Ok cool. All of my tier missions rolled over to super hard and I just started doing very hard so I probably won't hit level 20 before the new pass next week but I'll probably be able to finish the next one so that's good enough for me.

But speaking of tier missions, one is to defeat 5 rappies and it's stuck at 2/5 and I guess my definition of defeating rappies differs from Sega's because I don't know what to do

You can spend 25 star gems to get +1 tier in the mission pass. The mission pass also rewards 25 star gems at some tiers. Are you stockpiling star gems for something else? You can also get star gems from other achievements or w/e the missions are called. I got some for playing around with lookbooks the other day.

bows are great but they take a bit of effort to get used to and fully master, even the basic attack is a projectile that can miss! (if you aren't chargin')

I think I only have about 200 gems now so not enough to get all the way to tier 20 but I'll definitely keep it in mind to check before the pass rolls over.

Maybe final pass question but I'm playing a Newman and don't intend to roll any new characters, so the cast parts from the pass would only be useful for my auxiliaries right? I should choose the other option instead?

There's an enemy category list here, just check whatever type of enemy it is. If you're looking for Falspawn, check Darkers:

If I'm not sure what type of enemy it is, I search the name on that wiki instead.

I can't avoid filling a game with awful memes, even if I want to. It's in my bones...!
So a few Bouncer questions to help me understand the underlying mechanics of the class:

- By default, the basic melee of the Jboots uses TEC rather than MEL, right? And that one skill converts the basic melee over to MEL-scaling?

- Passive stances are just always on (unless explicitly canceled by an Active, like Valiant/Wise Stance) and do stack, correct? So BoFi can run element and valiant at the same time, and that's the idea with that build?

- I recall the tutorial bringing up that spells can be worked into the basic melee combo and could even lead to new Variant moves, but it seemed a bit vague. What's the deal there? (I know that some of the Variants cast things like Shifta and Deband on use.)

- How exactly does the element swap from charging a spell at full meter work mechanically? Does it simply swap the weapon element currently equipped? What's the power of the added element? If I have boots with Light 50 and swap to Fire, does the Light get replaced with Fire 50?

something you can do in game is select the orange tab at the top of the client orders window and check each area, the quest should be listed under the area they expect you to run to complete the order. if the target is a boss but not listed as the boss of the expedition check if theres a sub->ark quest called "Subdue X" that guarantees a spawn of it.

I'm also just getting into PSO2 and after reading up, here's my take on these questions:

SpaceDrake posted:

Yes. The way I see it is that the MEL scaling is most useful for making Jet Boots and Soaring Blades scale off the same stat so when you get to augmenting you can boost both of them. And for occasional use with other classes with an all-class Jet Boot.

quote:

- Passive stances are just always on (unless explicitly canceled by an Active, like Valiant/Wise Stance) and do stack, correct? So BoFi can run element and valiant at the same time, and that's the idea with that build?

Yes, and this is why Hunter, Fighter, and Summoner are the most popular sub classes. Braver has high multipliers on Precision stance, but it doesn't go as high as Fighter with their other skills and has no defensive options that Hunter/Summoner would bring and so is generally an inferior option afaik. BoFi is a super glass cannon build that's designed to stick around at low HP to take advantage of all the Slayer skills, and can also more easily self apply status effects to take advantage of the Chaser abilities through some of the Jet Boot PAs/natural access to tech casting.

quote:

- I recall the tutorial bringing up that spells can be worked into the basic melee combo and could even lead to new Variant moves, but it seemed a bit vague. What's the deal there? (I know that some of the Variants cast things like Shifta and Deband on use.)

Strike Gust variant action auto casts Shifta. Grand Wave variant action auto casts Deband. Surging Gale variant action auto casts Zanverse. Each of these have uses mid combat and let Bouncer maintain buffs without stopping to manually charge/cast them.

- How exactly does the element swap from charging a spell at full meter work mechanically? Does it simply swap the weapon element currently equipped? What's the power of the added element? If I have boots with Light 50 and swap to Fire, does the Light get replaced with Fire 50?

This one I'm not sure about and would like some answers too.

Natural 20 posted:

So I've been playing this a while.

There's a core of this game that I like but it's just utterly riddled with frustrations.

It's tremendously difficult to figure out what's an upgrade at a glance. You just pick up everything, dump it in storage and then comparing it against your gear becomes a complete nightmare. The piles of systems on top of each other are basically completely indecipherable even with help. Just the billions of different currencies I have with no concept of what their value is makes making informed decisions far too difficult. I've been trying to read all the good posts here about how you're meant to fuse weapons or select out upgrades but it's difficult to even figure out what applies to levelling characters and what doesn't, let alone how it might work at high level or how you should plan for it.

Coupled with this is the idea that I have no idea if I'm even doing anything half the time in fights. There are no health bars so I have no concept or baseline as to whether I'm actually doing something well or badly. So I have no idea if my gear needs an upgrade, if my gear is fine but I'm playing badly or if I'm just in an area that's too difficult for something my level. This has basically led to a world now where I just get oneshot by enemies or kill them, with no in between. Which basically removes any interesting attack/fade style design from the game.

In addition to this are the amazingly frustrating control problems. I play gunner and my entire boss dps rotation comes from selecting a part and nailing it with chain trigger 'tilI stack a full combo. The trouble is that bosses have thousands of different body parts that block your attacks, so you can chain trigger, fire at something and hit something else entirely. And then you have to deal with the lock on, which is possibly the stupidest thing in the entire game. I have no idea how this thing selects its targets. I try to point my joystick in the direction of the thing I'm targetting, no dice, it just targets another body part or a trash mob somewhere on the floor, meaning all this time that's meant to feel good and fun is spent just trying to wrestle the lock on onto the target I want to hit.

This is again, compounded by the camera issues the game has. As a gunner I'm meant to be airborne a lot but the camera just can't cope with that in a meaningful way, especially given that the camera also doubles as your lockon targetting mechanism. So half the time I'm sat with a camera facing absolutely nothing whilst my character fires shots to a place off camera on the ground.

When it finally does work and I build a combo, it feels like almost complete RNG as to whether my finisher will actually hit the target I'm aiming for and again, because there's no healthbar on anything, if I can't see the golden numbers show because the camera's off in a corner somewhere I have no idea what's gone on.

Broadly I'm unsure if I'm going to keep playing like this. I want to believe it gets better in the endgame when you've got gear to fix things but levelling is absolutely glacial now that I'm 50, so I'm tempted to just get off the train here.

I feel completely in tune with everything in this post.

I want to like PSO2 but like, the game is making it really hard. I never have any sense of if I'm doing what I'm supposed to or if I'm just wasting time.

Like, people were shocked when I said "Yeah, I'm level 27 and have only done the forest zone" but like, the game gives zero guidance on anything. I did the forest zone, did casino quests, did everything I could find from the hub area, threw in some urgent quests and wowie zowie, I'm level 27. I find the difficulty tuning is really weird too. I'm either killing stuff in two hits or getting killed in two hits by things. I feel like there's very little in between.

Also - just the menu to accept explorations/group up with people is loving confusing as poo poo.

I also just have a hard time parsing which abilities are worth using because I feel like none of them really flow together. Like, I still just don't understand the standard flow of combat. I feel like I must be doing something just critically wrong in how I play because everyone I've spoken to acts like the best part of PSO2 is the combat and going into zones and fighting endless monsters, but I've actually found the combat really awkward and unfun.

I'm playing a Hunter because i thought "how can you gently caress up just fighting with a big sword" and turns out hunter loving sucks because every monster just moves around spastically and all the photon art animations just lock you in place. I play a dark knight in FFXIV and I never feel like I can't hit the enemies.

- Fo/Te or Te/Fo?
- why are katana parries so fun?

Its weird but I kind of like the loose structure of the game, reminds me of RO when you pretty much ran around murder hoboing whatever for your hats/cards/gear. Do more expeditions to open more zones to murderhobo in!

When I was playing hunter I used that inital spin PA you get liberally whenever I felt I needed a little more reach. Theres also a air slash PA out there too if you want to get more ranged options. I think the partisian has a charge move that is pretty speedy too.

Fo/Te. Te actually wants Hu sub so they can get into melee for wand focus.

I’d probably find parries and weapon actions in general more fun if I had a non-wheel third mouse button. That said, anyone know of any cheap but good three-button nice?

Sword is a little slow by nature and excels at wailing on one or a couple large semi-mobile targets. It does have some gap closers like Guilty Break and non-charge skills like Twister Strike and Sonic Arrow. My recommendation though would be to try the Wire Lances, they are extremely good for slaughtering groups of small jumpy enemies (Twist Driver and Wild Cyclone are my preferred spam skills).
