Already mentioned on this page for different reasons, but the Night Lords trilogy spends a decent amount of time on their efforts toward developing some new space Marines. It seems like a pretty grim process, unsurprisingly, without spoiling it.

Theoretically any Apocathary knows how to perform the process, but it requires a lot of resources and equipment, and has a high fail rate. Assuming you can find an Apocathary that isn't mad or terminally mutated or whatever.

Just started reading The Emperor's Legion, the first book in the Watchers of the Throne series. The passage where Valerian takes his journey down into the throne room of the palace is the coolest thing I've ever read in the Black Library. So different from how I imagined the golden throne, so much cooler. Chris Wraight really did a great job.

Fabius isn't the only Chaos dude who knows how to make new marines but he's probably the only one with a reasonable shot at making Chaos' answer to the Primaris project. He was making meaningful (if very mad-sciency) improvements to the space marine template all the way back before Fulgrim turned evil due to touching a bad sword.

Can anyone explain how the Warhammer End Times books worked? Amazon has a five novel bundle, but it also lists pairs of softcover books that I'm sure were also released in premium hardcover. For instance "Warhammer End Times: Khaine" has one book with 144 pages of story and another with 48 pages of rules. Is the story the same one that's in the ebook novels that includes The Curse of Khaine by Gav Thorpe? Khaine softcover ebook collection I'm curious to read these, even though the story might get binned like Star Wars Legends when they bring The Old World back.

I kind of hope they finish up the Dark Imperium novels even with the implied timeskip, granted it was a ton of bolter porn / new model featuring but I kinda liked the additional looks into the Death Guard and Guilliman's coming to grips with the state of the modern Imperium.

I think it's just going to be a more cohesive series like Beast Arises. It may even pick up where DI left off?

It's official ending happens near the beginning of the first book, in fact. Dawn of Fire takes place before Dark Imperium, the same way that the Psychic Awakening stuff does....during the Crusade. It turns out that after getting used to every last minute of the Horus Heresy being examined in excruciating detail, 40k fans were not willing accept a century long time skip that said "and the Indomitus Crusade happened." So GW through Psychic Awakening and BL through Dawn of Fire, are going back to right after the Fall of Cadia and filling in the blanks as to what the hell actually happened during the Indomitus Crusade, which will be their next big project for years, I imagine. Maybe, if we're very lucky, they'll deign to finish Dark Imperium, if only to resolve Bobby vs Morty on Iax, but given BL's tendency to truncate trilogies into duologies without prior notice (looking at you Gothic War novels, among many others) we may never get that. Or they'll cover it in two paragraphs of fluff in the 9th edition Marine Codex, whenever that happens.

It's actually one of the earliest battles of the Crusade because everyone and their mother tried to take Vigilus as soon as everyone realized how important it was, so Bobby sent Marneus and friends to hold it, which succeeds at the cost of Marneus getting his poo poo kicked in by Abby, requiring him to become a Primaris to survive. Vigilius is the last stand of small marine Marneus Calgar, and he's Primaris in everything since then, including the Dark Imperium books.

I just finished Fire Caste by Peter Fehervari, which was great but seems like it was only accidentally a 40k novel. The dude wrote Requiem Infernal which was very 40k and also great. I was on a tau binge when I saw it and thought, neat, a tau novel by a good writer. And again, it was pretty drat good but only peripherally a tau novel I feel.
