Kraft used to do a powdered cheddar in a shakey cheese jar, kinda like their "parmesan" but finer grained. IIRC it didn't dissolve like KD cheese powder, though. It was available up until at least a few years ago, I liked it as a kid and bought a jar for nostalgia, it then sat at the back of the refrigerator for a year and a half

The BJs here had it in stock last time we were there.

It's kind of rude to compare Lewis to Tolkien, because they just are on such different levels, but still... nice pic.

Yeah, they were contemporaries who often shared and discussed their writings. Supposedly it soured after Tolkien got fed up with Lewis mixing his mythologies.

Tolkien found straight up allegory to be a bit embarrassing. Morgoth was always satan but Jesus never showed up as a golden lion that died to redeem the world, like he did in the first Narnia book. It's true they used to hang out and write letters to each other.

There's a quote from Lewis about Tolkien sharing early drafts. He said "you might as well try to influence a bandersnatch" (??) because Tolkien's response to criticism and suggestions was to either ignore them entirely, or burn the draft and completely start all over again.

Well Lewis was the inferior of the two so it's unsurprising. Ignored when he's wrong and when he's right clearly the draft wasn't up to Tolkien standards.

These kinds of literary nerd friendships are heartwarming to think about, I always have to think of Lovecraft and the Conan guy and how they might have shared ideas on how to handle their respective depression/ anxiety.
