Consumables: none // Items: Biological Sample // Notes: none Listen Along: Canned Heat - Jamiroquai The scent of toxic methane reached Theo Reticule's nostrils, and instantly the dog-boy's sharpened canine senses informed the human side of him that he wanted to retch. "Masks up! We got some Bad Gas incoming." Theo barked to Bonny-Anne, as though he was giving the orders around here instead of sharing friendly advice. Staring out across the waste fill they were hunkered down in, Theo started to pull deep, long breaths of his oxygen tank to calm his nerves before the enemy finally arrived. Those Gristlegrinders were prowling nearby, Theo knew it without a reasonable doubt. Theo's ears perked up at noise. Something was coming to their particular pile of junk out here among the junk-strewn grease marshes. The sound of footsteps approached fast, splashing through puddles of fat... it betrayed a bipedal gait, meaning it wasn't that of a cyborg attack dog. A mutant, perhaps? Theo braced himself for whatever it was that might appear. Just before Theo could get a look good look at whatever it was approaching, a beastly purple Dropper landed down right next to Theo's hiding spot and took aim at the approaching figure with a cruel-looking lightning thrower. It was the special target, the Drop Tardigraider from the Wrecking Crew Announcements! That crazy-dangerous sentient bear-thing must be following... Ra Maximum was here?! What luck! The pink-skinned Wrecker must have gotten Theo's broadcast after all! Theo didn't pause to contemplate the appearance of this dangerous target, instead he crept forward with his hammer "Rusty" until he got well within power-charge range. The Unbalanced K-Hammer thrummed in Theo's hands as he powered up his suit's reactive gyros and charged his prey, knocking the Drop Tardigraider's proverbial socks off and sending the purple people-eater bouncing brokenly off the fleshy walls beyond. Theo marked the body's landing site and turned to witness the rest of the carnage playing out. From what he could see, the Gristlegrinders were chasing after Ra Maximum and angling after Bonny-Anne in her Gamma Enforcer, which she'd stood back up to its full height to make a shot. Thinking fast, Theo started swinging his Unbalanced K-Hammer Rusty at the various loose piles of scrap and garbage tissue around him, sending chunks of debris flying at the three hellion hounds to blind and distract them. Ra Maximum, everybody!" Theo cheered, clapping his heavy durashock gloves. The battle was finished, thanks to Ra. Theo slung his K-hammer on his pack's back and then danced and shimmied his way over to where he saw the Dropper land. What Theo found inside the Dropper's packs included piles of Scrap and a Handgunner Helper, a special sort of pistol that fired Wrecking Crew-approved Assist Flares. "Score!" he reported, bopping his head to the TuneZEN beat. Theo holstered the gun and bagged the scrap into three portions and turned around to see Ra Maximum staring at him with a baleful gaze. "Hhrhhhh..." the Wrecker hissed. The Bad Gas must be getting to him. "Wrecker number twelve. Here at the center of everything." The pink man's wizened eyes flicked aside from behind his mask and scanned what little remained of the Dropper. "I will not kill you, no," stated Ra. He nodded, saluted and moved on. There: like that, he and Theo were Wrecker allies. Slightly perturbed by the spooky interaction, the dog-man Junker Theo issued an order to his Autofalconoid and resumed searching the Tardigraider for any other hidden goods, and while he searched, he scanned the Wreckfeeds to get an idea of what the other Wreckers were up to. As he walked back to the camp, Theo gave his assessment to his co-Wrecker teammates: "So: Wreckfeeds're showin' me: #1, #14, and #7 are krewing together, a couple clicks away from the map-west Strato-Cradle. Numbers 5 and 6 are palling around somewhere elsewise. Veteran Wreckman Talcum Bee Buzzen made it to the Fabric8r, and Wrecker #8's just appeared at the Rig Silo." "Advise..?" Theo said over the local comms, just as he noticed that Ra Maximum had apparently blown a fuse in his cybernetics just ahead. Twin stacks of superhot metals protruded from the base of Ra Maximum's skull, and the Wrecker seemed to be frozen in place. Theo waved a hand in front of Ra Maximum's face and got no reaction. He looked to Bonny-Anne and shrugged. Rather than bother the Wrecker - who was clearly locked in some kind of emergency cooling cycle - Theo took a bag with some scrap from his haul in it and tied it around the frozen Wrecker's wrist so that he wouldn't miss the gift when he booted back up again. As he hustled his way over to Bonny-Anne and her rig, Theo took deep draws from his air tanks and permitted his suit to begin repairing the damage done by the Ribbon Skates to his suit and his body. Sponsors: So I'm thinking, Magitek Mafia - does it make sense for you to make a Sponsor Challenge that you think me, Bonny-Anne, and/or Ra Maximum could reasonably complete in the next couple rounds? Would that be too, uh, corrupt of an ask? I don't exactly know where the line gets drawn with you guys! Magitek Mafia has 10 Luxe, enough to buy a new Challenge slot and make a Challenge that we could complete in the next round, and you'd get 5L back. Alternatively, if you get your Stipend soon without making a new Challenge, you'll have 20 Luxe and I'll have 2... which is almost enough to afford a shipment of some Experimental Combat Suite Armor! "Take the trophies you like. We might want to negotiate for some sample rights, but I suspect that most of these proteomes are proprietary, and frankly the vat-thing isn't looking promising anyway. I was wondering if we might have some interesting neuroplasticity there, but... only regular plasticity, it appears. It really is a shame --" Susan's comms unit (one of the retro-chic models shaped like a "phone"-proportioned rectangle) goes off. "Dizzy? ... yes, yes, I've been meaning to get to that. For supply requisitions -- weapons are absolutely not my specialty. Dizzy, you've known me since before my arms grew in, I thought you'd have realized I don't know the first thing about weapons..." Soon, Cyka receives a sponsor narrowcast: "Cyka? This is Dismas Phlanges, Brainfood Special Solutions. 'Special Solutions: making sure you're not the precipitate,' yada yaya, yeah. I'm working your supply request, but we have a little snag. Rates for guns and drones heading into CYST are spiking -- go figure, right? Supply and demand, at it again. Point is, if you want a gundrone with a keeper gun, that's gonna run you a little more than we've got in wreckin'-around money. You want a modkit or something, we can do that, or if you wanna scrape up a little more luxe and give us a little more time with the revenue stream, that's an option. But if you need a gun, and you need it now... well, I can call some guys and make it happen, but it's gonna be an upcycled model. Really, more like sidecycled. 'Fell off a mining hauler and hit the dirt hard'-cycled. You thinking patience, or you thinking we play Supplier Roulette? Your call, I'll make it happen."

Sponsored by Brainfood Upcycled Nootropics. If you aren't feeding your brain, try opening that drop pod again. Quiet muttering into the comms ensues. Sponsors: Hey there, Dismas. Glad to get your greets on the grid. Yeah, I can be patient, and it could be smart to play the long game here. Modding a gun is a possibility, but with the armor on these folks I'd need to get a fair bit luckier on the upgrade than seems likely: The Stinger is a decent KO weapon if you get a great hit in but doesn't put a dent in anything with a carapace. Better save it for the big gun if I get to the rig silo, yeah? Hold off for now, I'll try to rack up the kills and get some cash.

A beaten up monitor shows the board room of Novatech, a leading provider of solar power equipment, nearly the entire C-Suite is assembled and clearly annoyed at being made to wait. After a few moments two people enter the room, one of them well-dressed but clearly uncomfortable, the other dressed in an old trench coat and visibly relaxed. At their approach one of the men in the room jumps to their feet and shouts: "Thompson, what the hell is this, why did you call a board meeting? And to make us wait? Do you have any idea how much poo poo you're in?" The woman in the trenchcoat pushes Johnson, who is now visibly sweating, into a chair, before addressing the man who had just yelled: "Mister Sugimori, how nice of you to come. I'm afraid Steven didn't call this meeting entirely of his own volition, he merely followed a request of mine." Sugimori is clearly taken aback at the woman addressing him, but still tries to rally and starts retorting: "What, who the gently caress are you? What are you- He is interrupted as the woman draws a Pertinax Ammunition Fabrication Systems - Charon Pattern™ Pistol from her coat and points it at him. "Do feel free to shut up, the reason I had Steven assemble you here is that I want to give you a short safety presentation, you corporate types do love presentations so much, don't you?" With that she presses some buttons on the table and the room enters presentation mode, the lights dimming, the doors locking and a holoprojector springing to life. After a wave of her gun Sugimori decides that caution is the better part of valor and sits down again. "Now, Gentlemen. The topic for today's safety presentation will be how to spot danger. Now, can anyone tell me what this is, and why you should be afraid of it? A picture begins floating in the room, courtesy of the projector: Sugimori tried to rally and to seize back control over the meeting: "Why do you waste our time like this, that's clearly a boa constrictor that's eaten an Elephant, a six-year old could tell you that, we've all seen the holovids. And why do you think we should be afraid of it? They're long since extinct, and even if they weren't, we have legions of security guards equipped with the latest Dubhàn body armor standing by to take care of primitive animals like that" "See, this ignorant line of thinking is exactly why I'm here today Mr Sugimori" the woman replied "If you idiots had taken the smallest bit of time to look below the surface you would have found out why you should be afraid. Your company recently acquired the rights to the Solar-Venusian L1 point, did you not?" A round of agreement goes around the room "And you started working on building a solar farm there to power the atmo-Habitats floating in the Venusian atmosphere, didn't you?" Another round of agreement "And you further had a meeting with one Theobald Walden?" Sugimori smiles smugly as he replies "That union nut who wanted us to let him organise the satellites' workers and demanded insane things like a 12 hour workday? Yeah, I did, and I threw him out the airlock personally. Dang pinkos!" The woman sighs audibly and pinches the bridge of her nose "See, there it is again. If you had done the smallest amount of due dilligence, you'd have found out that Mr Walden worked for my boss and was organising the union on their behalf. Do you know what happens to that "boa constrictor" of yours if you peel away the top layer?" The projector clicks silently and moves on to the next image: A murmur goes through the conference room and several faces go visibly white out of fear. "Yes, see, because you couldn't be arsed to do your loving job, you idiots murdered an agent of the Magitek Mafia, working to develop a new smuggling site. Now, if it were up to me, I'd make an example out of one or two of you for the future, since you clearly didn't know what you were doing, but ignorance is no excuse and my employers decided that a bigger signal was needed in order to drive home the message for others" She releases the security on her gun and points it at Sugimori, who's now sporting a wet patch on his suit trousers The tape stops and the two Pertinax Corpolice Officers watching it take a long drag from their Brainfood-branded cigarettes. "Anyway, that's when she started blasting, and, well you can see the outcome" They motion their head to the meeting room behind them, covered in bits of gore and chunks of COO, CFO, etc "Magitek is paid up this month?" their partner queries? "Yup, as usual" "Well, let's get the cleaners up in here then, they know the drill"
