I meant specifically US culture. Like people are showing up to work, the same people that work from home because they can when there was no outbreak, so the boss can see them and they think that will make them look like harder workers or more dedicated or something. The work culture in the US isn't related in any way to merit, ability, or productivity - it's how much you can make it look like you're a dedicated badass who will swim through liquid poo poo to sit in a cubicle, later than anyone else, taking shorter or no lunches, even if your actual contribution is less than zero.

That is why the US will spread it faster and more thoroughly. That and the "but I don't wanna" effect that flows through the veins here. Example: 2 days ago, the local YMCA was packed to capacity. What with, you ask? People bringing their children, nature's most effective disease vectors, together under the same roof to play together because they were tired of quarantining at home. They deserved a break!

Basically the US work culture is the WWE, and the population has taught themselves that they're untouchable.

I know this isn't Star Citizen, but something I'm dealing with with a number of smaller companies is that the owner doesn't trust people to actually work from home. So it's not just the worker, but also the business owner who doesn't believe a work from home system can function.

I'm not like a huge gun nut but I own guns and try to shoot every so often, and the gunplay looks weak and strange even to me as a non gun pro. The animation doesn't feel powerful at all.

But this is kind of the CIG paradox. They spend a ton on animations and motion capture, but anything that animates seems to be their weakest pieces. It definitely all looks better as a jpeg rather than an animated gif or video. :sureboat:

Option 1: The marketing push is really working and people are buying in big. Problem: Once people get playing, are they really going to be as impressed as when they were sold on the game by shills and marketing? The blowback would be spectactular if this was the case.

Option 2: CIG are cooking the books or have new investors they are not telling about and instead funneling it slowly into the funding tracker.

If a company owner can't trust someone to to work from home, then that person needs to reevaluate how they're measuring their employee's value and contributions to the company. An rear end in a seat is not work. If I told my boss I was working from home, he'd know in an hour or two if I was loving off, because my output would not be there. That's true of everyone in my company. I think it'll change as the old guard of "rear end in seat = working hard" die off and people start measuring actual results. We don't pay our people by the hour, we pay a salary to get a certain job done and encourage autonomy. Get it done in 20 hours? Go have fun. Gonna take you 60? Then you better get cracking. I've found that the best employees somehow magically manage to get all their work done in slightly less than 40 hours consistently, whereas the chair-occupying clock-watchers seem to think they're getting paid for being seen.

It's tough because the old guard are stubborn and insistent. My old (now retired) boss hated the idea of working from home because someone might get "distracted" by television or lose focus for 15 minutes, as if the office job was some kind of endurance event based on a clock. The reality is, if you get good people (can't stress that part enough) you're going to get more work out of them long-term specifically because they can take that poo poo break, or play a round of Halo Wars or some poo poo, then get back to the task with a fresh mind, and almost every last one of them works after business hours because that's when they either get a burst of energy, or an idea occurs to them, or they can't sleep, so they remote in and get buttloads of work done.

TL:DR companies need to figure out what they're paying people for: attendance, or value. What is your payroll getting you in return, and how are you measuring it?

Edit: also, Star Citizen.

I don't really believe option 1. It would need to show big increase in number of registered players as well (assuming the old "half of what the tracker shows is buyers"), considering older players have bought most of the stuff already. There has been some increase, but it's not significantly bigger than before.
