I felt the problem with Solo for me was that it was nothing but fan service with almost no original ideas and a super lame thin plot. It fuckin' sucked. Also, Lando was the coolest character in the original trilogy imo and they should have made a Lando movie instead.

Oh and I liked Terminator: Dark Fate. I can absolutely see why it failed and I agree 100% that removing Arnold and Linda Hamilton would have made it way better.

She’s great in it but the film as a whole is extremely dull. It’s frustrating because it feels like it might be one rewrite away from being a solid Terminator film if you just remove Arnold and Linda Hamilton entirely. They’re the worst things about it.

At this point we need to just stop making Terminator movies. We got 2 of the greatest action movies of all time and then a parade of poo poo. If anyone's that desperate to get more stories out of that universe just read the old Dark Horse comics and leave the rest of us out of it.

And Sarah Connor Chronicles was bad stop pretending it wasn't.

Yeah, all I've heard is so much hate for the modern films to the point where I don't even take it seriously. Like I have no investment on if the films are good or not. The original trilogy was fun, but not really my thing. But fun. The prequel trilogy was mediocre but I neither hated it as some did or loved it as others. Again, just not really my thing but fun at its best. I kind of tried to revisit them and give the modern ones a whirl but... like... its too much when its not your thing. I always burn out when I try. But maybe when I finally subscribe to Disney+ (since I never actually saw Captain Marvel/Endgame and its cheaper than buying them on Blu Ray) I might just forget the old stuff and give the new stuff a shot to see if its as terrible as the internet says... or just fun but not really my thing.

After I watch Willow.

I recently picked up a Terminator/some sequel I had never heard of two pack on the cheap so I could add the Terminator franchise to my "dumb, action poo poo to unwind with" kick after I finish Mission Impossible and Fast & Furious. And the Predator franchise. And I guess maybe I'll add Modern Star Wars to it after. I don't watch a lot of action blockbusters.

I watched First Man on HBO last night since its going away soon. Good movie.

Also the first episode of McMillions, which was okay but considering I already know the basic story, took way too long to get on with it. Still, next episode should be better.

It isn’t. The people who hate the new films are just extremely vocal and know how to use social media and YouTube to stir people into a frenzy. And I’m not talking about the folks who have legitimate criticisms and discuss them intelligently, I’m talking about the twitter Nazis with an axe to grind because the films star women and POC. That segment of the fandom has managed to worm their way into so much of the general discourse that it can be difficult to tell who’s actually arguing in bad faith anymore.

My personal takes on the new stuff:
- The Force Awakens is a largely inoffensive film that plays it safe but still remains fun and watchable even if it doesn’t have anything substantial to say.
- Rogue One is, weirdly enough, the one new film where I see the least divided general consensus. It has issues owing to the shaky production, but it’s a well-executed film when it works. Few of the characters are memorable but the action is good and the look of the film as a whole is excellent. Like Solo, it’s not a story that needed to be told but what we got is probably going to end up being one of the better films from this era.
- The Last Jedi is fantastic and one of the best looking Star Wars films around. It has some issues but it at least tries to do new things with the franchise, which is what it sorely needs the most right now.
- Solo is largely unnecessary and the troubled production makes the film a tonal mess but there’s decent stuff in there. Donald Glover and Alden Ehrenreich are good as Lando and Han. No one’s ever going to replace Harrison Ford but Alden channels him well at times without becoming some kind of lovely caricature impression. Probably not a priority to watch, but after you’ve seen everything else you might as well.
- The Rise of Skywalker is another largely inoffensive entry with nothing substantial to say, but lots of casual moviegoer folks seem to enjoy it. I personally think it’s a rotten sequel that fails to adequately follow up on any of the threads left in The Last Jedi and punts the Sequel Trilogy’s finale, but reception in the fandom has been pretty mixed and YMMV.

I still like Star Wars

You just contradicted yourself.

There are tons of legit criticisms of the new star wars disney stuff. Lets not do this plz.

The force awakens: good new characters, but a basic by the numbers repeat of A New Hope

Last Jedi: weirdly paced mess of a film where a chase happens but then is put on pause for days while an adventure happens that goes nowhere, no characters seem to have real agency, a bunch of contrived manufactured drama that isn't exciting and has no clear stakes

Rogue One: legit good star wars war drama, although the first act drags badly. Pacing issues but good story.

Solo: Boring

Of course they do, and that's true of all kinds of subject matters. Doesn't mean we should talk about them, and bringing it up in this way implies anybody who disagrees with you is a Nazi which is a huge derail. You wanna say what you like or don't like, leave it at that.

Saw the new Biggest Loser on USA and it's still promoting extremely unhealthy fitness. They have 360 pound people doing crossfit box jumps and running a mile. Say hello to destroyed knees and ankles. Also one lady lost 5 pounds in one week and the camera cut to everyone looking disappointed that it was so little. How does this show have any credibility when every single previous winner gained all their weight back and more.

It's one of the small handful sword and sorcery movies that is Actually Good rather than just passing the low Good For Its Genre bar. It won't have some angry fandom that's furious it didn't follow the book sequels, but I don't think you're giving it enough credit—the 37 people who remember it really like it.

I think whatever Willow fandom there was can't have possibly liked the Willow sequel books. Those were some of the most... not even incompetent but head-scratching "continuation" ideas ever. As I recall, the opening chapter of the first book kills off everyone but Willow, who then changes his name and is only referred to by his new name from then on out. It's a continuation which completely destroys every link to the original in the first few pages and then tells a generic grimdark 90s fantasy story. All the more weird that they were written by Chris Claremont.
