That's just wild to me. Alright, your upgrade system sucks and you need to remove it. But couldn't you just like...include the upgrades as seperate, buyable spells later on? Or something of that nature? Literally the worst thing you could do is just gut a class and go "ehhhhh, it's probably fine"

Random Child Abuse! Alcoholism! Dreaming! Tea Parties! Poison! Jizz Stained Pornography! Child Abuse! Decisions Lie Before Us! Vote on which two of three party members should stay with us: The Outsider, Sonia Greene Carter, or The Nameless Soldier The internet seems to believe we can romance the Outsider, which may influence your decision.

Let's take Sonia, for the off chance we run into Carter with her in tow, and The Nameless Soldier, just to let the Outsider take a break.

Another update, another bunch of... Eh, nah. No big post from me this time. Update covers what I would've had and more anyways. -Guggle, apparently is a word. Why they used it (and how they even found it) instead of babble I have no idea. That's, uh. It, actually. Huh. The Outsider and The Nameless Soldier. Outsider is good enough to always take, heard the soldier is good but decided to go with Sonia on my playthrough on a whim. Oh, if you don't get Sonia, mind showing off what happens if you ditch a full partymember? Save first of course.

I remember The Dream Quest of Vellitt Boe being a good revisitation of the Dreamland stuff, though it's been a while since I read it. Definitely way better than this, at least.

FYI, I think you used the wrong screenshots at the beginning of the update. The first one is Wheat grabbing his whiskey and the second is him handing some of it to you. Also gonna vote for Outsider and Soldier cuz those two seem the most interesting.

Got a good audio recommendation, but it might be difficult to access outside the Uk. You know those True Crime podcasts like Serial? That same premise as set-up and style, only the case they're investigating is a classic Lovecraft story. Season 1 is the Case of Charles Dexter Ward, the second was The Whisperer in Darkness. They're BBC audiodrama productions and everythings been updated to the modern day. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06spb8w/episodes/player

Votes are in, Sonia is out, but by popular request I'll try to show off what happens when you boot a party member. From what I've heard it happens inconsistently.

Ambush of Sheer loving Incompetence This update features naked titties so maybe don't open this one at work. I hope people aren't mad that I'm just summarizing some of the minor NPCs, but I transcribe all this poo poo from screenshots so it takes a while. Dead horses! Ghouls! Dungeons! Pornography! Straight up naked tits! Dreaming! Bugs! I'm now willing to say that, yes, this is the worst game I have ever played. Do not buy this game. Do not give the devs money.

And the awful just keeps coming. It's funny how this makes Numenera look competent because at least that game was stable. This combines the same problems with Numenera with incompetent programming it's kind of great.

Man, I love a good terrible game and this one is knocking it out of the park. I don't think it's quite Bloodnet levels of "dummied out poo poo that doesn't work is littered everywhere", but it's certainly trying!

I did like the touch of the abstract impossible geometry dreamscape being both visually distinct and fairly interesting in use of colour and the way stuff is represented. The descriptions of the abstract things impossible to understand were of course stupid and unnecessary, as you can at first glance guess, reasonably accurately, that the giant pink face with geometric motifs maybe isn't something that belongs in the real. Still, I liked that vista, how it had a completely different (and also not boring and dreadful) colour palette and some nice alien lighting to it, which shows basic competence in art direction and it was nice while it lasted. E: nice portrayal of schizophrenia, devs. For a clown to make. So I was torn between buying this and the Call of Cthulhu game and I'm glad I went with the Call of Cthulhu game. I am a sucker for anything Lovecraft and this game would have broken me to be honest. My fascination with the post-apocalyptic led me to buy Atom RPG and that was a disappointment. I highly encourage it as your next foray into terrible. I've never associated Lovecraft stories with prohibition or the mafia and that strikes me as such a weird addition to this game. I think Dark Corners of the Earth did early 20th century New England better than this. (And it is mentioned in the Call of Cthulhu game but they actually do it well. Seriously, go play that one, it's short but it's awesome.)

That's text, though; you could argue it's the same medium. I was about to mention The Last Door but that's unspecified cosmic horror rather than Lovecraft.

PEE-PEE INTO FOO-FOO The developers desperately want this to seem ominous, but they are also marketing it to Lovecraft fans who have actually read his stories and are just rolling their eyes at how loving tedious and unoriginal this poo poo is. Also this game actually does something kind of right for once. I'm as shocked as you are. Madness! Prostitutes! Misunderstanding Lovecraft! Incompetence! Mi-go! BRAINS! Apparently Wikipedia claims it could be Nyarlathotep or a Mi-go. Personally I think Wikipedia is full of poo poo. TheGreatEvilKing fucked around with this message at 08:39 on Jul 18, 2020 |

Gort posted:What was up with Sinking City? I remember it had a decent trailer. It has a truly shockingly terrible "open world" where you have to trudge through empty streets or slowly ride a boat through flooded canals; there is nothing to do in these sequences, and it only exists to pad out the game. There are some very limited opportunities for exploration, but exploration and resource management are virtually meaningless. Combat is clunky and there are only three enemy types. And the meat and potatoes, which is supposed to be the detective system, boils down to clicking on multiple glowing items in an area until a cutscene plays. It's just a waste of time.

Not all that much for me to say this time. Well, except oh no, but declarations of varyingly toned oh no is just an expected part of the Stygian Experience (tm) at this point. -Radio fellow who's name I've forgotten already: I recall rationalists had a bit more to say about monsters with him; something about how they were improbable over impossible or that there was no reason they couldn't exist within the realm of science. Something to that effect. -Nothing new, but it increasingly bugs me that Marino keeps using Cornuto after explaining what it means instead of switching it for a different insult or dropping it entirely. -what. Add that insanity line with the prostitute to the list of things I 'missed' out on. --It's oddly fitting; a maximum sanity build doesn't just mean you get to mostly ignore the sanity mechanic, you also get to ignore the consequences of going mad because, well. You never end up seeing just what rubbish Stygian would make your character say/do because of it, insulating the player from the poorly handled horror that is stygian. -Remember the bank visited way back when? For folks who played the demo to the end that would have been their first introduction to the Mi-Go. Was it meant to throw players off the trail for the full game's plot? Was it an indicator that the plot was once rather different? Was it just put there to add a tense cliffhanger? Possibly the last one, but the world will never know. -The game might consider being a brain in a jar a bad ending, but honestly? Given the circumstances it really doesn't seem like the worst outcome. Shame about your team being left behind though. -Speaking of oh no, recall how henchmen were outside the usual party limit? But strangely there has only been one henchman so far? Unfortunately there's another one. Our LP'r might want to add a few points of psychology via console for that encounter. Mhhhhm, think that about covers it.

I just want to highlight how GreatEvilKing's analysis of the themes of original Lovecraft for the sake of comparison with the purported themes, and tone of Lovecraft as presented in the game make for a sincerely enjoyable read that I hope to see more of, and dare I say the only way this game can possibly be interesting.

I start the update and it starts with incredibly floral verbal diarrhea about Stanley's corpse. Try saying that poo poo all in one breath. That thing's an excessively run-on sentence, never mind how stupid it sounds.

The insanity is really badly done. Every time it pops up and every time the NPC just shrugs it off just makes it even worse. Still, they have enough reactivity to make the creep double the price if you call him a creep. That's uh...+1?

I don't want to make LPing this awful mess any harder but... would it be possible for in the screenshots to either mouse over the option you are going to take, or none of them? Or is it because the selected option is less readable in screenshots?

I'd say it's less readable in the screenshots (they're pretty small already), and GreatEvilKing's putting the one chosen in the updates like they do all the other dialogue.
