My friend took a walk this morning on Hamra street about 8km (~5 miles) away from the blast and says there was broken glass everywhere.

They say only like a 100 people died from it and I imagine most of those were people at the port. I doubt someone at that distance would die, I mean even the phone didn't break But maybe I'm just being naive

With the size of that explosion the number of dead is likely to remain uncertain and rising for a while. Likely weren't that many people living in the immediate area around the explosion, which was a harbor, warehouse area, though maybe still a number of workers (though at 6 PM local time, many were probably done for the day). If anyone wants a really old comparison, the Halifax explosion in 1917 killed 2000 people and more or less obliterated all buildings in an 800 meter radius.

Do you just genuinely not understand how livestreaming apps work?

Do you just genuinely not understand how livestreaming apps work? There haven't been "several" (one actually that I've seen) and I wouldn't count twitter comments as confirmation. You also seem to be overestimating how much glass is flying around and how lethal that is. Look at the wedding video that's been posted a few times. They're standing in an open square that is full of windows and you can see them survive and run away. I'm sure thousands are cut up but it's not some movie where crowds are just collapsing after being sliced to tiny pieces.

Have you seen the videos people have posted from inside officers/apartment buildings? There's been a fuckton of glas and random debris flying around in non-healthy directions.

My friend lives about 7.5 km away (said 6.5km earlier ITT, but he says 7.5km here) and poo poo was flying in his kitchen. I can't imagine how it was for the nearest residential buildings to that port. He did an interview with a Montreal radio station this morning here telling his story: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/962-...LUbNrXkDW9VdNdw
