That's not like a bad thing. It actually sounds like a totally interesting approach. But practically it seems like the characters are slaves to that message and betray their own behavior for it. But I could see how more context could correct that impression too.

It's fascinating specifically because it's a big-budget film-influenced video game, so he's in a position where he's the first creator in the medium who even has the chance to make these kinds of mistakes in the first place. On the face of it, it's a perfectly reasonable conclusion to a revenge story, but it's the kind of conclusion which would make ten times more sense with a character who doesn't have Ellie's history. You've just spent 25+ hours killing people, so why is this the sudden come-to-Jesus moment where Ellie realizes the entire thing is a futile endeavor? Does her murder boner go limp when it's actually personal? It'd make a lot more sense if this was the ending you got on a pacifist run, were such a thing ever possible in Naughty Dog games.

I didn't "watch it" watch it, I kinda skimmed through it for a few seconds, not about to sit through a whole 10 minute youtube. I've still got to make dinner and do some other things around the house, don't have all the time in the world. Maybe fold some laundry.
