Congratulations! If you're in the DC area, let your registrar know you are available on short notice. Sometimes there are last-minute cancellations and they need to fill the spot quickly. I have no idea what the Consular register is like nowadays, but it sounds like you may need a backup candidacy. Not totally hopeless, but probably not high enough to get excited about packing your bags either.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure if Pittsburgh is considered DC adjacent, but I could probably leave here quick enough. Yeah, that's what kind of sucks about the score. Kind of hard to feel happy about it. I'm planning on taking the test again next Feb to try to improve it.

What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step. It is always the same step, but you have to take it.
Whats everyones thoughts on the strategy of not taking bidding seriously during the regular season and waiting until late spring before a summer TED? Ive been hearing consistently from a lot of people that do this and that they almost always land a sweet NOW position that inevitably opens up for whatever reason and get a job with minimal competition. I thought this was bs but then I hear about and know quite a few that do exactly this with seemingly no real negative repercussions.

Also, gently caress interim EERs. My first time having to do one, slightly over 120 days. I was just promoted, not up for it, and have accomplished minimal work of major significance in the last three months. Total utter waste of time.

I've seen that strategy used.

It's good* if you're flexible (probably without kids) and you're alright with DC or someplace less than desirable if things don't work out. *If IMS - hit me up*

And yes, always PCS before 120 days.

I've heard of this strategy working, but I wouldn't be willing to try it. There will inevitably be people who have to break handshakes because of medical/family issues or because they decided to go elsewhere. Positions get upgraded at the last minute or jobs may get new language requirements. I saw some sweet 03 Consular jobs that were added right before handshake day, for example. So there are lots of ways this can happen, but if you have EFMs, I'd hate to put them through this kind of uncertainty, especially since bidding is already uncertain enough as is.

At my current post not often. At my previous post we had a hub and worked together frequently. They are also part of the DS family so we tend to invite each other to things when we are co-located.

I'm on pace for 7 total full EERs after my first 2 tours, plus 1 short form in there as well... The only good thing is I think that may be the reason why I got promoted this year, but still, I would love for once to just do one EER per year.

So this process takes as long as the government needs it to, yes? We've passed the 6-8 weeks time period since submission of narratives and I haven't received any contact. I'm sure the holidays prolong that whole process too.

EDIT: Ha, just checked my application with Pearson and it just reverted to "Schedule an FSOT Appointment". For another test, meaning that I must have been rejected without so much as a rejection email. Merry Christmas.

Ok, I received the official rejection email this morning. The general thrust of the rejection was that there was an unusually high number of people applying to the Foreign Service and it is extremely competitive. Well, I tried.

Peace Corps is not connected to the State Department but there are a number of former PCVs who choose to join State. Embassy senior leadership does help direct and oversee PC efforts in-country, but thats about the extent of routine contact.
