. Together with some weight/cost rebalances it is added an extra reloading tech component with no range drawbacks but is much more expensive.
Improved Auto-Designer to build ships favoring stronger main armament (and be more competitive against the player).
Fixed an issue with ship stats that affected torpedo detection range for towers (causing them to be too large and battleships to respond too early without the need of escort ships.).
Fixed issue that caused surface visibility to not be at realistic levels, according to ship size. Now big ships should be visible at reasonable distances. Late missions have been rebalanced in initial distance and duration to compensate for the new improvement.
Fixed stats issues not updating properly several components in late techs, for example, citadel bonuses on resistance.
1st Mission has -2 minutes duration to be not a pushover.
Increased +1km of average initial distance of opponent CL (2nd Mission) to reduce chance of an early lucky shot that can destroy the cruiser too soon.
"Destroy Full Fleet" mission is rebalanced and moved higher in the mission list, to reflect better its difficulty.
    The second part of improvements

The second part of the patch will be mostly dedicated to several crash fixes and fps optimizations. Two more missions and some other improvements are also scheduled for the next patch. We will provide more information in our final patch notes.

Have a good weekend everybody, and enjoy the game!
