Probably a bit of both but also I think he bought into the Trumpian narrative that the lockdown wouldn't be all that long and then we'd have flattened that curve or something and now that he's finding out it's going to be much longer than that (as anyone with half a brain already knew) it's MOVED GOALPOSTS FROM DA DEMS

In fact, the opposite: the US wanted to get its money back for the loans it had made to the Allies in World War One, and put a lot of pressure on Britain and France to make regular repayments, which pushed those countries to put pressure on Germany to make reparation payments.

The US ended up devoting multiple conferences - the Dawes Plan and the Young Plan - specifically to help restructure reparation payments and loan payments into a schedule that all could agree to, but they never sent money or aid to Germany.

Our involvement goes back further than that. The likes of J.P. Morgan and other robber barons profiteering activities are literally the reason we sent 116,516 people to die in WW1. We did not have a dog in that fight outside of ultra wealthy business interest. Really... nothing has changed.

When germany defaulted on their payments France and Belgum got to claim the ruhr valley. Or they held a global conference to make sure they wouldn't Germany defaulted a few times.

It's bullshit.

The 1918-1933 period has to be split in two: there was a period of hyperinflation which Germany used to make its debt and reparation burden go away, but it also made German rentiers poor, so Brüning decided to inverse the polarity and set a course to hyper-deflation, and that period of hyper-deflation lead to massive unemployment and the anger of the working class, who were turning toward Communism. To thwart this threat to Capital, the bourgeois sided with the Nazis and helped them take over.

To this day, Germans continue to hold the view that inflation is bad (because inflation == hyperinflation, and it damages the wealth of rentiers) and deflation is good (because it brings Nazis to power).

Also, Germans were already evil before Hitler because it's not Hitler who invented Lebensraum theory, it's not Hitler who enthusiastically started into WW1 seeing it as the way to establish German hegemony, and it's not Hitler who organized the genocide of the Herero and Namaqua.

“Dynamite guns” in the late 19th century were seen as superior artillery, propelling dynamite charges via compressed air. More lethal upon landing than a shell, less dangerous to the crew as compressed air was less likely to explode than packed gunpowder.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamite_gun

Dynamite was also used as a bomb and as a packed charge against fortifications.

If we go down that route, 99% of the world's population is evil. At that point discussion is worthless and you just wasted everyone's times.

Also your short retelling of German history 1918-1933 is incredibly ignorant. Please stop talking about things you apparently know nothing about.

I think the logic here is that we've flattened the curve, so the danger had passed, and we SHOULD be opening up everything again. The democrats are moving the goalposts by saying we should keep things closed, when we've already done what we needed to do to make everyone safe. They've gone from having a concrete goal (flattening said curve) to a vague one (saving lives), which proves they're just trying to grab power somehow.

The author of this comic doesn't seem great at situational awareness.
