femcastra posted:“I’ve heard some teachers might strike, but you wouldn’t do that, would you miss?” That for sure won't happen in NSW cause our union is the ball less wonder that it is. One of the people in my school is in self isolation after showing syptoms but didn't get tested cause he didn't meet the criteria. Waiting for news from the national cabinet meeting while quietly making GBS threads myself and second guessing anything that doesn't feel 100% normal also fuelled by two nights in a row of poo poo sleep

Got an email today, QLD is now making school optional: School operations As you may have heard in his press conference on 22 March 2020, the Prime Minister reiterated the view that schools are an essential part of our community and should remain open. This continues to be the advice of Australia’s chief health officers. Leaders agreed that we cannot see children lose up to an entire year of their education as a result of possible school closures caused by COVID-19. From Tuesday 24 March, Queensland state school parents and caregivers will be offered a choice as to how their children receive their learning. State schools will remain open and parents and caregivers can send their children to school in the knowledge they will be safe. If, however, you wish to keep your children home from school, you may do so. If you choose to keep your children at home, learning materials will be available on the Department of Education’s new learning@home website (qld.gov.au/learningathome). This website has downloadable learning materials, tips for parents and links to other well-regarded, free education websites that parents and caregivers and their children can use. If you choose to keep your child at home, you must be responsible for them. You must ensure they stay at home and that they continue their learning using the material and websites that you can access online. Student attendance As is always the case, I ask parents and caregivers to let our school know if your child will not be attending school, for how long and the reason why. If you choose to keep your child home due to concerns about COVID-19 you can be assured that you have made an acceptable decision. You may have seen media reports last week that claim Education Queensland is ‘cracking down’ on parents who choose not to send their children to school due to COVID-19 concerns and that you are risking prosecution if you have made this decision. The Department of Education has assured all schools that this is incorrect.

Well I hope some businesses are able to survive otherwise I don't know what's going to kickstart the economic recovery in 6-12 months (probably 12) when social restrictions are lifted. This is going to be a brutal long haul. Nothing quick. Also if you have continued employment, spare cash and wanted to buy anything from anyone still in operation... do it now.

Turns out we are staying open as we aren't really public facing and even if we close, all leave will be paid out first to lessen the risk of staff going under financially. I've got quite a lot of holiday and medical leave banked up so its nice to feel semi ok - boss even said it's a perfect time to do some serious internal audits/stocktakes on our warehouses which I've been screaming for over the last few years. Also some IT and machinery infrastructure upgrades/services. A lot of that will also involve other local companies keep staff employed as we contract them to us. Godspeed goons in not as good a position!

Dr. Garbanzo posted:Eat the loving onion Scomo. What is happening with the schools already They'd close them if only we didn't have so many frontline healthcare workers with kids who can either be frontline workers or at home looking after their kids. Bit of an issue. No good answer.

I’m fully aware of that but they can’t keep saying no gatherings over 10 people but schools are completely fine cause they never have more than 10 people in one space at the same time.

Tbh I'll be interested to see what effect this whole bonus payment stuff has with people on centrelink, esp those who aren't in the position to find a new job (ie hospo and retail workers). It's going to be a slog and the last thing we need is for all this economic stimulus dollars to end up in Wesfarmers or Woolworths' pockets alone, it needs to effectively stimulate the economy in a way that keeps small business going. My cousin's new husband runs a landscaping business so he's golden as are most trades tbh

Can't remote desktop, that sounds like a problem for tomorrow Lmao Loving the idea of being able to just wake up, throw on whatever and start the day while my coffee brews etc I been making breakfast with avo on toast, good dose of McCormick bush spices, then topped with cheese, grilled, and a fried egg on top of each Bush spice is seriously underrated and it's hard to find (idk why but it used to be everywhere, now only really at IGA's with a decent spice aisle), and it is tasty as a mf Add some fudgy fried eggs on top with a liberal serve of salt and pepper, that's flavour town you've just arrive in my boy

I think they are tbh, since they undercut the smaller tradie suppliers and ran em out of town they’d have to stay open as long as plumbers and sparkies are doing their thing in a lot of places The more I think about it I think the next big ‘oh gently caress’ moment is 100% gonna be Bunnings only open for wholesale stuff
