lol there was an article the other day about how UI was doing the best job because they tested students twice a week https://fortune.com/2020/08/29/covid-testing-university-of-illinois-saliva-test-coronavirus-students-twice-weekly/ I mean i guess the regular testing is still a good thing because it might’ve alerted them to the outbreak quickly but the school should’ve been remote in the first place because dumb students are gonna act like dumb students

mod sassinator posted:and this is ALL nonsense anyways since reinfection is real and more than likely confirms no vaccine can work, period. at best this is going to be a "prick your arm and get a couple months slight resistance to infection like the flu shot". it will never be a "prick your arm and live your life, you can never get sick!" vaccine period. This is scare mongering. Most vaccines never confer total immunity to an infection. If the vaccine just makes it so that people don't get as sick and lowers the amount you spread to others, then it would be a big win. Total sterilising immunity is a pipe dream that the public thinks is the aim, but it just isn't likely possible, or even being hoped for by the researchers.

Had a coworker do the whole nose outside of the mask thing today. Computer touchers have no excuse. I don't like it but understand when the facilities people do it as they're moving around and exerting themselves all day. Made me feel especially good given the recent reports of irreparable heart damage even in mild cases. I've cracked and am wondering about getting a powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR). Does anyone have any idea if there's a low cost option? The 3M site doesn't list prices, which is not a good sign. I'm seeing sets on ebay for >$1000, which is way out of the question. To be clear this would be in addition to a surgical mask. Alternatively I could follow the lead of this clearly insane person and try to build my own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS6GA83nbds
