Whenever this is discussed, people pretend like the entire German history from 1918-1933 is like this one, monolithic thing where everything happened all at once and because the economic situation on the day of Hitler's Machtergreifung wasn't bad anymore this means living in the Weimar Republic must have been like living in paradise. Until one day all Germans turned evil for no reason and elected Hitler. It's bullshit.

In fact, the opposite: the US wanted to get its money back for the loans it had made to the Allies in World War One, and put a lot of pressure on Britain and France to make regular repayments, which pushed those countries to put pressure on Germany to make reparation payments. The US ended up devoting multiple conferences - the Dawes Plan and the Young Plan - specifically to help restructure reparation payments and loan payments into a schedule that all could agree to, but they never sent money or aid to Germany. https://history.state.gov/milestones/1921-1936/dawes

Or they held a global conference to make sure they wouldn't Germany defaulted a few times.

I think the logic here is that we've flattened the curve, so the danger had passed, and we SHOULD be opening up everything again. The democrats are moving the goalposts by saying we should keep things closed, when we've already done what we needed to do to make everyone safe. They've gone from having a concrete goal (flattening said curve) to a vague one (saving lives), which proves they're just trying to grab power somehow. The author of this comic doesn't seem great at situational awareness.
