Are the objectives purely time-based like the vanilla release or the more varied objectives like the Grand Campaigns?

In the build I played all the mission objectives are time based, capture all victory hex before the turn limit. However, in some mission there's bonus objective such as during the invasion of Poland if you advance quick enough you'll disrupt the Polish mobilization effort, causing the enemy to get less reinforcement. In another scenario, if you destroy a strong point, it'll cause the enemy morale to crumble (half the enemy strength in Warsaw become suppressed).

There is random scenario/map generator option but it's not available in the build I played.

Polished off a new version of my Armored Brigade mod:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/nzzgja5tanueav9/lazyFactions%200.45.zip?dl=0

Running with the "what-if" theme, this version adds Prussia as a weird prototype filled Germany. Since there wasn't really much I could find pre-1965 or so, they start with a lot of end of WW2 equipment/prototypes. Quite workable in the early 50s, but once HEAT starts getting thrown around their lack of speed really starts to hurt. Starting in the mid 60s they get Leopards, but it's the bizarre Borgward entry that didn't make it to the final bidding:

One difference is that it's got the Russian 115mm instead of the L7, given the alt-history I'm basing this off of, the UK is socialist and probably wouldn't share it. The 115mm is close enough in terms of capability anyway. Once the 80s hit, they get some tanks based on that goody double-barrelled VT 1-2 prototype. Turretless, but packing twin 120mm cannons.

For now, as with the first pass of the last faction the airforce is just the standard Germany other than a couple Me 262s to fill in up to 1965.

On that note I mostly finished the airforce for the Union. Probably the most unique thing is the Avrocar, which if it had worked was planned to have an 106mm recoilless rifle strapped to it. So basically a scout flying saucer that can (pretty inaccurately) blast a few tanks.

Next up Communist UK! If anyone has any cool flag ideas let me know because I'm not finding any ones that really stand out. I'm thinking once they're done, I might upload a version with just the alt-history factions to the workshop. Given the amount of modification I've had to do for those sprites I feel less sketchy about uploading them than the real-world factions with sprites that are basically just straight dumped from SPMBT.

So I got a chance to play some Panzer Corps 2 and it's looking good so far. As far as I can tell it's almost a 100% recreation of Panzer Corps 1 with new 3D engine and bells and whistles such as a trait system that can really changes up your play style. For example, you can give all your tanks river crossing capability or the ability to cancel out enemy zone of control, or recieving limited amount of random prototypes early. Game runs smooth, animation is snappy, so far pretty good first impression.

How does it compare to Panzer General 2? Any differences, or is it almost like a HD remake?

And as for a flag for a communist england, google "kaiserreich Union of Britain" for a couple good ones. Otherwise if you have a specific request, I can whip one up for ye

Errors on startup? Are you running the most current verson of AB? Those files should have been added in the same game patch that added the France/Belgium DLC.

Just checked by patching my out of date non-Steam AB version to the newest and the files are showing up there now. Try patching using the auto-updater in the launch menu.

There's just more stuff and better graphic I think. Honestly I don't remember all the minute details but the gameplay is very similar.

Yeah it looked really exciting. The fact that devs are building it around the realistic first-person flag officer mode is really encouraging; more wargames should borrow from Radio Commander. I do think the insistence on minimal abstractions might lead to a lot of jankyness though considering how small the team is

I remember there was an Age of Sail game from the 90s where you'd plot out your moves like in a WEGO format, and then the turn would play out, but it would switch to a first-person view from your flagship where you'd watch the next 5 minutes pass on deck

In terms of tonnage allocated to mediocre firepower, yes.

It feels to me like heavy secondary guns take way less weight allocation than they should.

I feel like it only considers the weight of the turrets and ammo, and make no consideration for how the presence of large magazines on the wings would royally gently caress up the internal layout and armour schemes.

Yes, although you can set up a scenario where all-big gun dreadnoughts never became a thing and your 110k 1940's monster with 50 8in guns per side drives through a fleet of 1910 battleships.

Would you guys be interested in a video LP of WitP?

I have always kept all the saves and notes of my old games with the intent of making an LP at some point, but after a couple of abortive attempts at making an SS LP (seriously it took me like 3 hours I think to make the post for turn 1), I have decided the only way it would be at all viable is as a video LP.

I'm not sure I would really watch a video lp of it myself, from the consumer perspective it's definitely suited to screenshots I think, but then on the other hand there's apparently people who watch XTRG's videos at 5hr~ per turn, so maybe some people would?

If so, what would you like to see focused on? Since this would be an LP of a finished game, as opposed to prerecorded videos then released once the game is finished, I won't be able to show what orders I issued, only capture the results. I can largely remember the overall strategies, so I can talk about that, and maybe it would be kind of interesting to only see the results anyway? A bit like real history, you can mostly see what happened but the exact details and the motives are mostly a matter of speculation rather than fact.

What would you actually want to see in a VLP of WitP?

Presumably you don't want to watch battles fold out salvo by salvo, I don't even tend to do that as the player unless it's something really juicy like my battleships wailing on a carrier, but also it's not going to be super interesting if I just mash escape and only show you the results? Or maybe that is better, it would certainly make the videos less tedious and it's the battle results that really count.

I was thinking if I tried to condense the battle replay down to about 5 minutes, and then spent another ~5 minutes talking about the situation and what I can remember of the overall battle plan at the time? I suppose the idea being to try and make the video not take that much longer to watch than a post in a SSLP to read.

Yeah, this sounds pretty good to be honest. I don't need to see hours of people clicking their convoys around; instead a video reaction to the turn resolution, then the video cuts back in after you've already input all your orders, and you go around the map and give a high-level summary of the things you've done / the plans (short and long term) you're setting up, etc.

Could be neat!
