Zereth posted:Yeah, more wealthy people tend to be more conservative, and those are the people that can afford health care, so less conservative people die earlier. There's also the distinction between social conservatism and fiscal conservatism. Someone who formed an adult political identity as a social democrat or outright socialist 50 years ago is probably still going to have it, but it's also fairly likely they'll grouse about all this political correctness, not see why gay marriage or trans rights are important, and otherwise have a sense of "tolerance" that's at best old-fashioned today.

The dumbest thing about that technology is there are millions if examples of recorded voices so you could verify accuracy and validity of the technology before just winging it for clickbait on a mummy which no one cares about.

I think the difference is that, with Boomers, when white, middle-class people started to get into your 30s, they started to get money and property and get their feet under themselves financially and, hey, I got here by HARD WORK and I DESERVE IT and why do these POOR PEOPLE etc, etc But the rich have gone too crazy and they've started to siphon the money out of the middle class too hard, so now millennials have a lot more poor people, ALSO the average American is less likely to be white than previously

Don't forget that most of the cool people of the Boomer age group died in the 80s, while Reagan laughed about GRIDS and did nothing.

You can also factor in mild lead poisoning from all the gasoline fumes and lead paint & plumbing that was around in their formative years. It also wouldn't surprise me if the wars and drafts of that era has some effect on things too, where the people who died were the ones not wealthy or connected enough to avoid it.

TVs Ian posted:You can also factor in mild lead poisoning from all the gasoline fumes and lead paint & plumbing that was around in their formative years. Yet another factor that I've read about is that political views tend not to change very much over the course of your adult life, but younger generations tend to be more liberal. So as your generation ages, your views about issues stay the same but society changes around you. For example if a boomer's view on gay people is "let people be gay in their own homes but I don't want to see it in public" that may be pretty conservative today, but when they were 20 and held that same view it was actually progressive since it was a form of acceptance even if it was a very limited one. It's just that the generations after them have accepted gay people to a far greater extent, and so what were progressive views 50 years ago are now conservative views as even-more-conservative older people die and less-conservative younger generations come of age.

Smash tournaments are by far the smelliest. I feel like it's because there's a critical mass of kids who get dropped off at the venue after school and can't go home and shower, but they're nice. my clothes stink after a local. it's really bad. 40k is a unique combination of rear end-reek and aggressive manchildiness. The rando 40k players I've played with are loving LOUD, will scream about rape, yell war cries (i don't mind this) and generally be the most embarrassing. one guy had a big model he kept in a box that his cat apparently pissed in regularly. i enjoy all three of those things deeply but the communities are so awful. my local spot for MTG and Smash, two separate venues and fanbases, both have bottles of febreze strategically placed throughout and laminated psssige aggressive notes about hygiene. I still say 40k is the worst. The rules are so shittily written and everyone will argue about the most minor thing. It's the reason I only ever played with three of my friends for fun. Loved painting and kitbashing, loving hated the game itself. Someone already mentioned the nazi thing but one time I saw a guy get kicked out of a tournament for fielding an Impy Goo army that had swastikas all over the place. He'd even gone to the effort to convert the two headed Imperial eagles into German ones. Dude kept trying to explain that he was just joking around despite his jacket having velcro on the shoulders with no patches.
