I genuinely dislike Tool over meeting too many Tool fans irl. Like not someone who is a casual listener who doesn't mind Tool but the stalwarts who think Maynard is a genius and not just some rear end in a top hat. I've had interactions with people (when I was 17 mind you) where the first thing they've said to me after being introduced was if I liked the band or not.

I'm also pretty pissy about all my otherwise lefty friends who memory holed his loving rape allegation the second there was a new Tool album out

are you me? I helped a friend of a friend finish his move in exchange for food and weed. as we were sitting in the taco bell line, high as balls, he forces tool's song that's built on the Fibonacci sequence? He started to squirt cum from his mouth as he breathlessly praised Maynard, and when the song ended he asked what we thought of it, and both of us were not impressed and didn't give a gently caress and it absolutely broke him.

Fun poo poo

I've never had anyone before or since get offended at the phrase, "Hey man it's just not for me." but he absolutely did lol

I secretly like Limp Bizkit. I guess I grew up at just the right time for it to be imprinted on my brain. Even today I can listen to Break Stuff, Rollin', My Way, Nookie, I enjoy all of them. I know I'm one of the few who does, and I know how embarrassing it is, but I cannot change it.

I had only heard the hits before though, the first time I sat down and listened to one of their albums out of curiosity was this year. I listened to Significant Other (their highest rated album on rateyourmusic.com with a startling 2.49 out of 5.0) from beginning to end and I can honestly say it is the worst album I have ever heard. Every song on it that was not a single sounds like a terrible band at an open mic wrote it in haste right before they went on stage.

There is a whole genre of Toxic White Male Ego music, and it's like, Trapt, Stone Sour has a song that's in that vein, it shows up a lot on the few remaining rock stations.

I used to have a car with a broken cd player, no aux, and no tape deck so i was stuck listening to radio if I wanted noise and yeah, it's an entire thing. Lots of angry dudes listening to music that's entirely about how badass the singer is and bitch if you gently caress with me i'll tear you up!!!!!

That's me with Limp Bizkit songs (only the hits!) and yeah it's great, it's very freeing when you stop caring how technically good something is and start enjoying it for Fred Durst's shrill white guy angst raps. You only get one life, don't live it trying to fit in with how bad people think Limp Bizkit is (they're bad!)

I'd like to add that System of a Down blows, too. Something about that Armenian dork opera singing to rock is complete rear end and the only reason he is even attributed as a "good" singer is that the genre as a whole cannot sing.

serj is unique but his political messaging sucks and a bunch of the songs are made tedious by it

but they've got good output too. The goofier songs are the better ones.

just to address the last 60ish posts SOAD suck Faith No More arent nu-metal (but are just as overrated and not as significant as Mike Patton dorks would have you believe) and Tool fans can suggest whatever track order they like it doesnt change a thing if you think their music is terrible (I dont think that but I do think they are overrated)

also no sex by the bizkit is absolutely a fine song and was the sleeper track on that album FIGHT ME.

I saw that concert at Giants Stadium when I was 14 and was miserable through the openers. I remember Limp Bizkit had a section of seats boxed off so Fred Durst could sing from the box seats for like half a song and it was the dumbest gimmick ever.

Metallica ruled though, and I was delighted they didn’t play anything from Saint Anger even though it had come out like the month before.

I was 11 around the height of Nu Metal and you bet your rear end it sucked me in. Bit of cross posting from another thread but back in the day, they would put out all these horror film/action film soundtracks full of nu metal bands where like 2 of the songs were in the movie and the rest had nothing to do with it. I owned all of them.

The Queen of the Damned, The Scorpion King, Freddy vs Jason soundtracks instantly come to mind and it's how I learned of most nu metal bands. And then of course WWE would use most of the same singles for their PPVs. I was no match.
